Yep. You've definitely nailed the red. Epic result overall, and very striking. I particularly like how the "feathering" of the black oil wash has created lovely smooth transitions.
Scale modellers love that feathering of the oil wash too. Also good to note that you did not gloss varnish the model before the oil wash. That way the oil stains the armour a little more (because of the matt-satin finish grips unto the oil) and adds to the weathering.
That tip on pre shading with white is great I normally just do a top down zenithal but I think this will really help make the red on my flesh tearers pop. Yes I’m a ft player for my very first marine they’re my hands down favorite chapter.
I share your enthusiasm for finding specific colour recipes. I have painted a Angels Encarmine recently and did no know that the new transfers had successor chapters on them. Would have prefered black wings instead of white, but still very cool!
Beautiful red. I get a similar look on the right pauldron of all my Salamanders - basecoat rhinox hide - stipple up Burnt Red - highlight in the same GW red - mix in orange for peak highlight It's a beautiful result. I find the rhinox hide provides the perfect earthy base
Returning to the hobby after 25 years away and brand new to your channel. Absolutely love the videos, delivery and videography is superb, no nonsense and none of the cringeworthy “WhEn yOu SeE tHiS YoU WILL nEVER UsE NuLN OiL AgAIN 😱” shite that is so common. I appreciate it, cheers.
If you care to invest the time the best way I’ve found for making decals conform to complex armor panels is. 1 heavy coat of gloss varnish, warm water decal etc, micro set the area, microsol the decal a couple times, 1 more heavy coat of gloss varnish to even out the layers, then a light of coat of ultra matt, matt, or satin varnish whichever you prefer for the finish. Its a lot of steps for one model especially if its not really necessary for like one space marine but its really easy to set one boring painting session aside to do it all in batch painting. Gloss varnish all your models, then apply all your decals, then go through with your microsol, then go back through with gloss varnish, then your finishing varnish. Makes a lot more sense for batch painting especially since adding a lot of gloss varnish really takes a lot of the guess work out of applying decals so you can turn your brain off.
Always loved the flesh tearers, idk how I've never painted one. I'll give it a go with this scheme. Chainswords should always have hazard stripes in my eyes though haha
Awesome video thank you. I'll try adapt this red for my blood angels. I'm wondering if I can achieve a similar red with a mixture of AP Slaughter Red and Murder Scene. I'm a beginner and don't have an airbrush
I don't use Army Painter paints so im not sure of those colours. But im sure you can create something great. The oil and chipping stage will add a lot to the look.
Truly lovely red! Really /bloody/. All this process of finding that color (would love to see a comparison with testers!) reminds me of my misson to find a perfect brownish red for me. For now I have settled on Red Primer Base from Hataka, color is great, but it's too glossy for my liking. Have you accually tried Hataka paints I wonder? Don't recall you ever mentioning them though you use lot of different paint brands
Henry, I see you're using Vallejo gloss varnish before decals - when I try it, the water from the decal application causes the varnish to peel off of the surface. Have you had that happen?
I chose flesh tearers as my first full 40K a couple of years ago, mainly for the colour scheme. Enjoyed getting better at painting since then and I’m Hyped to try this method! Great work, thanks for sharing
The Flesh Tearers. The chapter that seems to always be about one bad week away from becoming a Khornate warband. I love these guys. The dark red and black combined with their attitude of ripping and tearing everything is just so much fun to convey. Nailed it on this one too. Love that red.
I’m so glad all my favorite painters are making flesh tearer content. We must save Seth’s chapter
that mega chainsword is peak 40k, I love it. Great job as always, Henry.

A cocktail stick for the white dot on the lenses. Brilliant Idea Henry! Thank you.
i think a pin might be a little better.
Dum Dum-Dum DUM! Never change the background music, I love it so much
You nailed the red, I kept looking for a scheme that had the red how I saw it in my head

Hell yes! My favourite chapter by far.
you hit the nail directly on the head with this one!
This is one of the best flesh tearer schemes I've seen. Really great stuff
@@jonathanparker4559 thanks!
Looks amazing, as always. Glad to see new decals coming! Always happy to see more Blood Angels or their cousins 😊

The red is beautiful

Man both eons of battle and now you doing flesh tearers! Got me tempted...
Great video Henry. Also it’s endearing you still feel it necessary to explain Tamiya flat white, we all know it very well thanks to your videos 😂❤
Finally, MY chapter! Thanks Henry.
Ordered the Blood Angels army box but couldn't decide on how I wanted to paint them. I think you just sold me on Flesh Tearers. Great work as always!

Oh I wanna see that necromunda video. You should post more previews there, makes it tempting to join the Patreon

Red looks reaaally delicious. Very tempted…
Beautiful red.. but so sad I have to buy more paints to achieve this scheme 😢. Awesome video as always!
Phenomenal job, looks amazing
Stunning as always
Looks fantastic 👍
Beautiful painting 💖💖
I would love to see a scheme for the Angels Vermilion. Like a dark muted candy red or something. However best you'd think to do vermilion though.
Stunning paint job
Thanks!
white dots make me so nervous that I was tensing just looking at it ^^
Lovely job!
Great tutorial Henry
thanks mate
Great video as always! I think I might adapt parts of this for a Horus Heresy Word Bearers scheme
That did cross my mind whilst doing them....
Great job as usual 🤘🏻
Looks good.
Can't wait!
Another great cult of paint video, that's all there is to say!

Amazing as usual. Any recommandation for a similar red instead of this proacryl burnt red ? ^^
our one, but you'll have to wait a little while for that!! You could probably achieve something close ish with Khorne red
What primer do you use? Heard a lot of complaints on vallejo PU primers. Maybe you have some secret?)
@@СергейТопорков-м3ф we use rattle can primer. GW, colourforge and automotive

ive not heard of them
Slaughter red from army painter goes on quite similarly to this
I've always wondered how you clean your airbrush after using the tamiya paints? I find they aren't easy to remove as other paints.
Couple drops of isopropyl alcohol and clean, then airbrush cleaner and clean, then water and clean.

@@ndperseo7136 yes, if it's not properly dry. I find an hour then a quick hairdryer is plenty.
I kind of want to see all the testers
there's one poor marine who must have 100+ layers of paint on him
Any chance of seeing a Lamenters piece from you guys?
Yes, it will be part of the Badab series.
Hell yeah

in the past with many of your red schemes, you've started with the brightest red and worked down; any reason you didn't here?
@@stephengleason3487 I just didn't need to with this scheme.

wonder why the edge highlight is sooo little
Am I the only heretic who thinks this red would work perfectly for 30K Word Bearers?
@@mrmako66 oh no
Hmm, so not just a Flesh Tearer's Red contrast over a zenithal? Too obvious I suppose?
Completely wrong colour scheme. Should be painted exactly like Ultramarines
