  • For the Pacific Bonsai Expo, Oakland, CA Nov 12-13 2022, Pacific Bonsai Museum Curator Aarin Packard created a cross-disciplinary art installation called “Bonsai Deconstructed.” The installation featured our LAB Limber Pine composition, a glass “bubble” crafted by Courtney Branam and the team at the Museum of Glass HotShop in Tacoma, WA, and an intricate, hand-cut paper screen by California artist Tahiti Pehrson.
Packard leads a conversation about the composition, reflecting on our LAB project (2018-2020) that brought together bonsaist Ryan Neil, ceramicist Ron Lang, and furniture maker Austin Heitzman with critical support from patrons Millie and Craig Russell.
Courtney Branam recounts the glass-blowing experience at MOG and the challenges of blowing a large glass bubble.
Limber pine (Pinus flexilis) styled by LAB artist Ryan Neil at the LAB Session 1, potted in a Ron Lang container at the LAB Session 2 and assembled with a concrete stand by Austin Heitzman at the LAB Session 4.
