  • Diesel-electric and electric locomotives take advantage of the traction motor's ability to act as a generator to enable a form of braking power which, without the use of air or vacuum can be used as a speed controlling brake on grades or a slowing brake on level track. This is called dynamic braking.

    Nice, short and crisp but detailed video! The quality of your work is visible everywhere, from the shortest videos to the longest!

    No, actually traction motor don't use p magnet, so the electricity is fed to stator which induces electricity to ameture which is fed to resistor grid, thus by adding resistance to motor which is equivalent to adding load to a generator without a constant external power like Diesel engine or any other source of kinetic energy, now once the load is added, the stored mechanical energy (kinetic+potential) gets disapated as heat

    Another nomenclature for this is regenerative braking system by which generated electricity is fed into grid and used by other electric locomotive with in the-nearby overhead traction circuit

      Yes… that is the case with electric locomotives. But in the case of diesel-electrics, the generated electricity cannot be fed back to the grid (as there are no pantographs). That is why it is called Dynamic braking in the case of diesel-electrics

    You could try your hand at 3D animation, since you seem pretty good at animating stuff!

    Instead of generating heat in the resistors you could store the generated elecricity
    in batteries !

      Sorry for delay in response… Some RDSO manuals have drawings. I had a copy but as I have moved to Europe, I think it may have been on a drive I left behind. My suggestion get the dimensions of the loco (u should be able to get these online) and with pictures of the loco try making your models. I m sorry I have not been much help…

      @@TheTrainStory thank you for your reply, sure will have a look at it. I have gathered few of pictures online. I will make sure to visit RDSO site too. 😊

    Mallard world fastest steam loco which he is LNER A4 class
    The city of turo.
    The big 4 railways in England
    Thomas the really useless engine the engine class is LBSCR E2 Class flaws

    What kind of motor is required to do this?

    • @TheRavisrajan
      @TheRavisrajan 10 месяцев назад +1

      Nothing motor should be capable of generating electricity by a switch. All modern day electric and diesel locomotives have this capabilities
