    I don't like the tone of this video. Its not fictitious but its very one-sided. "Arnold was just naturally muscular as a teen" BS, he didn't pop out like that. He got there from working out hard as hell day in and day out. You can see his bodybuilding story on youtube.
    I don't doubt there are genetic differences, but this video is basically supporting people who think they're just "hard gainers" when really they're not eating enough or hitting the gym as hard.

Don't let this video or genetics stop you because even if you're naturally thin or fat looking like a model is possible AND realistic for normal people. I follow a program called Athlean X. I am not a sponsor for the program but it puts the science back in training and the coach is a very reputable trainer. 10/10 highly recommend!

      Funny how you say it puts the science back in training, yet the program never ever mentions diet. The science behind getting any great gains relies entirely on good diet. A extreme example of this is if you train under the best coach, but eat hardly anything, you won't gain muscle.
      A great bulking diet incorporates the perfect macro nutrients for you will enable you to gain muscle while minimizing fat gains.

    Need to make a point clear though. ASAP says Arnold looks ''naturally muscular'' on the picture at 1:35. Like in the way that he got that muscle because of his genes and witouth working out. If you watch some of his documentaries, this picture comes along multiple time and he has been working out and lifting weights for years prior to that picture.
    The thing is. Genetics play a role, an important role in building muscle and getting good physique. But i feel like everyone can get an impressive physique regardless of genetics. People simply blaim their lack of succes by telling others and more importantly themselves that they have their genetics to blaim, basically to protect their ego so they don't feel bad about sitting on the couch all day and watching tv while hammering away tons of junkfood.

      2) When you don't take steroids/ any sort of drug to get bigger.

      tyvonable The nervous system is responsible for the activation and contraction of muscle. Not all of a muscle contracts when you perform an exercise. Only about 30% of muscle fibers for any skeletal muscle are contracted at a time during an exercise. if you have a more extensive nervous system it will stimulate more muscle contraction, resulting in you being able to lift and move greater loads, without there being a need to increase muscle mass.

    Myostatin is needed to regulate muscle growth. As cells divide, their telomere ends shorten, which contributes to aging.
    If you go to the gym, the individual muscle cells is get larger. You don't actually need more muscle cells, just bigger ones.

      Your chest should graze or nearly touch the ground on a proper push up, but push ups are not for bicep training (you sure they weren't talking your pectorals?). To get bigger biceps, you should do curls, chin ups, get plenty of protein, and eat at a 200-500 calorie daily surplus.

My strength doesn't seem to dissipate much at all even with illness forced inactivity. . . hmmm, I really should look more into the science of this, I always felt like some sort of freak of nature because of it but if there's a scientific explanation behind it then it could lend much to my understanding of my own physiological state. Reminds me of the whole "hysterical strength" thing. In which we supposedly only use a fraction of our muscles maximum power because anymore would result in body damage. For instance, those claims of people breaking handcuffs while on meth, also breaking their wrists in the process. Or those mothers who partially lift a car to save their children trapped beneath. It's said that we only use 20% of our full power, only going a little beyond during adrenaline rushes. But that's related to hardwired inibitory mecanisms in your muscle nerves, which is different from the video.
    These mecanisms can be partly overidden through training. In other words, more strength is not just creating more muscle, it's also training your muscles to pack more power per fiber, which happens naturally with work outs, but it's impossible to reach 100%, you would lift a ton, but then your bones and muscles employed would be torn to pieces in a second.

    • @84ND3R5N4TCH
      @84ND3R5N4TCH 9 лет назад

      That's related to adrenalins, neuromuscular adaptation and perceived fatigue. We are stronger than our nervous system will let us be.

    • @gcircle
      @gcircle 9 лет назад

      Phaneron Yep. We are stronger, but not durable enough to withstand that power for very long

    • @84ND3R5N4TCH
      @84ND3R5N4TCH 9 лет назад

      gcircle Our bodies are able to withstand it; it's just not metabolically efficient. If we operated at that level constantly, our metabolisms would be incredibly fast and we'd need to eat many, many times more food to sustain our bodies.

    • @gcircle
      @gcircle 9 лет назад

      While the metabolism part is true for gorilas and such that are much stronger and durable than us, no, our bodies can't quite withstand it, not for more than a couple seconds. That anecdotal evidence of breaking handcuffs and such? Those who did that usually had their wrists bones fractured, and the arm muscles torn, simply because body tissues are not rigged to withstand that much force. There's a reason those inibitory mechanisms exist in the first place, we would hurt ourselves extremely easily if we had free reign over our muscles.

    • @84ND3R5N4TCH
      @84ND3R5N4TCH 9 лет назад

      gcircle Many gymnasts have enormously high levels of neuromusuclar adaptation and don't tear their arms off when performing a Maltese. Strongmen often break multiple handcuffs with their wrists without injury. It's possible to injure yourself, but you certainly wouldn't sever anything important.

  • @Beauolivier
    @Beauolivier 9 лет назад +3

    The gene is actually called the MSTN gene, and GDF-8 or Growth Differentiation Factor 8 is another name for the protein Myostatin. Also, myostatin is also expressed (at low levels) in the heart to prevent hypertrophy of the heart. Conversely, an increased concentration of myostatin is found in patients with heart failure or dilated cardiomyopathy (a weakened, enlarged heart). What this all means, is that blocking myostatin could be beneficial for people with heart disease, but there is a possibility it leads to heart disease in healthy people. Our genome contains the MSTN gene for a reason and it's tightly regulated, so don't mess with it.

    • @r.b.4611
      @r.b.4611 7 лет назад +1

      R. Robin Not quite. Pullups require almost nothing from your legs. Pushups require constant activation from the biceps.
      See, because the biceps are triceps work in a very simple manner, 1 opposes the other, In every position except completely flexed or extended, both muscles are activated.
      See if you just contract your bicep with no tricep action then your arm would completely flex, straight away, it's the fact that both muscles contract simultaneously that allow you to freeze your arm at any point in flexion!
      So if you go halfway down in a pushup and freeze, your biceps have to activate too, but now that I'm considering what you said, it's definitely more exertion on the triceps, no doubt, because gravity takes up the role that the contraction of the biceps would normally play. That being said the biceps will still fire.

    This video begs the question as to how myostatin is regulated in the first place. Is it possible, though working out, to signal to your brain that less myo is needed? Could that change the regulation of myostatin? Myostatin might be the limiter of how much muscle is possible given a certain context, but given enough time and workout, I wonder if that would push myostatin levels down the same way you can change the regulation of your heart rate by exercising? Just some thoughts to pique further inquiry.

    Does myostatin stop ur muscle growth or does it make it harder for muscle growth?

    The problem with having a myostatin deficiency or lack thereof is that, sure your muscles may grow and be huge, but your tendons can't keep up, and are more prone to tear. So unless they find a way to also increase the tensile strength of tendons, any myostatin inhibiting drugs could be quite harmful.

    I feel this video was thin on the ground for info, I found myself wanting for a more complete picture. Also, it felt like an advert by the end.

    ok this video clears up why some people bulk up quickly, but can you make a video that explains why we even bulk up in the first place

    I have unusually high testosterone me my dad and my uncle all have this happen when we work out with weights, we get stretch mark but once we stop lifting the stretch marks stop. I assume its because we are growing muscle more rapidly than the average man. How does myostatin effect us.

    Dude, this is good for anyone who wants to do it.. The only down side wold be is if it permanently mixed in with your genetics code, and then it turns out we need that myostatinisland stuff or what not
