Chuck seems like a super cool guy. Very down to earth. This entire interview caught me way off guard. No offense to him but I didn't expect him to be such a chill, intelligent guy. God bless him. He seems to be doing well for himself!
You people make The same Old boring " HUMBLE, DOWN TO EARTH" comment on every single wrestling video, give it a damn rest, they Are humans just like me and you, Stop pretending to be shocked that wrestlers behave normally
Palumbo was so underrated..when WCW ended i thought for sure that him and Ohaire were going to come in as the next big tag team (NBT) and eventually both have a singles run
When I was a kid I really liked those guys and would always cheer them on during their matches, I was too young for it to occur to me that they were supposed to be a homosexual tag team. It's like Chuck said, it just seemed like two really close bros. The wedding segment was really interesting for me because I around that time I learned what being gay meant and seeing that kinda didn't bother me like some other people would've been. In my opinion they were the most fun tag team and I actually liked their theme song.
I hope they know how brave or bold they were for doing that gimmick in 2002 as male wrestlers in America. It was a different time back then.. It was actually very forward for its time, so Chuck and billy being comfortable doing this and taking a risk of getting real hatred is nothing to scoff at.
To be fair in Billy's case, he had been doing controversial stuff long before this tag team gimmick, Mr.Ass was a gimmick that revolved around him literally showing off his ass even. So this gimmick was nothing for him. Chuck honestly had a whole lot more to lose if this tag team didn't work out in the long run. So the dice were definitely rolled in his favor at the time.
Billy and Chuck was so fun to watch. It was funny, it was new. And as good as Billy was, man. Nothing against Chuck, but Billy was a superstar. He helped Chuck elevate himself too
Love how I watch the video...make a comment....Leave the video, and there’s a Billy and Chuck recommendation, after I scroll down lol. Keep forgetting that the “Flamboyant” gimmick didn’t start til after the invasion. But, the posedown stuff happens in Jan/Feb, a few months later.
I remember when I went to the WWE Global Warning tour in Melbourne Australia back in 2002. Somebody in the audience yelled "CHUCK WANTS A BILLY" and somebody else yelled BILLY WANTS A CHUCK"... 😆
Why when they talk about billy and chuck people are so scared to tell the truth... they were not friend or bros... they were a gay storyline end of the story
If you recall, it was revealed during their commitment ceremony on Smackdown that they weren’t actually gay and that it was a publicity stunt taken too far because of Rico.
Just watched the Billy Gunn interview and he said the same thing. They had fun. They had fun playing 2 supposedly gay guys and now that I typed that, it sounds so wrong.
I remember a late night talk show host asking if they were gay in real life and they look at each other for a long second before saying no. I've never know if one of them was in real life or if the hesitancy was breaking kayfabe.
They actually did turn face after they didn’t go through with the “ceremony”. For a short time, they continued as a team, but without all the homosexual undertones as babyfaces. Then Billy got injured, so Chuck was on his own for a bit before doing the Full Blooded Italians stable. When Billy returned, he brought back the Mr. Ass gimmick.
U obviously didn’t understand what he meant, he means wrestlers who mark out for their career and think its real like bret hart was.... taker lived his gimmick to keep the mystique alive, nothing more... not for glory and recognition.
@@grimreaper9477 facts bro that was well said, but yes bret hart immediately came to my mind when chuck mentioned wrestler's living their gimmick and taking it seriously.
@@grimreaper9477 Bret Hart one of the most successful wrestlers ever, vs Chuck Palumbo, yeah I'm sure Bret's devastated that he was a mark for himself.
Honestly, I think the only real issue I ever had with the team when their gimmick changed a bit under Rico's management, was the theme music. Like "You Look So Good To Me" was a good song on it's own. But when they first came out to "I've got it all!", I always thought that was just so much more fitting for them. The former theme, was more suited for Rico really.
Nice to hear Chuck's take which I have to respect BUT the Billy & Chuck deal as a whole was garbage to me and a waste of both performers especially Chuck but typical poor use of a WCW performer and typical gimmicky WWE approach. Billy Gunn already had a persona, this one was poor use.
I agree that it was trash. I figured they were getting punished for something, and got turned into a comedy gay couple. Cringey. I'm surprised so many people liked it, because it didn't actually help the image of gay people.
@@Danielson1818 As a gay man, I have to agree. After that, everybody expected all gay men to be athletically gifted solid workers with big muscles. We struggle against that stereotype to this day.
I always wonder if wrestlers worry about the negative impact of perpetuating harmful stereotypes as a heel gimmick. I'm sure a lot of the people involved in the Billy and Chuck gimmick want to act like it was positive representation for the queer community, but the truth is that it was always just a way to get some cheap heat from the largely homophobic audience of the time.
In the long run, the fact that they were faces kind of saved the gimmick from going down some of the trashy one's back in the day. Goldust could've ended the same way
