    I have a coat that has a pocket positioned practically on the back of my thigh. It is so shallow my phone falls out ALL the time and I have to dislocate my shoulder to reach it. What brain designs that? Whenever you feel like starting the pocket sufragette revolution, I'm ready to storm the barricades with ya. ❤x

    You learning to knit would be a fun thing to see! I'm an avid knitter and it can be very peaceful and soothing with its repetitive movements! It's especially great for me since I have adhd and it requires both hands, keeps my brain occupied.
    It's a bit confusing to learn at first but if you have a pair of needles, some yarn and a lot of patience with a dash of stubbornness, anything is possible! 😅❤

    the ultimate jargo pants...

  • @bunhelsingslegacy3549
    @bunhelsingslegacy3549 3 месяца назад +1

    Nice job! I haven't made pants yet but mostly because many of the (men's, of course) cargo pants I found in the early aughts and bought a dozen pairs of, still fit and are still holding together (barely, many colourful patches). I have two pairs that hang by the door, one with garden loadout and one with work loadout, the work loadout pair weighs probably 10 lbs/4.5 kg cause I've got a multitude of tools in the pocketses and keys for six buildings on the belt loops. Today in addition to my usual loadout of knife, first aid kit, phone, marker, plant tags and scissors, I also had two 700 ml water bottles.
    And yeah, I literally leave a heap of stuff in a pile on the floor under where my pants hang when they go to the laundry...
    One thing I have had to do with some pairs of cargo pants is shorten the lower thigh pockets because either it strains and starts tearing the surrounding fabric when I've got something blocky like my phone in it, or becuase having heavy things too low when I'm doing active things has given me some rather spectacular bruises on and about my knees. So I do know where I want pocketses to be placed when I do eventually crack and make my own (the manufacturer no longer exists, which is a shame because those are the only pants with reasonable pockets I've ever found that comfortably fit my dad-bod-with-boobs body shape... and once they start disintegrating beyond being able to patch them back together, I'll be taking one pair apart to trace for a pattern.

    • @ashbentley
      @ashbentley  3 месяца назад

      4.5kg! Wearing your work pants would be a proper work out! It felt like trying to walk through water wearing just the jeans with nothing in the pockets. Not having pockets on the knees is sooo important. That's so great that have the pants to make a good pattern from too. Best of luck with it!

      @@ashbentley I don't really have hips to speak of and whatever I do has to be comfortable in the car, if I have anything that requires fiddling between home and work, it's gonna get left out and everything goes in the pocketses. This works well enough for now, though if I have to replace my screwdriver wtih a heavier set I may have to reconsider! I just need to make a few waist darts when the pants stretch too much, or add a little elastic panel or something...

    I LAUGHED SO HARD AT THE SCREAM SNEEZE my husband does that all the time and it scares the hell out of me EVERY TIME. Also crochet is way better than knitting. (That is a completely unsubstantiated claim, but if you ask anyone who has tried to learn both, they will almost always say that the first one they learned is better, easier, faster, and more fun.) So yeah. Crochet is best. :)
    Also I love your videos, your projects, your sense of humor, your dog, and your tenacity. OH AND YOUR HAIR. All of you, really, you're amazing.

    Too bad you're too young to remember '90s Jenko Jeans. One school friend shoved three different textbooks with notebooks in his back pockets and still had more space to use on the front. Girly Jenkos were lighter on the pocket space, but still bigger than Walmart brands.

    This is so cool it looks so badass!! And I really enjoyed this video, I love how it just radiates adhd lol. I've made garments in the past and am trying to learn more, but sometimes I get kinda demotivated when watching sewing videos cause I feel like I could never be that skilled. So watching stuff like this is comforting because even though I definitely don't yet have the skills for this either, it's nice to know that other people are also just messing around and not knowing what they're doing and making mistakes and getting frustrated. This is honestly making me excited about sewing again because just the f around and find out creative process is the most fun for me. I will now be binging a bunch of your videos, I'm so glad I found your channel!!

    • @ashbentley
      @ashbentley  29 дней назад

      Thank you so much! I know what you mean about getting demotivated, I find that particularly when someone is also very aesthetic. I'd much rather people see me make stuff and think 'I could do that'. And so that you know, I don't even include all my mistakes usually because there just isn't time 😂 So yes, please just give it a go, I'm so happy to hear you're excited about sewing again! 🤗

    I got really, REALLY annoyed (one could say angry) once after finding a pair of cool-looking leggings that seemingly had two nice zipped pockets... THEY WERE FAKE. Someone had gone through the trouble of sewing those zips with a piece of fabric at the back to make them into FAKE POCKETS. I even took photos to show a couple of seamstress friends because it was so absurd. That was at the end of last year, I'm still very much fuming about it 😅🤣😅🤣
    That said, these pants are really cute. Well done!

    • @ashbentley
      @ashbentley  2 месяца назад +1

      I've seen this! The EFFORT it takes to put a zipper in! And that they go and just cover it with a bit of fabric instead of doing the last step to make it a pocket is bonkers. Why do they mock us so.
      Also thank you 😊

    Love watching your videos. You should definitely learn to knit….especially all those super chunky jumpers that use multiple yarns….and I have a heap of labels if you have a P.O. Box that I can send them to….or will be in Melbourne in two weeks so could drop them off?

      I'd love to make a super chunky jumper! I have a bunch of good quality wool yarns but they're all different, I'm hoping I can make them all in to one jumper somehow (not sure if it's possible). I would love some patches if you have some you can spare and have the time to send them! I have a PO Box so that would be perfect ❤ Its PO Box 5047 Laburnum, VIC, 3130. Thank you so much!!!

    Love them. I also hate the lack of pockets on women's clothes. My pet peeve is the lack of inside pockets on jackets and coats. I've been knitting for 50 years (I learned when I was 7) and I have been crocheting for about 20 years. I like crochet because it's fast. But knitting makes more sophisticated garments.
    Love the slipper idea. Also something I always wanted to try. And crocheting moccasins using flip flops as the base.

    • @ashbentley
      @ashbentley  2 месяца назад

      Why don't we get inside pockets?? It's makes no sense. That's really good to know about the differences between knitting and crochet! I think I like the finished look of knitted garments more, but I also saw a cardigan with crocheted rats on it, so I think there are definitely merits to both.
      Flip flops as the base is a great idea!

    I do have a pair of dungarees which I love so much but they are super wide legged and at some point I may look into how to reduce this. I was just going to stitch up the leg and call it done 😂

    • @ashbentley
      @ashbentley  3 месяца назад +1

      I'm actually not sure that you do need to change the thread, it was more of a money saving thing because the top stitching thread was $7 for a spool and that only had 30 meters on it. But you should definitely have a go at adjusting your dungarees! I was actually having heaps of fun just trying out different alterations and seeing what it did to the fit of the pants 🙂

    • @LonelyBlackButterfly

      They do but the pockets are too small/too fashion and not practical. I just looked on the iconic and the pants were $70-$200 there, with only two extra pockets and what looked like polyester fabrics that would rip easily or fall off it you put anything of substance in them.
