The book The Accountant's Story was written by Roberto Escobar, Pablo's brother. As the title suggests, he was in charge of the money for the family biz. But what was really amazing was what he wrote about their lives growing up. He was the athlete, with a bicycle racing team, and tried to build a biz around that; while Pablo dreamed of power and said as a child that he wanted to be President of Columbia someday.

During the late 70's, I remember many TV news channels talking about Escobar. Now, later in life, many people like myself realize just how horrible of a person he was. Even though the town is profitting off his images, I say good for them! Let them have a little fun & enjoyment off his images/likeness/history. If it keeps feeding the town, let them do that. But don't look at the people the way you would Escobar. Mos tof the population hated him just as much. But as the documentary said, many were forced to like him or they would die. The town is full of people just trying to survive now, albeit off his history.

I've always believed that Pablo's failure to legitimize himself as a member of the government was the turning point of his life.
There is a high chance that he would've transitioned into politics and focused 100% into helping the people of Colombia and left behind the drug trafficking completely.
The bosses of the Cali Cartel attempted to do the same thing as far as going legitimate.

💯. He had amazing organisation skills. I still disagree that America intervened in Columbia. America fails to handle the drug problems and there's no sane plan for the drug problems. Prisons are packed with poor people who are mentally ill, pity drug users who are sick. Addiction is criminalized and stigmatized even the methadone, suboxone programs. Addiction is not a criminal activity itself. It is a disease and it should be handled like that. Portugal is a great example. Anyway Escobar is part of the history and at the beginning he did a lot for the poor but had a very sad ending

35:15 I love how Comumbia and many in the comment section, puts the blame on addicts in America for buying drugs, instead of Columbian accepting responsibility for its own corruption. The definition of victim mentality, that's why Columbia is and will always be a poor 3rd world country.
America's could easily say "If you'd stop trying to sell it to us, then we'd have no addicts"
