  • In this video I talk a bit about the physiological mechanism of action behind both bicarbonate and tris-hydroxymethyl aminomethane (THAM) with an emphasis on the differences between how these agents act as buffers.

    This was an excellent explanation! Looks like THAM is still discontinued in the US. Never had an opportunity to see its use in actual clinical practice due to cost and likely never will… interesting nevertheless!

      @@openaccessrespiratorycare3183 I believe it’s currently available in the United States. Pfizer is the manufacturer.

      I just double checked. Pfizer is selling the 18 Grams/500 ml solution.

      This was an excellent presentation! Helped me understand the pH equation again. It is awesome to see there are now ways to fight what the body is going through when it is starting to shut down.
