Permaculture Swale Fail

  • We have been putting in 800-foot of swale for the last 3-years. Today was day 3 of a steady rain that filled the swale and showed a few failure points due to me walking on the swale and packing it down.

    three days of rain! your swale is holding up, and catching a lot of water. looked good to me!

    Ive made entire gardens on my property only to learn its a once every 5 year floodzone we learn the land as nature comes at us over time.

    This is a perfect demonstration of why an on contour swale is actually a high maintenance structure: so many potential points of failure. Another huge one in some regions: burrowing animals

      So far I’ve lucked out on the animal front. If I could just keep “me” off the swales, I’d be doing ok. :)
