I discovered this young phenomenon by chance. I searched RUclips for a good recording of Schumann's Carnaval Op. 9 to listen to during my lunch today, and I came across this gift from Heaven. After that I've watched practically everything on RUclips about this girl. In fact, I am so far without understanding why this girl does not have the projection she deserves ...She certainly deserves it ... By the way, I really enjoyed her reading of Schumann's Arabesque Op. 18.
She's thanking EVERYONE at the end!!! I'd love to have a girl like that as a daughter -or as a teacher!!! lovely ending, apart from an awsome artist, she's an increadibly affectionate communicator!
I'm happy and really astonished that we need this young Aisian Lady to listen to a masterpiece of German romantic music after long time! In concert-programs of Hamburg (my home town) Schumann is not performed anymore, and I do not understand why it ist like this! Ms. Poon - thank You so much! This is really one of the many possibilities to inter prate Schumann! You are lovely! Jürgen, old German Musician from Hamburg, Germany
Juergen Voigt Wrong, Evgeny Kissin also performed Schumann's Carnaval in concert (and better IMHO). The best Carnaval (IMHO) has been played by Art(h)ur Rubinstein - there is no better March of the Davidsbündler (rhythmical superb)! :D
Good music is universal. Thats a shame about Hamburg. I;ve loved Schumann all my life-magic piano music and exquisite lieder. Unfortunately there are fashions in classical music as in everything else. :-(
Dear Tiffany, You are not only a wonderful pianist, but your handling of "carnival" shows that you are wonderful human being! I keep hearing you in my head and it is worth being alive! JJ
I'm blown away. Aside from your amazing technical prowess, you show wisdom and understanding way beyond your age. You've done true justice to this great composition.
Until I happened to encounter this performance, my favorites of this piece were the recordings by Solomon and Cortot. Now I must add one more--- if not the "best"---it is yours, Ms. Poon. Thank you for that from deepest bottom of my heart. You are, I believe, already one of those great pianists in the history. I am looking forward to you visiting my country and have concerts.
What a lovely young lady Pianist Tiffany Poon is and what an awesome ending to this video where Tiffany gives thanks to those who have supported her throughout her career and also thanks the audience for coming, that was a really lovely thing to do Tiffany !!
Another of many really good ones with some extra sensitivity to mood and character added for good measure. And now the real challenge begins -- finding a place for yourself in a world grown increasingly hostile to the very things that make life worth living. May God bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you, dear young lady.
Robert Schumann, unsurpassed at expressing everything about humanity that is beautiful, wonderful yet also fragile and vulnerable. Love your performance Tiffany, thanks!
Oooh! I thnk Schumann would approve. You live this work. Your interpretation is wonderful and it's made my day. I hope you have a fantastic career. :-)
Thank you Tiffany : merci... hope this peace of schumann bring you some feelings... cause you give us much feelings... Continue in you way... Your so cute when you thanks every people... in french : bravo ! merci...See you again on you tube...Good luck
Dear Tiffany, thank you for this masterpiece of piano-art. It has been a real pleasure to me at this wonderfull blue-skyed and sunny Saturday morning to listen to your perfect music. I am following your development over the last couple of years starting with your very impressive Moonlight Sonata at the age of 13 and I admire your progress since then as a result of talent, ambition and discipline. And it has been a real pleasure and honor to me to meet you while you have been on tour last year in Straelen in Germany. I wish you succes and luck for your future and hope to hear more from your wonderfull piano-play either here at youtube, your first CD (when will it be publisched??) or life. Kind regards Werner
Wow Tiffany, are you about to enter college already. You kids grow up so fast it seems to an old man like me. Time goes by so quickly as I grow older. You are such an excellent pianist, I love your video's.
Simply exquisite, Tiffany. A work of this magnitude, which summarizes all genius of Schumann, superbly performed. Here's all impetuous romanticism, delicacy, passion, tenderness, poetry... All that and more sugests me your performance. Brava!!

There are many masters who do this compostion with beauty and skill. But Ms. Poon is unusally alert to the emotional requriements of the sections. A great performance. Brava.
she is a great young pianist. She should have a great career Her interpretation of the the monumental Carnaval is amazing for one so young. With whom did she study at he Juilliard?
Bravo, Indeed! I came back to listen again, and loved it even more today. In fact I've bookmarked it to enjoy again and again in future. Like all true artists you seem to draw most of your inspiration and understanding from within and not so much from tuition and imitation. I'm not sure, since you are so very young, if you are familiar with Guiomar Novaes' interpretation of Carnaval, but your approach reminds me of her in many ways. Please take that as a compliment, since I've always regarded her as the greatest exponent of Chopin and Schumann's work. I wish I could tell you a few little things about Promenade and the Marche. You play so very well it seems churlish to criticize. Most of the “vignettes” were exquisitely well realized; in fact I’ve never heard Aveu played more touchingly. Promenade, however, while “very good,” of course, would benefit from a steadier rhythm. You begin it beautifully, as few do, but have developed a habit of suddenly lurching forward out of tempo in the left hand after each of the impassioned fortes. This throws it a bit off balance. In the Marche-finale, I’d like to hear stronger emphasis in the left hand and a bit more ‘resistance,”, when the Grandfather theme comes in. Also a livelier awareness of what the bass is doing throughout -- particularly in the coda. In general I want to hear more from the bass throughout the entire work. But this may be mere nitpicking. It’s awfully good. Few including many deemed “great” have given us a more satisfying rendition.
Hyramess Hiramess what great feedback, I wouldn't be able to spot anything like that at my current skill level (my current skill level is the ability to play 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.').
Wow, you are everywhere on classical youtube. Is the reason you praise so much because you hope the same enthusiasm will be honored to you? True beauty is appreciated through silence, not through a rehearsed applause.
am I dreaming???? Pinch me. I must not be awake. what is this Tiffany Poon? what? where? how? what is this machine that is not a machine? this artist!!! this painter with piano keys as her colors, fingers are her brushes. how? how? tell me will you. how does someone become the embodiment of art, beauty, soul, expression, story telling, poetry, and still be human? it cannot be real. I must be dreaming. But no you say. You are not asleep. this is real. she is real. it is as you experience it to be.

Extraordinaire musicienne, sonorité et feeling exceptionnel, sans aucun doute une des meilleures pianistes du 21ème siècle
Played with commitment and authority. Simply beautiful. A joy to behold. Bravo!

superb!

Per fortuna che qualcuno ha avuto l'idea di registrare il Carneval op.9 suonato da Tiffany Poon.
Jeffrey Biegel suspects that this piece may have been the inspiration for Keith Emerson's Karn Evil # 9......... Maybe it does.
8:53 - 8:58 papillons???
That's Florestan but it does give a reflection of Papillons. Papillons (in Carnaval) starts at 12:20. (There is also a separate work called Papillons that is Op.2 which is the one that sounds like Florestan.)
i know Carnaval op.9 of Michelangeli and to of Richter at piano, but you play good these music
Beh, direi di non convocare ABM .. questa pianista ha una energia nervosa ed esplosiva e mani fortissime ma i suoi tempi sono troppo veloci e il Cantabile non è il suo forte Se si calma un po' può diventare una pianista molto importante
Secondo me da musicista anche compositore, nè Rachmaninov né Rubinstein eseguono perfettamente Carneval op.9;
E' una affermazione di comodo dire che quei 2 pianisti sono mostruosamente esemplari; nello scorso secolo si facevano confronti tra alcune esecuzioni di determinate
composizioni .
I AM NOT A MUSICIAN BUT MUSIC IS STUCK IN MY BONES AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IT TAKES TO REACH THE TOP OF A CARRIER. TO ME TIFFANY POON SHOULD BE AMONGST THE STARS, SHE CERTAINLY DOES NOT NEED MORE DEDICATION AND DRIVE. THE TROUBLE IS , WHO DO THE PUSHING? OR WHO DOES NOT DO THE PUSHING?
髪の毛サラサラすぎん?!羨ましい
演奏も素敵です✨
This is not the performance ihave on video.who messes about with this music? It sounds like two traxcjs at once slightly out of time.
中间有一段蝴蝶?
Could have more playfulness- more of that Schumannesque manic joy.
In particular I would bring out the fs and ff more, without making it violent.
Seriously, what the fuck. This technicity.
Of course a fantastic moment of music ...... what a tremendous technique and ability ..... and a sincere musicality, real love for the score .....
But, dear Tiffany, there is something missing ...... you forget that Schumann was crazy, mad.
Do not play this as a super Scarlatti-Sonata.
Your music is too bright, too brilliant, too clean.
The Carnaval is neurotic, obsessive, full of dark omens.
Dear Tiffany, give us your fears and anguishes, not your happiness .....
Jesus had his reasons Isaiah
beautiful!!!
