- This is a coal fired model live steam boiler plant fitted with a Weir type boiler feed water pump. The boiler is six inches in diameter and everything works like a dream.
Thanks Keith. Clear interesting video. I'll watch it a few times for sure. Happy steaming!
I could sit & watch Weir Pumps all day myself....
Thank you again :)
Thank you, I love the feed pump - it is so very well engineered, that's why I didn't want to paint it ....
As an ERA in the RCN our boiler room on DDE's had a Weir pump and it was LARGE with piston skirts that would come down and chop your arm off if you were foolish enough to stick your hand in there with an oil can. It would cycle intermittently as required to maintain boiler level, so one never knew when it was going to cycle so one gave it leave to do what it did without any needless interference.
Wonderful video! Your narration is spot on, especially on the subject of steam engines. You can hear a kind of reverence, and even a romantic tone for the engineering and workmanship in your voice. I had to laugh when you said, "if the weather ever gets good". Is that something one might often hear in Britain? Thank you for sharing!
Just beautiful.
As well as everything else, I love your workbench! :)
Thanks for your kind comment - The weather in the UK has been very poor for the last couple of years - last Summer was the wettest on record apparently - and as I write this - it is raining - just as I finished spraying a model boiler outside - ! :-))
Words like 'sum' and 'lump' go together very well, (like 'beer' and 'garden')! I fancy one of those Station Road Steam 'Feldbahn' locos out of my lump sum in due course. What capacity Weir Pump would I be needing to replace one of the injectors?
that depends on what number of injector you are using.
Hi Keith, I'm looking for a coal fired boiler like the one in this video could you direct me to a person or company who produce them? Thank you in advance.
+Norfolk Model Steam I can't help you with that, this one I have is a one off in 1/4 thick stainless steel which apparently is not allowed in the UK .... ces't la vie . . .
