      Thank you. The rope-to-rope transfer in this situation is more intimidating than what we did during training because of the height and in open seas, there is also gust of wind.

      I have a fear of heights too. I take a deep breath before I go down on the ropes. Fortunately, our level 3 rope access guy is very supportive and talking us through the steps we need to do, make sure we are safe. Once you are working with what ever you have to do, you focus on your work and will forget about the heights.

    Would that life jacket save you if you fell in the water?

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  Год назад

      If free falling from considerable height, the only help the life jacket can do is make it easier for the search party to recover the body. In a scenario where for some reason we have to go down to the water in controlled descent, then life vest is necessary.

      Hi. I appreciate your comments and thanks for the concern. But it is clear that you don't know what you are talking about and just speculating. The crane block is for most of the time lowered to the deck to do the MPI, except in occasional circumstances such as when it is undergoing major maintenance. The towing bridle in the video is lifted up by the towing winch. And guess what, it is still over water.

      Varies vastly.
      $30/hr to paint rollercoasters and cell towers. Had to pay for own SPRAT ($1500 for level 1, also varies). No painting experience needed, just needed certificate.
      Buddy is a rope access welder, also $30/hr. Company paid (reimbursed) for SPRAT. No rope experience required, needed 2yrs welding experience.
      I always say there's no such thing as "starting pay", it's about how well you sell yourself in the interview (for any industry). Have a skill you think is useful? Bring it up in the interview, might be worth another 50 cents, doesn't hurt to try.
      Disclaimer: Offshore is basically a different industry, I stay over land, their numbers are likely different. Worldwide you need IRATA (SPRAT is USA)
