Honestly, this would be perfect size for a small little 1br house. Nice sized living room, kitchen and utility downstairs, with a bedroom, large master bath and storage upstairs. Plop it on a few acres with some French doors to a deck looking out the bedroom.
Just had to say, your a very rare n unique person...in a good Way..not many men with integrity left...your voice is like a smooth flowing stream...Peace🎯🤗
My Grandfather built a Gambrel to work out of while he built his house; I've always said that one day I'll build one in his honor. Never knew this style had a name. Thanks for the video, it gave me some good perspective on what's involved.
I think it's funny how you talk about your lack of artistic talent and meanwhile manage to build something so beautiful and practical. You are an artist, my friend.
Hope these videos continue. Straightforward information that demystifies single family construction costs & methods is very helpful, especially to people just starting out.
While I’ve grown to really enjoy your videos I have to disagree. U are every bit an artist ! Art like beauty is in the eye of the beholder ! Been enjoying your videos thoroughly for a while and subscribed a while back. Your presentation of the videos as well as your joy of what your doing is unprecedented ! Along with your outlook and humor is very much appreciated ! 😁 Much love from the Great state of Maine ! Take care Ken
I wish I could have met a builder like this when I was younger to learn from. Seems to have the perfect temperament for teaching. Seems like an honest guy too. Rock on.
Back in the day, I worked at a lumber company that sold these as packages. I knew a lot of guys that bought them to make starter homes. The main cost is in the trusses. Everything else is variable depending on taste, finish etc..
Sir you are a artist, your a carpenter and just look at the end product you built so your an artist in every form. Great work and have a Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Ken, I beg to differ. You ARE an artist... you create excellent beautiful buildings. Don't kid yourself! Really enjoy your transparent tutorials on pricing. Have a fruitful & healthy 2021!
I would 100% Disagree with you about the Artist comment. You build stuff from wood. Not everyone can do what you do. The buildings always look good, the videos are always informative, you are just a different type of Artist. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Thank you for posting these videos. I really appreciate how straightforward and informative they are. One suggestion is that you might want to add a link to your website to your video description.
You are an artist at building that's for sure. Love your videos I wish you were in Pa, that's where we are and that's where we plan to build. Thanks for sharing your art at building. Peace and bless
As I'm to understand your statement, the price was $36.5k labor included. Quite a good deal and excellent craftsmanship. If ever you want to winter in AZ to work let me know. Excellent work. Thanks
The Garage looks nice and worth the price. I really want to comment on how nicely the video was done and the picture over picture scenes was great. Overall a perfect video and Garage.
Great job. There were parts of the video where I thought you were in front of a green screen. In Chicago the would charge 20 grand for such a build. Love the layout and the second floor.
It'd be interesting to see the price difference in wall height options. I really wish I'd gone with walls tall enough to accommodate at least an 8' door.
Fun to watch you put these buildings up so fast. Nice work. I love that Gambrel, and barn red to boot. 👍 Who would give this a thumbs down? I don't get that at all...
Just found this channel. This is really interesting to me, please keep making these! It's great publicity for your business, informative, and just really satisfying to watch the build process.
We're closing on buying a house in Maine. May be needing a garage. We won't be near you in VT, but knowing you're in New England gives us a good idea on pricing. And you and your team do excellent work. Finestkind!
Hello from St. Louis Missouri Ken. I enjoyed this video sir. I'm looking to have something very close to this built in the next year or so. The building would be a hanger with small shop on ground level and a planning, sleeping on the second. Really the only difference would be a large door opening to accommodate a 23 ft wing span (aprox 24ft opening?). You've done a nice job here Ken. I appreciate the time you took to explain the details. You have gained another subscriber sir.
I'm very happy to see your second floor wall and rafter method. It's just how my dad and I figured on doing a gambrel roof in the future. We wanted to put up a 36x80. Unfortunately with the rising material costs I kept putting construction on hold to save up more money and my dad passed away before we could start our project. Just want to let you know your construction of the upstairs made me very happy to see and my dad would approve also. I would hire you and your guys if you were close by. Keep up the good work and be safe.
Great following and watching your videos, Ken. I see you also build some projects bigger than 24x24. Nice work, you definitely are an example of smarter, not harder work skills.
Hi Ken, Is gambrel your favorite style of garage? You seem to do a lot of them? Your base pricing seems very fair, and I appreciate your comments on the details ( ie types of fasteners & material dimensions) of your methods of construction. Thanks for taking the extra time in explaining. Looking forward to the “options” video. Stay warm in the snowy north of New England.
Love the gambrel style roof for a garage w/room above. I have a 24x48 garage w/workshop I want to build - have you ever doubled your 24x24 plan to a 24x48 with garage doors on the long end?
Wow. You guys are really fast. It always took me much longer to build anything. lol. The vinyl siding looked great, but it's not practical here in Texas. The summers are so hot that you can actually see the vinyl siding drooping because of the heat. Cement board is the most practical here.
Really excellent videos Ken. You have a great demeanor and pace explaining the building process. Would love to see more detail of how you integrate the stairs into the frame. Also do you build the trusses in your shop too? Keep up the great work :) Phil
I noticed the exposed roof wrap on the gambrel roof under the lean-to shed roof (12:39 to 13:09)...how was that detail finished? Roofing? Siding? #inquiring minds 🤔😊
I notice most of your buildings have a sizeable amount of OSB board, in 50 years do you this wood will hold up like regular AC plywood? Thanks for the videos and your time.
Prices are different but about $1000 difference between materials used to build with because of the different products and thickness of siding and the quality of windows. So if you paid $1000 more it’s better built up with higher quality products and that’s the difference between 30 years and 50-60 years later the higher quality products last 50-60 years with little to no maintenance costs.
Im in Connecticut and I had to look in the comments and I just knew I knew I would have bet money you were a new england boy ...you remind me of norm abram lol very talented ..Im fixated on these cabins garages barns very cool stuff
This guy earned my like by letting you know how much the damn thing cost right off the bat.
YUP! Liked it within the first 10 seconds
Who ever gave this a thumbs down must have paid a lot more for the one that they had built. Great job Ken.
Haha thanks
Some people are just miserable
All depends where it's being built. Bc I live where hurricane Ida made landfall and the lumber companies are sticking it to us right now.
Yes Sir, you ARE certainly an Artist. Your medium just happens to be wood and nails. Your garages are beautiful...
Thanks
I love your videos. Your the only one on RUclips that tells us the prices. Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Exactly, every beats around on price as if they are spending their grandma money
Honestly, this would be perfect size for a small little 1br house. Nice sized living room, kitchen and utility downstairs, with a bedroom, large master bath and storage upstairs. Plop it on a few acres with some French doors to a deck looking out the bedroom.
exactly what I'm thinking
Ken, you most certainly are an artist! Your builds are done beautifully and with great care in the details. That is the mark of an artist!
Thanks
So rare to watch a video that was to the point and straight forward with pricing ! Great job Ken, you're a rare breed.
One of my favorites styles, the Gambrel... Love the windows and the upstairs.
Thanks for watching
Just had to say, your a very rare n unique person...in a good Way..not many men with integrity left...your voice is like a smooth flowing stream...Peace🎯🤗

Much respect for your craft, but I gotta say, your editing skills, humor and being just a nice guy makes this very satisfying 😃
Thanks for watching
*Kens Karpentry* Bravo well done thank-you sir for taking the time to bring us along. God Bless.
Thanks for watching and same to you
I think it's funny how you talk about your lack of artistic talent and meanwhile manage to build something so beautiful and practical. You are an artist, my friend.
"Not an artist, by any means," says the guy, standing in front of his craftsmanship. I for one, see some means by which you might be. :)
Thanks
I’m so glad that you do these videos. I’m also glad that you don’t try to hide anything. You are a true craftsman.
Thanks
Ken, YOU ARE an artist...just different art supplies, GREAT JOB beautiful barn I love it!!!
Hope these videos continue. Straightforward information that demystifies single family construction costs & methods is very helpful, especially to people just starting out.

Laminated beams are not cheap either
Sir you are a artist, your a carpenter and just look at the end product you built so your an artist in every form. Great work and have a Merry Christmas to you and yours.
You are an Artist, the way you and your crew build things! Very entertaining and informative.
I've always wanted to learn how to build a barn looking roof. Great job team!!😊
Honest and upfront guy. I built a 32x48 Gambrel Pole Barn in Sept 2018. OSB was $11-$12 a sheet.
Thanks
This gentleman is seems to be a really down to earth individual. I like the gambrel style.
Thanks
Ken, I beg to differ. You ARE an artist... you create excellent beautiful buildings. Don't kid yourself!

You are an artist. That barn is a craft and work of art. Love it!
Thanks
Wish you lived in my next of the woods. Y’all do fantastic work for what looks to be a solid price. Love the videos keep em rolling
Thanks
Thank you for posting these videos. I really appreciate how straightforward and informative they are. One suggestion is that you might want to add a link to your website to your video description.
Thanks good idea
Ken, this is similar to my barn at my house. Love it and extra storage upstairs. Not sure what I'm building up north yet! Great price nice work!
Thanks for watching
The Bob Ross of carpenters. Thanks for your videos.

Ken, you are Awesome!!
I love your work. You are very patient and thorough.

Great video, did not hold us in suspense on the price and gave an excellent explanation of the process.
The Garage looks nice and worth the price. I really want to comment on how nicely the video was done and the picture over picture scenes was great. Overall a perfect video and Garage.
Thanks for watching
Thoroughly enjoyed this and other of your videos, wish you lived close to Charlotte NC. You would have a customer for sure.
Sorry thanks
Wonderful how Ken breaks out the costs. Honesty! I wish you built in Massachusetts.
Maybe not an artist but a true craftsman and a likable guy!
Thanks
Great job. There were parts of the video where I thought you were in front of a green screen. In Chicago the would charge 20 grand for such a build. Love the layout and the second floor.
I loved this video. Yes, you are an artist and a talented craftsman. My guess is that you’re an excellent teacher. Thanks for doing this.
Thank you

Nice to see sill plate gasket and bolts poured in the cement to secure wall nice and tight. Nice job you see skiped by so many.
Great job Ken, you've really kicked your videos up another notch.
Thanks
You are an artist that uses dimensional lumber... Looks like a quality job every time.
Thanks for watching
Saying your not an Artist. Dang man that garage is Art to me. Good Job. Wish I had the money for one of those.
Thanks
Ken I've been in construction for quite some time, but I have never seen anybody move & nail as fast as you can. It is really quite Amazing !
It'd be interesting to see the price difference in wall height options. I really wish I'd gone with walls tall enough to accommodate at least an 8' door.
Thanks coming up
As always first class workmanship, wow those colors go good together.
Thanks
That's some amazing work!
I would truly love to make an extension to my house/garage. I like to watch these videos and dream of the possibilities.
Thanks for watching
Whoever down votes Ken's videos must get out of the wrong side of the bed every day.I would hate to meet them or have them as neighbours.
Haha thanks
24' x 24' is what he said in the beginning, for those who forgot partway through (like me).
Thanks
Yes you are an artist your Gambrel Garages are picturesque 🖌
Haha thanks
Fun to watch you put these buildings up so fast. Nice work.
I love that Gambrel, and barn red to boot. 👍
Who would give this a thumbs down? I don't get that at all...

I'm a a new subscriber and I love this channel!!! I haven't seen a buncha unnecessary blah, blah, blah, or ego yet!!! Kudos!!!!!
Thanks for subscribing
That's a house where you park your car in the living room...
Haha yes
I'm very happy to see your second floor wall and rafter method. It's just how my dad and I figured on doing a gambrel roof in the future. We wanted to put up a 36x80. Unfortunately with the rising material costs I kept putting construction on hold to save up more money and my dad passed away before we could start our project. New England here, love your videos, that garage will go well with my Dutch Colonial in CT. Love the Yellow one you. Built too. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks
Great following and watching your videos, Ken. I see you also build some projects bigger than 24x24. Nice work, you definitely are an example of smarter, not harder work skills.

Great to see they still some men doing amazing work in this crazy world.

Excellent price and craftmanship and presentation
Thanks
That’s a pretty good price for that.

I do like them
Great video, I'm assuming that price doesn't include the slab? Thanks
Kens Karpentry - Good looking garage. How wide of a spread can you do this type of garage ?
LOVE your videos ... My husband and I are going to build a 32X30 Gambrel 2 story 2car garage with room above 2nd floor living space..
Thanks. Hope it goes well
"I am not an artist by any stretch."
You kind of are, actually.
Haha thanks
Excellent craftsmanship from a 34 year job superintendent. BTW, my guys never worked that fast. lol
Haha thanks
Love the gambrel style roof for a garage w/room above. I have a 24x48 garage w/workshop I want to build - have you ever doubled your 24x24 plan to a 24x48 with garage doors on the long end?
We have done it that way.
Great Video! I love the production style of the video.
Thanks
I went with a peak-to-peak truss on mine to eliminate the two upstairs walls which opened up the upstairs area tremendously.
Nice
You say you're not an artist but your work says otherwise
Wow. You guys are really fast. It always took me much longer to build anything. lol. The vinyl siding looked great, but it's not practical here in Texas. The summers are so hot that you can actually see the vinyl siding drooping because of the heat. Cement board is the most practical here.
Another great video Ken. When I watch your videos it makes me wish I was there helping. You have a great crew.
Thanks
Sure wish I could find a guy like Ken for my build. Nice job... 👍
Actually, you are an artist... you all are! Look at what you build!
Thanks
That Ladder hoist @4:36 is a GREAT idea…
🌨️🌨️🌨️ It's here! The Gambrel video!
Thanks for watching
I would love to have a 3 bay garage with 2 bedroom apartment built in NC if you want to come do it. Love your videos.
Smart to pre build the walls off site and trailer them.
Thanks
Really excellent videos Ken. You have a great demeanor and pace explaining the building process. Would love to see more detail of how you integrate the stairs into the frame. Also do you build the trusses in your shop too? Keep up the great work :) Phil
Thanks for watching. We typically buy the trusses
Who is making this videos he has talent. Also a great job. I love your works. This video deserves 👍.
Thanks for watching
I noticed the exposed roof wrap on the gambrel roof under the lean-to shed roof (12:39 to 13:09)...how was that detail finished? Roofing? Siding?
#inquiring minds 🤔😊
That was finished with metal roofing
Nice! You’re definitely an artist in your field!
Wow, thanks!

Very helpful video. Thanks! Ken, did the owners build a wall between the areas for art and for a car?
