On most of these "driveable", finished cars, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff like the tiny gaps and whatnot. I'd just get in and drive the dang wheels off!!!! That white Gallardo Spyder was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!

There are miles between a maco paint job and a 15,000.00 paint job. The ladder is full blowen retail, special color and definitely no friend cost. You can get a spectacular job for far less than 15 grand.
Exactly! Kind of annoying when these concours-type guys pretend there's no middle ground. Even a crappy Maaco job can be made passable with a good wetsand and polish.

Given the starting conditions for that McLaren, and the unavoidable restrictions on parts availability, I thought it was an amazingly complete job in all departments!
I have a 2009 Civic SI and I get bothered when a interior light goes out.
Rule of pi. Everything car related is usually 3.14 times more than you expect. So if a job is supposed to take a week. Its gonna be like 3. You think its gonna cost $250, its mostlikely gonna be $750.
Dude coming from a body shop owner who basically only does salvage title and wrecked car work, these prices are insane. I don’t think I’ve ever charged someone more than 5500 for a full paint job and I’m talking full glass and body panel removal.

If youre in the auto industry he should be pointing out more indepth analysis about the repair.
Instead he seems to throw labor hrs as an excuse

Did you hear how much the parts portion of the repairs are? If a brake rotor set is 11k from the manufacturer and a aluminum quarter replacement is 11k roughly who’s wrong? The manufacturers charging for a high end part or a skilled technician for there labor and knowledge 🤷🏼♂️
That's what I was thinking. I'm not a pro but I think my paint jobs look 8/10 and I have never charged someone more than 3k

I don’t think so. You can spend $100 and have a decent watch. You can also spend $100,000 on a Rolex. The guy works on Ferraris, and had to weld aluminum’s sheet metal. He doesn’t do Casio calculator watch work.

Tavarish, love your channel and have been watching since you fixed the white Lamborghini in your garage. Having said that, these type of videos are not appealing. I want to see you wrenching on the vehicles, not just talking about them. We all know there's alot of work to do and a pro shop would charge alot. That's the reason I like watching you because you do it yourself! You've got plenty of cars to finish and have content with. Just do that!
90 hours for a quarter panel? Seems a little excessive if we are being honest
We all say that, till you actually do it. Learned that the hard way working on a friend's Cobra Replica. Body shop quoted 30 hours (steel panel, front quarter), we politely disagreed.
Ended up investing 76 manhours and i became real intimate with that piece of metal. And Josef and I aren't complete amateurs.
Wait till you see all the sub-structures that are under a quarter panel in a modern car. And if it's aluminum it's a whole other set of tools and skills that takes more time.
@@Ferrariferg They are talking only about "skin" of the quaatter panel so in that case its 2-3 days of work not 90hr. But hey - its a youtube video and thumbnail says he wasnt prepared for this so "expert" needs to deliver. Inn the end he will say that it is better to do it yourself and that is why "you need to wrench everyday" and all is aagain good in the world..
Does that cost include fixing the convertible top on the Lambo? When did Jack weld the front end on the Ferrari? Did i miss a video? 🤔

Wow. Here in Silicon Valley, because the land prices are so high, shop labor of $90 to $150/hour is about what my corner garage charges for changing headlight bulbs and fixing brakes!

Yeah but this guy would tell you it's 50hrs to replace a headlight. Just a heads up that ANY mechanic or body shop says they need to "take off and reinstall completely 10 times" is scamming you or doesn't know what the hell they are doing
@@anthonylong5870 you could be correct except with supercars you just want to multiply on checks, perhaps you are satisfied on a regular 911 or something but in McLaren ranges perfection is no-brainer…

A lot of the "Professionals" that work on high end cars figure the owners have money so they will juice the bill on them

Note to self, never use this dude inflated services. A quality paint job on any car should be no more than $5k, $10k-$15k is absurd. And $10k-$15k to fix the fender gap and paint it? you can just buy a stock/oem bumper for well under $5k and get a few grand back for selling the other bumper so $3k max spent.

The piles of parts, tools, junk and general disorganization inside and outside of your once beautiful shop makes my brain want to explode. Not to mention any cars or parts individually, but maybe start there and get rid of some crap so you can actually focus on the important stuff, like the cars important to channel success...?

Tavarishes hair is back!
Unfortunately many real body shops have been put out of business by the cheap respray shops. The reality is not many are ready to pay what a quality shop does anymore. I did a 3 stage Pearl paint job on my Chevy LUV. It had zero rust, minimal dings and still paid 10K. The clear alone was about 1K. This was 14 years ago. The truck looks exactly as it did then as it looks now. The shop tried to steer me away from the Pearl. I was warned if it is hit matching is next to impossible
Not everybody has10k aside to paint his daily. I own a VW Polo which i payed 12k for 9 yrs ago. Last year the trunk lid was rusting from the inside out at the VW-logo. That looked horrible and I wanted it to be sorted. But not for that ammount of money. They have just repainted the trunk lid itsself and I cant notice any deviation from the origirnal paint. Sure its just a Polo and not a valuable collectors car but thats exactly what you need a good but cheap bodywork shop for. There always is a way in between "Do it as cheap as possible" and "Make it absolutely perfect no matter what it costs"

these prices are way out of line, there is no way it's going to cost $10k to fix that Benz when all the parts are being supplied. A little body work and then a regular paint job shouldn't be more than $5k maximum.
And Lexus paint job is definitely not a $15K job, even with taking parts out
