1. La Poésie - Poetry; Eg: Jacques Prévert (Paroles 1946) - simple yet powerful. Good for beginners.
2. Laetitia Colombani (La Tresse 2017) - a bit more modern. Vocabulary is a bit more challenging
3. Le Petit Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Children's books but there are some outdated words. Quite a philosphical book so might be hard to follow.
4. Voltaire (Candid 1759) - Classic; satire; advanced level; syntax is harder; lots of old French used throughout.
++ Popular books like Harry Potter.
"Perseverance and regularity are key to improve."
J'adore Le Petit Prince. Je l'ai lu beaucoup de fois. Ce livre m'a vraiment aidé à apprendre le français.
I think I’ll start off with the poetry book and build my way up. Thanks so very much Alexa. Bisou bisou
Excellent Alexa!
I'm surprised how much I understood .
It's always a pleasure having you as my teacher.
Thank you for the recommendations. Love the suggestions and I look forward reading at least one before end of year.
Thank you Alexa for all your efforts to come up with all these books and recommendations. Merci beaucoup!!
I've been wanting to start reading in French. Just what I needed, thank you!
Coincidentally I just started reading Le Petit Prince this week! Thanks Alexa. I will check out your recos.
Thank you Alexa, I am a member of a French book club and have read "La Tresse" which I can recommend, as I found it so interesting.
3 Women, 3 different countries, 3 different cultures. Excellent. Isobel

Great idea to recommend these books! Building your vocab can be fun :) Bonne lecture
Such a great video! I laughed with you at "disillusionment" 😂
Love your channel. I am in the process of learning French. Have read many books written by Maurice Leblanc (translated version) when I was young, Les Aventures d’Arsène Lupin was one of them. French version of Sherlock Holmes, except he is a gentleman burglar.
There's a French magazine based out of Paris I read that goes by 'Graffiti Art Magazine', which explores Urban Contemporary Art and showcases Artists under that category from streetartists to muralists. The magazine is in Both French and English.👍🏽
Is that an online thing?
Thankyou Alexa... your videos are very helpful.. looking forward for more..merci beaucoup
What a great idea! Thank you!♡
Candide was part of my books this year I really enjoyed it
Thanks for your recommendations!
Hello Alexa! When you introduced PAROLES ,1946 by Jaques Prévert, I was struck cuz today I was learned ‘ Pour faire le protrait d’un oiseau’ of it in my French literature class.
Thank you very much 🤍
I began with the Little Prince and a dictionary. It's got all the useful words you need to learn and its philosophy. That's interesting in any language. At the end you have your most useful vocabulary learned. It can be used to learn any of the 457 languages.
Thx for the lovely video! ✨
Thanks ma. I can't wait to see you.
Excellent teacher.
Ahh, this is such a good idea and amazing for immersion.
I've been playing a video game (pokemon Violet) in French, which is interesting because you have to glean enough context to make the right decisions when playing. I've played it before in English so I know what do do for the most part, but my mind is still forced to recall what I've learned of French to progress optimally.
Bonjour et bienvenue! I love your French lessons.
I'm learning again now
J'adore !
Merçi mille fois Madame Alexa. Cette video c’etait tres utile.
I'm currently reading L'étranger as Camus is my favorite author
That's a great one! Very very good book, enjoy!
J'ai acheté le livre Paroles. I LOVE IT! MERCI ALEXA!
I'm really enjoying La Tresse, and considering using it as a teacher. I'm curious what level students or teachers are reading it at. What they read before coming to it? On the one hand the verb tenses are "easy": Little to no passé simple or fancy subjunctives, most verbs in the present. The sentence structure is also rather simple and predictable - not many subordinate clauses, mostly subject-verb-object. And the chapter length is very manageable. That being said, the vocabulary is often quite rich, and the author makes wide use of locutions and idiomatic expressions. I'd be curious to know further about students' and teachers' experiences!
Nous t'aimons beaucoup Alexa!
Huis Clos by Sartre and D'Artagnan by Dumas weren’t so terribly hard, if I recall from 50 years ago.
I’ve tried to read children's books, but these aren’t always so straight-forward and easy to understand as were the first two examples in this video. But your advice, Alexa, of one or two pages a day is realistic, encouraging and liberating.
I'd forgotten to mention the “Le Petit Nicholas” series by Jean-Jacques Sempé et René Goscinny (of Astérix fame).
reading Voltaire although in english has definitely changed my life
Tysm Alexa!
Kirikou et la sorciere is also an awesome book for beginners. Funny and very simple text.
Merci beaucoup
Great examples of all levels! I'm only familiar with Le Petit Prince et Candide but the others look good too!
They are! You should definitely try out some French poetry next, extremely beautiful and very fulfilling to understand 😁
Merci Beaucoup Alexa pour votre video
Merci beaucoup
merci
Hi Alexa. Thanks for the wonderful videos. I just thought that I would mention that, in English, the pronunciation of genre is the same as the French but the ending is also pronounced ie ZON-ra. (Probably because we stole it from the French language.)
Ann, en Australie.
Bonjour Alexa! Merci Beaucoup !
Bonjour! Merci! Très intéressant et et utile. Dans l'extrait du Voltaire comment "ç" devient "marchant longtemps" ( je crois que c'est ça ce que vous avez lu 😊)quand vous lisez en voix haute ? Merci
wow..thanks..
Dear Alexa merci I love your teaching method and have subscribed to your channel. I always wanted to learn French and now hopefully I will be able to speak French like la Parisian (is this the right way to say ) merci boku (?). Please excuse my French spelling and/or grammar
Finally! Homework! I know french is typically hand written in cursive, but can Gregg shorthand apply to french easily enough to take notes with?

If you are a beginner then start with short stories in French by Olly Richard . This book provides a summary after every chapter and english translation of important words
Apologies Alexa, but I’m having problems in finding the poetry book on Play or on iPhone? I presumed I would be able to buy it on one or the other as you said about getting an E-book reader. Would it be possible to help please me? I love the bloopers at the end of the video, brilliant 😂🤣
D'accord Alexa. Bon apres midi. J'aime les livres par Simone de Beauvoir.
Alexa é maravilhosa. Parece que adivinhou sobre o que eu estava procurando.
You are my favourite one❤️🇵🇰
Merci Alexa
J'ai acheté des livres cette année, comme Fahrenheit 451 (Ray. Bradbury), Vers Les Étoiles (Mary R Kowel) et La Servante Écarlate (Margaret Atwood).
God help us !
Try Virginie Despentes for some action .
Try Baudelaire for poetry .
Try Zola for style .
Bonjour Alexa..Je lis Tour du monde en quatre- vingt jour. Quelle est votre avis sur ce livre ?
Bonjour Alexa j'ai acheté les livres j'espère améliorer mon français merci
Where can I buy books (printed ones) but at the same time have access to the audio of that book? Nowadays is very easy to find audiobooks, but you just can download the book on your tablet or cellphone (+ the audio). What I want, is to find a place where I cab buy the printed book, and then download the audio. Do you know where can find something like that? Thank you. Merci!
what does that poem about the coffee mean?
❤
Hello there. Please make a playlist for new people. Put all the beginner videos in a playlist for new people
Are there any books written in slang french?
👌
can you recommomend more books?
You omitted 'marche longtemp' from your graphic on Candide.
Génial, merci!! Est-ce que tu pense que le livres de Jules Verne utilizent le français moderne ou très ancienne? 🇫🇷
En tant que prof de français, je peux vous dire que Jules Verne emploie un français littéraire. Plutôt moderne, mais avec beaucoup de vocabulaire spécialisé appartenant au domaine des sciences et à son époque. Ceci dit, ce n'est pas du tout un français "ancien".
@@jkorta826 Merci! :)
@@inglesbiblico De rien :)
château cassandra et les contemplations (victor hugo)
"walked a long time" is missing in the French version
Hello ..I'm Judy from Philippines and I'm moving to Quebec Canada and I'm excited to learn French.
.how does French in France differ from Quebec French ?
The written french is the same, but orally the accents are very different. There's also different common expressions.
Madame,j'ai lis les troi tombs de Les Miserables.
I’m actually comfortable reading in French. My brain just gets really confused when I hear French and I have to figure out what is being said 😫
please anyone tell me where can i get french books freely?
I can't buy the book in my country
But if you help pdf I can learn a lot
I signed in so that I can subscribe to your channel Je t'aime
I just dont get the backwards sentence structure sometimes. As in, i can read enough to understand but cannot write anything because id write words the way you would with an English sentence structure every time, dont know if its right though. Like why is it Afrique du Sud and not just Sud Afrique like in English, i dunno if im wrong or right anyway. And words changing in meaning when their accompanied by something else in front or behind them. Thats frustrating after learning their stand alone meaning only to have it change to 10 different things again.
The specific words you referenced: "marcha longtemps", were missing from the passage on the screen. Very confusing.
1. (La poésie) Jacques prevert _paroles, déjeuner du matin
2. la tresse _ laetitia colombani
3. Le petit prince _ Antoine...
4.candide _ voltaire (advanced)
AND the list în description of vidéo.
Reading Le Petit Prince 🤴 feels like Shakespeare to me right now 😂🙄
J'ai besoin de visiter la librarian.
don't forget Tin tin!
It’s not French autour
En fait, j`ai trouve Candide un peu plus facile que le petite prince...
bisou bisou
I am requesting an app of yours if you have it Alexa
I have a website which is viewable on mobile, learnfrench.com 😁
Who can give me a good free application to reed pdf and show difinition with one click
Only certain verbs use reflexive pronoun in french??
i want kiss you
French subs on RUclips are rarely accurate.... Salute translates to ça luit instead... I want to give up on learning french so bad. I mean I'm already hostage to America via social security administration, and now it's blatantly for language too
I don't like the pit Prince
ah-hemm, uh, Madame.. did you JUST [at 3:27] really say Jen-reh??? Shouldn't the word be pronounced dzhawn-ruh [genre] -- I mean, like, since YOU'RE speaking French and all???? huh.. Madame?
I'm wondering why the hell anyone wants to learn a dead language.
Bonjour merci bien s'il vous plaît votre numéro
