Just this Yaman performance by the great Shahid Parvez deserves a Padma Vibhushan at least. With his taankari and laykari baaj he was doing what is known in Urdu as "aasmaan se tarey tor kar Lana", plucking stars out of the sky. He had excelled himself with the same Yaman bandishes and taankari with Zakir Hussain some time ago. Are we doing enough to value and adequately reward this most perfect of Sitarists???
This is simply an incredible piece of a divine art. Uatad Shahid bhai reaches directly to the heart. Yaman is a truly soothing and tranquilating melody.
No Sitar has ever spoken more clearly and more powerfully than that of Ustad Shahid Parvez. The clarity, speed, phraseology and sweetness of his tans is just out of this world. Wah Ustad!!

Such honours are not given for only outstanding playing but a proven impact on society across countries , spread and promoting cultures, arts .He will soon be given Padmabhushan which he richly deserves. Last year Buddhaditya ji was awarded the same .
They should really start vetting people before they are allowed in a concert .... make them sit in a room quietly for an hour ... to prove they are capable of it ... and then let them in ... there's just no other way to prevent pigs from entering the concert hall.. Absolutely amazing otherwise...(As always with Ustaad ji)
Cannot agree more. Actually this should be a precondition for attending concerts. The wrong kind of people going to concerts vitiate the environment by doing unmusical things is the bane of these programs nowadays! Some of them know everything there is about classical music.
