The number one mistake people do when reacting to this is comparing it to all other problems on earth. Why Mars is exciting, is because it's uncharted territory where human ingenuity gets to flourish. There's very few rules. No institutions hundred of years old telling you what you can't do. Things move very slowly on earth. Because we are here already. Our problems have been identified since a long time ago. Yet we are fantastically bad at solving them. Usually because there's always someone benefitting from the problems existing and we're awful at helping said people move on to a different occupation or move them physically to a different location. If you feel space takes up too much time and attention, think about the problems you yourself think are more important. Then how long we've been trying to solve them. The answer will be decades. Multiple different politicians, parties and an insane amount of broken promises. Space exploration generates far more progress in a shorter period of time. Some inventions have been so awesome they can't be ignored and they've made everyone's live better. Space equals humans unchained. Meanwhile, reflect on if you yourself and your lack of flexibility is part of why Earths problems never change. Maybe stop voting in the same politicians you've always voted for. Self reflection goes a long way to solve our most pressing problems.
We don't have enough resources to settle a reasonable size of population ( say 5 - 10% of earth's population) on Mars while fighting climate change here on earth. Devoting all available resources to fight climate change will have a return magnitude greater than the advantage to Mars for humanity.
Come on young man! The Simplest logical argument Is ALL THE MONEY and EFFORT WOULD BE PROPERLY USED AND BENEFITED HUMANITY ON EARTH NOW AND MANY YEARS LATER !! LIFE ON EARTH MATTER 1ST. !!
How about redirecting asteroids to hit mars to fill it with water and other important chemicals? I know nasa is working on redirecting asteroids from hitting earth how about a team up?
Do you have any idea how much energy it would take to redirect a super fast heavy asteroid. It takes years to get a probe to just meet up with one so we can study it and you think we can just fly up to a whole bunch of them, check it for water, and casually change its path so it hits Mars. This is why people follow Elon Musk, a poor understanding of physics and science.
Crazy life we living, thinking about going to Mars like its a trip to Australia 🌍 imagine 🤣 all these beautiful minds reaching for the stars. Keep going its amazing to see how adaptive we as a species can be and how determined we can be.
What is the physical /genetic criteria for the first people to settle Mars? We would want no abnormalities. Also, I am assuming all future offspring will be test tube babies and modified to some extent?
Earth was always a good place to live. It didn't ask anything of us and gave us everything. But we destroyed it in every possible way. I don't think humans should go to other plantes untill they learn to cherish earth. We don't deserve better.
I'm getting kinda tired of this "humans are awful and don't deserve better" narrative that so many people on the internet seem to have about our species. Many of us do still cherish this planet that we have; not our fault that a lot of the ultra-wealthy capitalists sitting in their ivory-tower boardrooms and parliaments have lost sight of that.
@@NowruzGurbanow that's what you think. Are you sure that the planet in itself is not an entity? Also even if humans does go to another planet do you you think it will be our turn.
For researching porpoises maybe, but for Humanity's Sake, it won't change anything. We have bigger problems on earth, that even we don't want to face, still. Why would it be any better on another planet? Humanity needs to live well and in Harmony with the planet. People now a days are so sick of each other and sometimes even them selves, why would this be diferente on another planet, please tell me. Especially on a planet that is not our home base and doesn't have the best resources for our survival and evolution as a species.
Mars is definitely a very important step, but I'm curious what makes colonizing it of higher importance than colonizing the moon, which humanity still hasn't so much as made a temporary base on. Is it because there's no way to make it self-sufficient? On second thought, please don't read the comments.

I don’t know about y’all, but the idea of the human race dying out is comforting to me. Mother Nature can reclaim herself.
I know nasa is working on redirecting asteroids from hitting earth how about a team up?
they have already found evidence of flowing liquid water on mars, and it has been known there is frozen water in the polar regions of mars
I would never go to mars. I guess im just not secure enough to guarantee myself that ill ever come back again.
Earth was also a wilderness.
Crazy life we living, thinking about going to Mars like its a trip to Australia 🌍 imagine 🤣 all these beautiful minds reaching for the stars. Keep going its amazing to see how adaptive we as a species can be and how determined we can be.
Why Mars and not the Moon??
Humanity is fucking doomed…
What is the physical /genetic criteria for the first people to settle Mars? We would want no abnormalities. Also, I am assuming all future offspring will be test tube babies and modified to some extent?
Earth was always a good place to live. It didn't ask anything of us and gave us everything. But we destroyed it in every possible way.
I don't think humans should go to other plantes untill they learn to cherish earth.
We don't deserve better.
By Earth do you mean the planet or creatures living on this planet? Cuz, planet doesn't care in whatever state it is lol.
@@liammurray2318 really. Well continue being good then. It's my prospective I don't have to justify myself, cause time will tell.
@@liammurray2318 not everything depends on rich and goverments. It's people's way of getting rid of responsibility.
Especially on a planet that is not our home base and doesn't have the best resources for our survival and evolution as a species.
how to check that it is making oxygen
You change the camera angle in this video too often and it's a distraction.
Humanity should go to the moon first, before even thinking about going to Mars
Damn, cute guy.... I don't care about Mars, I would love to see Uranus :D
I would like to definetly go to the mar's unpredictable and enormous journey of space that helpful for the next upcoming humanity. From india.🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Did... Did Musk pay for this BS video?
☺️☺️
please take all politicians to mars so that we can enjoy life in earth
Mars is definitely a very important step, but I'm curious what makes colonizing it of higher importance than colonizing the moon, which humanity still hasn't so much as made a temporary base on. Is it because there's no way to make it self-sufficient?
On second thought, please don't read the comments.
Need is the mother of invention produce the need your produce invention that’s human nature
We can't make it to the south pole for more than two hours
I watched this play out on this history documentary.. "expanse" or something. Last time we did that it went wrong. Dont let history repeat itself.
We are destroying this planet, you want to go and destroy another planet?
Uauuuuuuu 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Who are we kidding?
Mars was terraformed long ago, and can support life.
He looks like Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad
✨✨✨✨✨
Acronym within an acronym 😅
Now No one can talk CRITICS for dollars spend on every space Missions ( instead of helping people in earth ) ==> it's really all our day-to-day sophistication's are from those missions only
EARTH (i.e) PLANETS ARE LIKE ISLANDS IN THE OCEAN (i.e,) GALAXY😲😃 People of some thousands year in future will get their minds blown like how our ancestors thought of our travel far and wide btwn countries / will think of how far and wide traveling in space 😉👏
And, unsubscribing from TED, what’s next a talk on how crypto is a “smart investment.” Life is parody now, god damn it
Whoever pays for this is going to set up the rules. And people paying for this are from earth. What you are saying makes no real sense in practice.
I have no interest in spending money we should be using for people in need here on Earth to instead go to other planets and bring our trashy ways into the galaxy.
Here are the reasons you shouldn't go to mars: 1975, 1982, 1991 and 2009
*goes to listen to whitey on the moon again
I vote for all the billionaires to live the dream of migrating to Mars asap and never come back... It will help the rest of us here on Earth for sure 👍
Make Mars the new Australia, send all the crap over there
Wait, magnetic pole reversals are not dangerous
Or... you could just FIX & IMPROVE the 🌎
Nonsensical analogy to the mars fanatics: To learn how to clean MY house better, I clean somebody else's house first...
sorry i dont agree... your cayon has no blue sky... and imagine if you create for earth an not for space...???
The sound is really bad. Didn’t dare to watch your video more than 5 seconds because of that.
I'm drowning in bull sh..
Ship all the convicted murderers and child pedophiles to Mars.
the first
Sure settling Mars will help improve life on Earth, but who is going to be living on Earth and who is going to do the hard work in terraforming Mars? Like his wife said, who would want to live on Mars? Those desperate enough to venture to and live in a hostile environment like Mars. Maybe we should make sure our society on Earth is equitable before we spread this inequity plaguing our planet across the solar system?
He’s cute af.
Nooo don’t go to mars you’re attractive
Idk about this one
Bro go home, you are drunk.
I think we should improve our life on Earth, now, instead to research how to live outside the planet, before it crashes.
Im anti space travel
me too
Get back to the moon first. Who is funding this vaporware?
What about the trillions of dollar it gonna take?
