He was offered $7 Million, alot of money at the time, to reprise the role for the sequel. (I know that's ridiculous, considering he clearly died in the original and there's a massive list of Batman villains to choose from) He turned it down.
@@abegarfield7031 I never heard that. And it was 6 million. I never heard of the return (Unless it was a dream sequence for the fifth unmade film) but he wasn't offered for any sequel.
Damn it Critic! Now I can't unsee the comparison of Batman and Robin to the Adam West series. If you look at it through that lens, the movie is a pretty brilliant big budget Adam West tribute
To be fair, as evidenced by St. Elmo’s Fire, The Lost Boys and A Time To Kill, Joel Schumacher was actually a pretty good filmmaker. I feel like had the studio not mandated a more safe and toy-friendly duology, we would’ve gotten some pretty amazing Batman movies.
I was 12 or 13 when Batman & Robin came out - I thought it was normal. Years later I told my Mum that it was godawful and she gave me this look that pretty much said, 'oh-my-gawd-I-birthed-you...what-took-you-so-long-to-figure-THAT-out-and-are-we-sure-you-weren't-switched-at-birth?' I had no good answer.
I really saw what you were saying about stopping Dark Knight at Harvey's disfigurement and Rachel's demise. That would've been a great cliffhanger for a 2 part movie. In hindsight, it might've been either good or bad relating to Heath Ledger's death. On the good side, maybe Ledger needed that break and getting off the role early might've saved him from his mental health decline and self-destruction. On the other hand, things might've played out the same and the producers would've been left scrambling to find a replacement actor, who let's be real, probably (not definitely, but probably) wouldn't have hit the mark the same way. All in all, the movie's runtime, while long, didn't FEEL long, so I didn't have a quarrel with it. But I knew a couple others who did feel the length.
I have a soft spot for Batman Forever (and give some credit to parts of Batman & Robin, mainly the ending scene with Mr. Freeze), but I'm hoping this might mean that the part 3 of "What If Tim Burton Directed Batman & Robin?" Mark Hamill was my favorite Joker because while yes they all act insane and create chaos Hamill seems to be the one who has the most fun doing it. You’d think someone with such a hater hard on for Superman would be in instant rage mode and can put 2 and 2 together.
Hey Doug. You miss one series of Batman movies that was actual shown on the big movie screen. It was the 1943 b/w 15 part Batman serial. It's begging for you to review it. It was the first film of the DC comics character of Batman which first appeared in the #27 edition of *Detective Comics* on May 1939. You might have to buy the Betamax video version since it's old. Just pay for it on your Bat credit card.
The only redeeming quality of Batman and Robin is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze. This version of Mr. Freeze isn’t good, but in a super campy Batman universe, he fits the role perfectly. The one-liners are super corny, in a good way. His design and his suit is just as corny, but in a good way, yet again.
In retrospect, the hiring of Schumacher to make the franchise lighter is a little baffling. Flash back to 1993, and hear a studio executive say “Tim, we all liked Batman Returns, but a lot of people were put off by the dark tone. So we’re gonna let the guy who directed ‘Flatliners’ and ‘Falling Down’ take over. He knows how to make a lighthearted and fun movie.”
Actually, my favorite thing about Batman Returns is what Doug doesn’t like... The Penguin. Tim Burton stated he never thought The Penguin’s original style justified his nickname and that is why he wanted to give DeVito such a monstrous appearance, combined with what I truly believe is by far one of his most amazing performances ever... Now, I do notice a little bit of his character of Louie De Palma (from Taxi) on his performance but that is not a bad thing at all. We all expected that Jack Nicholson was going to be an incredible Joker and he obviously knocked it out of the park, but with Danny DeVito it wasn’t a safe bet. Don’t get me wrong, DeVito is not a bad actor by any means but he is not Nicholson nor Anthony Hopkins, yet his role of The Penguin simply blew me away, so much, that from that moment on I really started to become more interested about The Penguin as a character... Oh, and I also bought his Neca 1/4 scale figure because it looks so awesome.
Just gonna mention that this should've included the editorial about the Jokers best death in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. I assume that even if Doug reviews that movie in the future, he'll likely go over those 10 minutes quickly since he already dedicated a whole video to that scene. So complete movie or not, still woulda been cool to see that put in this compilation as well.
37:10 as much as Marvel has disappointed me over the past couple years, I can’t help but feel like they (mostly) nailed this with Endgame. We got a full goddamn decade to get to know Tony Stark. We got to see his entire character arc from self-obsessed billionaire technocrat to one of the greatest heroes in the MCU. When he died, I actually *felt* something about it, because I’d come to love this character so much. They gave his death meaning and dignity. They *earned* the death of Iron Man.
After watching the almost 5 hours of Batman reviews, I really hope you will now complete this with a review of the 1966 Adam West film “Batman: The Movie”

The Mayor in Batman looked a lot like the former mayor of NYC Ed Koch, who was in the public eye in the '80s.
DDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNGG!
Nearly 5 Hours of Nostalgia Critic reviewing every Batman Film ever made!
There's still the Lego batman movie
Who else misses the *-Bat Credit Card?-*
... the what?
🤔
OH! You're talking about the (REDACTED)! Got it!
No.
No
Ummmmm... No
A Bat Credit Card?!
5 hours of thoughtful discussion, but I’m just here to see him yell “A BAT CREDIT CAAAAAAAAAARD!!!!!!!”
I'm here just to say it....
A BAT CREDIT CARD!?!?
Congratulations on covering all these wacky and incredible movies, Doug.
Incredible video! Such a marathon!
8:32-The moment that most people are here for.
Only OGs remember the 5-second review of Batman & Robin. 😏
The Batman and Robin episode was what I used to show friends to introduce them to the NC back in the day. It's still funny!
I just really hope we get Hush in the new Batman movie.
He should have included his Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles review too.
Fun fact the joker was going to be in the third dark night but heath leger died before he could do the role so they decided to not put him in it
37:10 as much as Marvel has disappointed me over the past couple years, I can’t help but feel like they (mostly) nailed this with Endgame.
Just realizing how early Critic going kookoo sounds like Bette Middler
Uh, for the record, NO. Elliot Warren played the gang leader in "The Batman"--the resemblance is pretty uncanny though. And he's an actor, director, and writer. Just like Doug........
The Batman & Robin review will always be a classic.
That was awesome. You guys love seeing you both together. live long and prosper.
En Vogue with the likely still uncredited street girl roles @59:00. I believe their hit "Free Your Mind" Was used in this soundtrack (Bat 4ever) as well. "Bat boy!" should've been followed by "no you're never gonna get it!" Lol
This Bat-Package spans how long I've watched the Nostalgia Critic. Now, we need a video on the 1966 Batman show and movie.
Speaking of Inception, when are you going to review that?
It's been long enough, and Bum's pretty much a background character now.
*sees this in my recommended*
So what you’re trying to tell me is… I should watch my favorite movie again. Good idea. That movie being Batman ‘89
Bro I have WAITED for this one (though I did hope it would be by series order meaning 89 to Returns to Forever ect., with The Dark Knight Trilogy, the DCEU movies, maybe the TAS videos and THEN The Batman (though I am glad we got this video at all)
He’s reviewed every single one of them except for the 1966 Adam west movie
You know. Val Kilmer sounds a LOT like Kevin Conroy. I never noticed that.
Seeing the reviews about the movies but also the ild videos it's like experiencing some "double nostalgia".
He really needs to review the Adam West Batman movie
"I just feel like the Motivations of the NEXT film are being figured out before the motivations of THIS film!" LMAO 🤣
So F***ing True!
Of course, 'Batman & Robin' had to kick off the list/video...
I genuinely enjoy batman and Robin, one of my favorite batman films
I'm so glad I'm not the only one!
Merrily we go along, the Batman original film live action series was reviewed in reverse chronological order
THE TOM AND JERRY SOUND EFFECTS HAD ME ROLLING!!! I had to pause the video!
Micheal Keaton: Best Batman.
I don't know why, but imagining critic doing Harland Williams rocketman while adding shit from Elton John rocketman would be funny
Now I am waiting for Emperor's new groove review
He talked about for Disneycember. He said it was okay, but he loved Ezma and Kronk.
