As Christians we should be judging certain things but not for someone’s ultimate salvation; that is ultimately up to God. The key to rightly judging is removing the log from your own eye before helping your brother remove the speck from his. Please don’t think we are not to judge others actions. There are truly evil things in this world; the key is to judge according to Gods standard. Montell clearly does not believe in the God of the Bible which means he will not be inheriting the grace that is given by Him. We should be calling for repentance not pointing him to destruction.

It even tells us we will know somebody by their fruits. How will we know their fruits if we do not judge their actions? The goal is to imitate Christ. If we see people actively sinning, but decide not to use our judgment then we are also sinning. Be careful not to get lost in the semantics.

This might sound a little unhinged, but I'll say it anyway. I've been seeking escape for as long as I can remember myself. Elaborate daydreams as a child, video games later on, and writing now, writing's always been there, but it's my only productive/creative escapism method these days.
In 2021 I revamped an old character - a man who came from a religious (Christian) background and lost his way at some point, pulled away from God, and gave in to the lifestyle of a sinner, but not without constantly feeling guilt over that. Alcoholism, social isolation and perversion basically, a kind soul who punishes himself for his sins by pulling away from society and no longer believing that he is worthy of God's love. Now, I don't come from a religious background myself, but through this character, the first spark ignited. In addition to that, I always research and discover new music for my characters, so I can give them more depth etc. And that's how I came to discovery Montell, actually. My fictional character first felt this man's music, and by consequence, so did I.
I am very, very grateful to have discovered Montell and his work. In a world of emphasis on image, copied and pasted productions, entire artists, I could feel from day one that this man was something entirely authentic and unique, which is so, so rare to come across these days. I can confidently say that I've never heard anything else that reminds me of Montell's work, and I genuinely think that's something that every artist wants to have said about their work. I'm happy and proud to be part of this journey, and I promise to support, too, when I can economically afford to.
Thank you for everything, Montell. I am looking forward to seeing your growth as an artist and a person, and I do genuinely believe you're here to do great things with your gift.
God bless, and all the very best to you and your creative endeavours.

Specifically speaking to Yatchy, I've grown up with him and he has brought happiness and positivity to his music in different fashions and tones. The pillars of faith shouldn't be held up by our parents' perception. We should be able to build up our own relationship with God and not feel pressured to by another. That's a huge way people are not able to "find" God. They aren't feeling it; they aren't in it. When I was saved, I was in my room watching a video explaining the gospel. I understood it and felt actual guilt. I never felt pressure to be saved, I only saw my consequence, and I hated what I've done. I completely saw how Jesus dying saved us, and I couldn't stop crying. That's the power of God. That's evidence the spirit of Christ has come upon me. My parents were never Christians. I wasn't brought up a Christian. It was just me and God alone in my room.

We need an interview like this, but for you! I’ve never seen an artist have so much tension with his own audience but I think people just need *this*, more of you Montell, and your thoughts and perspective and voice. I think there’s a lot of confusion for those that follow you and we need to give eachother the grace to a) understand you and where you’re coming from and b) you to understand the people who support you and where they’re truly coming from. At the end of the day each person here is a human being and everyone has perceptions and misconceptions, from both sides. But I patiently wait for a time where we can come together and understand one another again, because It shouldn’t be like this. But I think only you can restore that connection, not through posts that people need to decipher but an honest and open conversation just like this

I pray He reveals the message of the Cross to you, everything we need to run this race and live this life, was paid for at the Cross. The grace to obey, the power to say no to sin, the grace for an increase in faith, was paid for at the Cross. Jesus loves you so much, God loved you so much that He did everything for us to live this life victoriously, and endure to the end. All we have to do is show up and believe in Him. Two grown men glorifying their feelings and condemning their roots simply because it doesn't fit into their selfish interests for fame and status. Yes, you can call me "crazy".. but i can't expect you to understand since you're just as blinded. Don't worry, reality will hit this fallen world real hard soon enough. Bear this in mind. There's no much time for the blind. Run to the Lord Jesus. His love supercedes every comfort of lies. Like Montel said, "someone made all this"... And we all will be held accountable for all we do here in this physical realm by that "someone".. God bless you

This was amazing bro . Hearing you speak from a raw place was cool cause Ive only really been able to peep you from the music and what you post on IG . So I never know if like you went off the deep end or if it's just an artistic display kinda thing . But seeing this I resonate with it alot and I feel like alot of people who grow up christian do ( or just people in general) but most ppl are scared to be transparent . I used to trap pretty heavy and I would see PK's come in a buy some dope all the time and they would tell me "I do what I want , I just can't let certain people know about it " So from one perspective you see a kid walking a straight and narrow path image wise and from another angle you see a kid who was broken , hurting and maybe even a little "lost" as most would say . So when I started making music myself , I started to see the dynamic of the world based on what category people placed music in . I understood that music is a representation of who that person is but then there's the other side of the coin where its also a product that's being sold .. So it can only be sooo transparent at one time . Like if that same worship artist whos singing about serving God and following Jesus made an introspective album about the dark parts of their life and what they really thought and felt at the time ,within the same package .. It might not sell too well to their target audience . So it's almost like you have to choose , who you want to sell this to ... But most "Real' Artist don't really think like that . Rick Rubin said one time that "The consumer comes last when it comes to making music" Like you can't make the music to please an audience , It has to be something that comes from a real place within yourself . But when it comes to christian music , the thought process is "I wanna let the Holy Spirit within me speak, But I can't let too much of myself get on it because then it'll get dirty and it wont edify Gods sheep" . But when you give it out raw and uncut , you show them the good bad and the ugly and if they can get passed the dirt they can actually get a clearer picture of what the human heart is going through. In the Bible we see the ugly side of alot of believers , God didn't leave that out so why should we ? But then you read psalms and it's just so pure and holy , I almost have to believe that was the space that the psalmist was in at the time of writing . But I say that to say , you built this platform on the foundation of believing in christ and that to me is a firm foundation . "Wonderful God" did so much for me on my Journey of getting to know Jesus . nd your music that is a little more introspective really let me know that im not alone and that other people struggle with this good and evil dynamic . My only 2 cents would be to not keep Jesus out of it . Bring em into the mess . Christianity the religion and Jesus the person are two different relationships and the one that matters is with Jesus the person . You don't do your friends dirty because you don't want to lose them as a friend , not because youre scared of what they'll do to you . Nd that's love . But youre breaking boundaries and it's a beautiful thing bro . Keep going 💯 Love

Hey brother- been thinking about leaving a note for a while, but have been cautious about it since I don’t want to just add to the noise. I honestly don’t think it’s healthy for most people in the public eye to read comments, but since you have been, I’ve been working on something that I would want you (and other fans) to see. Here are the two things I’ve landed on that I think would be helpful to add- apology and nuance.
Before anything else- Montell I am sorry. I know I can’t apologize on behalf of the entire Church and everyone you feel that has pushed you away but I want to try. I’m sorry we’ve poured judgement on you instead of Christ-like love. I’m sorry we’ve assumed things about someone we don’t know. I’m sorry we’ve argued with you in the comments. I’m sorry for how we’ve weaponized the Sword of the Spirit against one of our own instead of the true enemy. I’m sorry we’ve pigeon holed you into being a strictly Christian artist, when life is so much more nuanced. I hope somewhere in your journey you can find a place to forgive us, even if everyone single person who hurt you isn’t apologizing. I have been praying for you, and will continue to (and I’m not just saying that).
Now for some nuance- part of me hopes and wants to believe that there is more going on than meets the eye (this section is more for other readers but if you want to confirm/deny that would be epic too). The main idea I’m processing: Montell Frazier is an artist and Montell Fish is a character, so there is some form of deviance from reality for the sake of art and portraying a message. In the same way that Dj Gummy Bear and Ghostboi were created to explore ideas, Montell Fish is still a part of that. Based on this assumption, there could be a whole range of actual realities contrary to “Montell is now satanic/isn’t a Christian anymore”. Option 1- Montell and God are still very close, and this whole Charlotte arch is entirely an artistic choice, designed to offend the religious elite (in the same way Jesus would consistently piss off the Pharisees). These offensive choices could also be happening as a tool to drive engagement (more comments=more engagement=more help from the algorithm=more reach). In the third album of this trilogy, Montell reaches acceptance and goes back to God- it’s all for the plot. Option 2- that’s what this started as, but people in the comments pushed Montell towards actual deconstruction. I think this is a very real possibility. The degree to which the imagery has become pagan/satanic is an artistic exaggeration of walking away from the faith. I would call this the Kanye effect… in his documentary, Kanye asks Coodie to stop filming at some point because he began playing a character- Kanye eventually became the character that he was originally just putting on for show. Look where it’s led him.
Option 3- there is still some degree of artistic expression, but Montell really has left the faith and is exploring paganistic/worldly ideals.
To you Christians in the comments: give Montell the benefit of the doubt… he is a human being experiencing a season of hardship. Many of you reformed believers hold tightly to assurance of faith… in that case, it’s impossible for Montell to have left Christ. To those of you who don’t hold to that doctrine, we know that God leaves the 99 for the 1- let Him do His thing. God will keep pursuing Montell as He has pursued each of us. No one is to far gone. Pray for Montell, and unless you actually know him, leave him alone.

    • @toniodejimi3905
      @toniodejimi3905 9 месяцев назад +17

I think it's even more nuanced than that, though. I think that there were definitely some people who unfairly criticized and attacked him for not being the textbook Christian man. Those people weaponized the Word and expected a 25-year-old to be perfect. He can't be. That's a legitimate issue, but at the same time, there have been people coming from a genuinely good place who are nervous about the direction of his music. It's one thing to make a few secular songs about love or telling some story, but when Scripture is getting quoted less, and we see the flesh take over, that's when we need to (lovingly, which some of us haven't done well) correct and make sure he looks at God instead of the storm. This life just isn't worth eternal damnation, I'm sorry, it isn't. It's a crappy situation where we see the enemy rip apart, scheme and manipulate in order to get people away from God, both within his life and our reactions to it. I've seen this story play out too many times before and it would be a massive loss to lose such a giant in the Christian music space. :/

I’m sorry but from a reformed perspective we would actually say he never knew Christ to begin with. The only other option is that he has stumbled. Sadly many will be before the Lord one day and he will say depart from Me, I never knew you. God is the sole proprietor of our salvation there is nothing you can do to earn it that’s why it is grace and mercy. If we could do something to earn our salvation we wouldn’t need Jesus; which is clearly not the truth.

@@toniodejimi3905 I agree completely… definitely is more nuanced since Montell is a human being and all humans are complex (especially creatives)- I had just already said a lot lol. I guess the nuance that I’m trying to prioritize is giving him the benefit of the doubt as an artist making a statement and figuring out his life. And I agree that the enemy is very effective in corrupting people in the public eye. What I’m wrestling with is if we should be lovingly calling out or if that should be a job for people who are actually in his life and know him personally

@@dakotataylor4696 hi Dakota! I agree completely and that’s what I was going for… my apologies if you felt misrepresented. I was thinking through the lens of that second option you presented (thinking that he is stumbling and God will pick him back up as one of the elect)
Ultimately none of us can look at another person and determine if they are saved or not, but Jesus did say we can know his followers by their fruit… looking at Montells early career it did seem like he was bearing fruit that seemed to point to a true relationship with Christ, so that’s what I was alluding to

I'm sorry, but you can't give this man an excuse. No doubt, God still loves him and is near to him, but he can't be pushed away from God because he knew him he used to seek Him. However, he still chose his flesh over Christ. To be honest, this has nothing to do with other Christians. It's honestly just him. The Christian lifestyle or music didn't fulfill him in this life. This is spiritual warfare, not about him turning from Christ because of other Christians opinions of him.

This was a huge blessing. Thank you Yachty and Montell. Made me feel like this was a pitstop along the way. You both, are very aware of yourself it feels, and idk that feeling of slowing down brushed off onto me in a way that kind of splits up my internal world into a place of peace and a place of work. Almost like this was an escape from the hustle of everyday life but not quite. If that last part made sense idk. But thank you guys. Peace and Love. -Nick.

But are you growing towards a new higher calling from the Lord or are you pushing into the flesh which will ultimately betray you? I mean this with absolutely no hate or anger. I mean this because you make phenomenal music that has opened doors in my life and others on what worship can sound like. I understand that you might not have grown up in a household that was biblically sound, and there is a lot of unpacking (both within Scripture and outside of it) that probably needs to happen there. God won't damn you to Hell, absolutely, but living in iniquity isn't the way that we are called to live. You've been in my prayers that you will grow stronger in your faith because it would break my heart to see someone with a genuine gift, who made Christian music look and sound cool to slowly fizzle out with God. Though this life may have difficulty, know that it won't always be moments of suffering, for our Lord wants us to be overjoyed and content with what He's given us.
Jesus said this kinda nutty thing in John that I think might be a reminder for all of us: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). Fight the fight and know you are loved.
