Awesome to see the variety all messily mixed together making such abundance and health… it’s what my friend and I did at the farm garden he had… people couldn’t understand how so much was produced and how amazingly delicious it was because they thought all the weeds aught to be removed.
The weeds, some edible, some annoying, all attracted many different insects and birds, balancing out the whole so that we had no worry about pest damage.
We also learned two tricks about organic corn… first peg a six inch high string to mark the rows for planting and only remove it when the corn is growing at the string height… the crows leave the seedlings under the strings totally alone. And spray the tasseling corn with a light mix of mouth wash in water to mask the corn silk scent.
Corn silk, by the way, is good to keep and use in tea to nurture the organs of the body along with barley water. Boil a handful of organic pearl barley for 40 minutes in a big pot of water and throw in a handful of the corn silk to steep when the pot is taken off the fire. Drink one cup a day.

Very nice to see a european project. Rare to see, it will be very interesting if you review it again after a few years.
I love the kitchen garden. I have always wondered how a more permaculture oriented home garden could look and that is actually very inspiring. But since many crops are annuals I suppose it also comes with quite a lot of upkeep

Nekem ég a pofám. Erről fognak most megítélni minket.

Én szívesen megnézném, szerintem mások is.

Tehát én is átállok erre a politikára. Aztán majd egyszer csinosítunk.

Very promising project! Please give some numbers if you can. For example how much compost from the chicken bedding, in what timeframe, and how many people managing the chickens, and how many chickens, and how much meat and eggs were harvested in that timeframe. Also the number of work hours would really help to get a better feel of the resources needed.
    Thanks!

very interesting, as we live in Taganrog on flat site with similar temperate-continental climate and strong winds, especially in the autumn and spring, And summer is very dry and hot (till +42 deg of Celsius), while autumn and spring can be too wet. Winters can be warm and without snow at all(till -10), and can be too snowy cold, -30deg of Celsius with wind in extreme days. Sometime we have ice rain, when all outdoor surfaces covered by cork of ice. So very hard to plan some project really permanent and edible. Would be good if Geoff review such conditions.

I think permaculture will be really important for Hungary and nearby countries in the coming decades, as current climate predictions are showing a drying trend for that part of Europe, and so the rainfed row crops typical of the region are going to be increasingly difficult to sustain. Mass irrigation with fossil water is of course a dead end, so permaculture will be the way to go.

  • @stevensibbet5869

I have always wondered how permaculture could be applied to temperate wet countries of the world like the UK or Hungary. The need is the opposite to Jordan or Australia, you need to drain the land not charge the land with water?
