Sir but you haven't applied paste on this while taking sounding, that's change the colour and easier way to identify the how much level in this .
We apply paste when fluid is near to colourless like water and Diesel oil....in case of dirty oil you don't need to apply the paste.

what if the tape accidentally dropped inside to the hole
To Remove it you have to make some tool with a big rod and weld a hook on top of it to pull back on top

To know the level of oil inside the tank
