I mean this has nothing to do with anyone's hobby just normal retrain airsafty is all... Like even tghe FAA doesn't log ever acdent even airlines make so this is just rutiane... also this could easly just be a niormal mid air colestion when both aircrews where legel and being profesti9onal and liscned... Which you can't gffly a drone with the kind of energy to put that monster dout of service for very long with out a comela drone and comercal piloyts oisnces.... Like no Drone you legelly coan operate with out those lisnces would cauyse that much damage... Hince why you don't need a lisnce for them... So yeah this won't ruin anyone anything this is just rutuin mid air colstion FAA investgation...

My Dad was one of the design engineers at Canadair in Montreal during the 1960's...he worked on aspects of the water bombers (as we call them in Canada). They really do look like they are made out of Lego blocks....but this is because they are optimized for low speed maneuvers had high lifting loads. Able to drop a water load, return to a body of water, skim along the surface to re-load within about 10 seconds and return back to the fire scene faster than any other type of firefighting aircraft puts them in a league of their own. Unfortunately their production was ended back in the '80s or '90s as demand was not their. Past few decades the service/support was sold to another company and they are once again under production with global demand ballooning. I wish the US & Canada would place a priority on the building/support and do some kind of joint manufacturing....creating large fleets to really make big impacts on these fires. Could you image what a fleet of 20 or even 100 of them could do right now in LA?

Thank your Dad for his innovation &you for sharing his story.Practical applied engineering is the backbone of both our countries. I am not sure of Canada but engineering or really any innovation that cannot support a profit/shareholders return is contraindicated in current USA.Safety in any guise is seen as unnecessary ie not part of design, manufacture, maintenance. They say the pendulum of change is constant perhaps we will return to some of our shared talents.

WTF? They are probably sitting in a second home safe with no concern about being homeless or sheltering in their cars worried, waiting to return to all they have in the world. Depending on shelters, the generosity of others, insurance woes, and the potential of homelessness. Any home loss is devistating regardless of who you are however, enough! Lets focus on the true victims here. The people who have no means to replace what they have lost. Also, I’m pretty sure that Canada will continue to support the United Stated during times of need regardless of politics. My thoughts and prayers are with the First responders, the victims and the loss of life, regardless of the scale of impact. It is so horrific on every scale. God Bless you all.

I live in Quebec, Canada, the province which has sent these planes to help in California. I once saw one fly barely over the treetops and descend onto a tiny lake 2 miles long and less than 1/2 a mile wide to scoop up water for a drop on a fire near my home. Not only are the planes incredible, the crews are highly skilled and have ice water in their veins!

California doesn't just have two fire fighting aircrafts.
Each winter since 1993, California rents two Canadian CL-415 and their pilots from the province of Québec, since these planes aren't needed in winter in Québec.
So while it's true that California only rents two CL-415 aircrafts from Québec each winter, it also has other firefighting planes and helicopters of its own.

They can do a 1500 gal drop every 9-10 minutes when, like the palisades fire, there is a body of water nearby.
No other plane can drop more water in a day.
California should buy a fleet of them.

I have an FAA license to fly a drone for commercial work, which I do often, as well as sometimes for leisure / photography. It's sad how many people buy drones and fly them around illegally. They are causing problems for the drone community. Drones definitely aren't going away, and they will only become more frequent, which probably will create strickter rules for hobbyists. Currently, we have remote ID requirements that almost all drones must comply with. I think certain drones under 249 grams may be able to work around it but I'm not totally sure how the laws have progressed. My drone is heavier and the ID is turned on all the time. Many drone owners have no clue, and /or just ignore the remote ID requirements. The drone has a tail number just like other aircrafts do, and the ID links to the controller and pilot info. If this pilot didn't have ID on AND caused this problem it's just one more law this person broke! I do think as drone pilots such as myself, it's a duty to inform other friends / drone pilots that we know or may interact with, and keep other's up to date with rules and requirements.

I remember watching one of these fire fighting planes tackling a blaze in Italy. They were going round and round for hours, continuously scooping up water from the sea and dropping it on the fire. The skill to do that type of flying must be immense, not without danger, and the concentration intense. The pilots appeared on the news in the evening looking absolutely exhausted. The reporter said that the pilots were being treated as heroes and quite right too.
