Well, I'm 2 years younger than you and I support the second amendment as well. BUT I support it as it was INTENDED. My 6th great grandfather served in the Continental Congress. The ONLY purpose of 2A was twofold. 1) To form a well regulated citizen militia and take up and bear arms in the event of an attempted takeover of our government by our own army. 2) For said militia to take up and bear arms against an invading foreign foe until the army could be mobilized and go to where it was needed. We know this because of the Federalist Papers as well as the writings of the framers which still survive, my 6th great grandfather's included. Every single court decision regarding 2A considered the Federalist Papers when ruling on 2A until last year when SCOTUS threw out 150 years of precedent and did not even consider the Federalist Papers and in a political instead of constitutional decision declared that every nut job in the country has a right to walk around carrying a concealed gun.
MY father, who is a World War II and Korean War vet was dead set against guns. He taught ME that going after bad guys is the job of the police, not posses, vigilante groups or individual citizens. As a retired-officer, I truly admire the courage and concerted effort demonstrated by all of those from the involved departments to bring this chaotic rampage to an end. Kudos to the often-forgotten parties, those being the dispatchers, who hold themselves together, maintain calm and clarity, and seek and provide critical and timely information to the officers, et al, who responded to this event. Bless them for their contribution. Too often, they go unrecognized for demonstrating the devotion and professionalism they do. Kudos, as well, to Sheriff Nocco who publicly acknowledged them. This was a nightmare-scenario and it is a miracle that no responders were injured. And, all of those involved return to duty, almost immediately. VOTE YES!! to fund our police!

It's about time someone put that bastard six feet under, apparently the judicial system just slapped him on the wrist over the years. Come on Nocco, most of these LEO's are ex Marines and Army combat vets, it's not like they haven't been in gun battles before, they were jacked, NOT traumatized.
