At 49, over the past 3 years I have brought my 5km time down from 21:00 to 17:49 through consistent training. Intervals Monday/Thursday and a long run Saturday (20-27km). Slow easy other days. 2 rest days per 4 week cycle both on the same week. Focus has been 1500m (4:40) and half marathon (1:21:59). Just started training for my first marathon in April 24, so mileage is now going up. Really fun watching the times improve. Needless to say, I get to listen to a few podcasts!! Thanks Harry!

I'm currently a slave to my Garmin Half Marathon training plan. All the thinking is taken out of it and i mostly do as I'm told, or shuffle the runs to fit into my work calendar as required. I have to rely on the discipline of following it, rather than motivated to do it.

Consistency has certainly helped me this year. I try and stick to regular days each week and schedule 1 hard session each week with the rest being easy/moderate efforts. It definitely helps! As a result I have clocked 186 runs so far this year, so an average of one every other day. Resolutuon for 2024, throw in some S&C! Thanks Harry, great advice!

Love this video Harry! I like the idea of planning a week ahead because quite often when I start an 8-12 week plan I give up the moment I don’t quite ace a session (usually in the first two weeks!). I’d love to see more about how you structure your week and what sessions you incorporate, especially when building toward a particular distance goal. And how you incorporate parkrun - I often find that I struggle to adapt a plan to that very simple Saturday morning commitment. Merry Christmas to you and yours, looking forward to Jog On in 2024!

I’m going to try this. I did a 12 week half marathon plan on the summer and it took 11 mins off my PB, it was nice having something to stick to, and it clearly helped. I’m gonna see how weekly planning goes. I do have the somewhat unrealistic plan of getting sub 25 parkrun time in 2024. We’ll see how that goes

i am also a laid back runner and tend to build my training plans toward events i'm signed up for....the downside is, when i'm not signed up for anything (like now, because it's summer here in Australia, and you're marinating in your own sweat even when sitting still) i tend to drift. but i have the 5k Improver plan and i'm committed to starting it in the new year! my goals in 2024 are a sub-30 parkrun and sub-two hour half marathon....watch this space...

Following a 3 month Garmin training plan for half marathon, love that it plans my runs based around 80/20 and adjusts mileage and intensity without me having to do the clever thinking. Knowing my plan for the next week makes it easier to stick to or move to fit around my life if needs arise. Just went and got a 10k PB of 53 mins today during one of my training runs at 151 bpm average which was unintentional but pleasant bonus.

I started 'running' about a year and a half ago. I'll be 40 in a few months. Although I am running more than I ever did, I feel like I've hit a wall. I finally cracked a 30 minute 5k last fall, but then allergies killed me. Despite medication, even simple physical activity was difficult. I tried running, and would make it about 1k before I had to stop. I've finally regained most of my fitness and I'm going to try to push myself again. Thanks for your videos, Harry. they do help keep me motivated.

    Wednesday - weights and conditioning
    Thursday - run hill reps/intervals/farlek
    Friday - rest
    Sat - rest/hiit
    Sun - long run
At least that’s the plan anyway…
Trying to find an extra day to run without it conflicting with work/family and a more holistic approach to fitness…that’s the challenge
