I ordered and tried AG 1 for the gut health part due to problems with constipation and I used it for two months. It did not help with constipation at all and I really didn't notice any other benefit from it.

I think you are correct. But there is a fundamental miss here. People know they need to go to the gym and don’t do it. Same way people know they have to eat better (aka get their nutrients from the food directly but don’t do it). If what AG1 claims is true, and the ingredients are high quality, then I think you are paying for the convenience, even though is probably overpriced.

    • @Randomlycreatedbyme
      @Randomlycreatedbyme Год назад +7

Just take a multivitamin for 20$ a month then. The problem is not the overpriced supplement, the problem is the advertisement behind it.
Podcasts like Huberman promote it and leverage their credentials to make people think this is the most advanced, scientifically backed, line of supplements out there when in reality they don’t even give you the amount of ingredients you are getting.

    •  7 месяцев назад

"If" indeed, but my money is on both not being the case. The first point, that what they claim is true, is pretty obviously not the case.

I will say this. I was very skeptical of trying AG1. I absolutely hate spending money on these things and never get into the current fad! But I decided to try them because going through premenopause had me feeling so terrible all the time!! I would eat clean and take vitamins, but I still felt terrible. So I thought I'd give it a shot. The first week, I thought, nah, it's just my mind telling me I feel better because I wanted to feel better. By the second month, my daughter came to me and said, "Wow, I can totally tell the AG1 is working!! She noticed changes in my energy, esp my moods. No hot flashes, and I sleep better. My cycles are better, plus I'm not bloated. Things regulated out (if you know what I mean) I never wanted to say anything about how much better I felt because I wanted those close to me to see it , if they seen it without me even trying to show them then I knew it wasn't just me thinking it. Now the money..... I absolutely still hate to pay for it!!! It is definitely a sacrifice!! So I didn't take it for a good week. NEVER AGAIN, as long as I can afford it, will I do that again. Feeling better is worth the money!! In my honest opinion. We spend money on other things that we love to do. I choose to spend money on something that makes me feel better so I can do those things I love to do. This is just my honest review and funny how I hadn't even put a review on their website 🤷‍♀️ guess I should. I'm just not one to even comment on things like this usually.

So, what's the going price for feeling good these days? If it works for YOU, then it's fact. This nutritionist is giving us the 3rd person science based view, not personal experience.
I say, personal experience trumps science based studies every time. One person's anecdotal experience, is another person's personal scientific victory.

Have you tested out the product? I would love to know if you have tried it out. I am totally on board with the notion that food is always the better option than supplements, but many people don't like to cook (takes a lot of time, effort, preparation, etc.) and as a result people often do not get sufficient servings of fruits and veggies. By no means am I advocating this as a replacement, but I think I would be remiss not too mention how many people who are unsponsored individuals have raved about the benefits of the product while including it in their diets.

No more snack cravings in the afternoon…no more “hangry” moments. My guess is that I had some sort of nutrient deficiency that’s being addressed by AG1. No, I’m a real person and I’ve been supplementing and bodybuilding for 25 years and I believe that everyone should be supplementing, but I buy very few supplements only the stuff that works and I’ll tell you what this stuff works. I feel great and I think you could probably replicate the drink with about $60 worth of pills or so but I think the sourcing and delivery of these nutrients is worth a little bit of a premium and so I recommend having a greens complex like this with all of the different probiotics, etc. included. I would suspect that really anyone of these companies would be sufficient.

I wouldn't say this is a true review, since you didn't actually try it. I think you present valid points for people that aren't already aware, but at the same time, you're ignoring a major consideration here. For people who aren't getting a well-balanced diet, or have time to cook and integrate fresh foods into their diet, this is a simple and easy (expensive) way to ensure they're getting nutrients they may be missing otherwise. Obviously, someone like yourself who probably eats relatively healthy to the average person won't need this. But for people who have no idea how to eat healthy or want to, this might help them feel better, etc.
Definitely not a miracle drink or anything, but also could be a good fit for some people.

AG1 has worked wonders for me, I love it. I have more energy, sleep better, and have a more consistent mood. I'm an artist and not qualified to discuss the science! I accept my results may be placebo or just feeling good about doing something that I feel benefits my health but, I think it's more likely that my diet was deficient and AG1 has covered those bases.
I get why dieticians might be down on supplements like this but not everyone has your knowledge or the time to acquire it. I think it's important to recognise that AG1 does not suggest the drink should be a meal replacement and encourages loving food and healthy eating. I don't think the company can be held responsible for people replacing fruits & vegetables with AG1. I think most people agree that sticking plasters can be useful however, they aren't going to work if someone decides to brew a tea with them rather than use one to cover a wound, as directed! I don't think we can fairly hold AG1 accountable for people using their product irresponsibly.
AG1 is a supplement - to be consumed alongside food. In an ideal world, everyone would have the time and ability to access and prepare three whole-food meals a day, to eat a wide varied diet and in the optimum servings but, that's just not the reality for many people. I would argue that, for someone who eats to the best of their abilities but still has dietary deficiencies, it is better to supplement nutrition than go without. AG1 covers the bases. It is simple, convenient and much more enjoyable than sourcing and swallowing supplements in pill form and more easily absorbed. While AG1 is not cheap, I'd be willing to bet it is cheaper than purchasing the ingredients individually.
I can only share my experience and, at this point in my life, I'm truly grateful for AG1. It's an easy commitment to maintain and, happily, it has outperformed my expectations.

They can do the proper medical diagnosis and tell you what your issue is and what might be causing it. Even IF you don't want to take medicine like a pill or infusion, the Gastro will have good advice and the Dietician can help you create a meal plan to keep you healthy.

Well, I would typically agree with this review because I do think that there’s a lot of marketing scams within the fitness and health industry. I have to say I disagree strongly about this. It’s not that people can’t or don’t want to eat fruits and vegetables. But it’s the fact that fruits and vegetables have become so expensive and often go bad before we’re even able to eat all of them that the cost alone for a month supply of actual fruits and vegetables nowadays probably be more than a green supplement. Also, there’s a substantial amount of carbohydrates from sugars within fruits, and you’re not getting that when you’re taking a supplement.
The point of another comment on here, there are a lot of people that are on the road or working a lot of hours and do not have the ability or the time to make sure they’re getting a balanced diet hence why supplements are even a thing to begin with.

If you cant eat or know what to eat AG1 is a simpler way of getting your daily intake of vegetables just by having 1 drink, $100 a month also pays for convience of having to drive to the supermarket and spend countless hours shopping for your veges and fruit that most likely will go to waste because you dont eat them all in time.

I am a 75 year old woman living on my own. The horrendous cost of fresh fruits and vegetables is so limiting when on a fixed income like I am.
My gut does not tolerate fresh greens, I’m diabetic (controlled with diet), I can’t sleep at night (sleep maybe 3-4 hrs a night) and other health issues. When I do splurge for fresh vegetables and fruits, I often end up having to throw some out because I didn’t feel well enough to cook.
Between the many vitamins and supplements I take, I was spending more than $100 a month in them. When you add in the cost of food that was thrown out, I probably save money with AG1.
I ordered the introductory offer and canceled right away assuming it probably wouldn’t work and I might not cancel before another shipment.
I am going in to my second week and have to admit it seems to be helping my gut issues, sleep is improving just a bit and I have more energy. If this continues to improve I will be reordering.
NOTHING (Including food) works for everyone. I also know this isn’t the placebo effect as I always assume this kind of thing doesn’t work.

I feel like I’ve seen some benefits to AG1, specifically when it comes to gut health, but I’m not padding greedy pockets and paying $100 a month for it. It’s nowhere near worth that. I did the starter/sample pack, but I didn’t renew because a company who charges that much for a product isn’t doing so because it costs that much to produce. They’re doing it because they’re greedy.

For people who aren't dietitians and don't have the ability to easily get in contact with dietitians(ie most people) they aren't going to know what foods they need to eat more of to work on their health. In that sense i think putting vitamins that most people don't know to consume into a nutrient blend is a good idea. I think over saturating tho is a bit sketchy. When you say 400% of daily dose how is that calculated. Is height/ gender important in the discusion, and how important is it. Some needs seem to almost grow exponentially as you look at taller and taller people. Not to mention just looking at the callorie difference between genders. I have to eat nearly twice as many calories as my gf to stay a healthy weight. I'm 5 inches taller than her. I'm just saying they could have so many nutrients so that it's still effective for larger people.

I think all of these naysayers have already made up their mind before even performing an analysis.
First of all, when you look at studies on various vitamins, minerals, and the like, you find that taking significantly higher doses of certain nutrients above the daily recommended dose has magnificent, affects on your health.
Secondly, if you add up what you would pay to try to get this stuff via food or supplementation. The specifically higher dosage of select vitamins and minerals, the probiotics, the prebiotics, the mushroom complex, the antioxidants and immune support. We’re talking at least $50-$60 in pills if not more.
Thirdly, I think having all of this stuff isolated into a liquid form and sourced from fruits and vegetables, and things like that, I think the Delivery of these nutrients in this form is worth a premium.
So it is no surprise to me that people taking this every day on an empty stomach feel so good. I’m taking athletic greens, and trust me I don’t like to spend money on nonsense, and I feel really good.
I think as any kind of nutrition or health, or whatever you wanna call yourself expert I’ve been very interested in that topic for 25 years and I think not only should everyone be supplementing, but I think, especially as you get older you should be looking for very potent Supplements that contain a variety of nutrients like we see an athletic grains.

I think the appeal of these products relates to the fact that many people likely know their diet is Deficient, and this is a quick fix way to address that. But it's certainly not an economically sensible way to do it, nor does it address the underlying problem. Seems more like the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff, because as soon as you stop taking it you're a back to exactly where you started. Personally I think these products are a joke and people should probably just make the effort to eat healthier. The spam-like way this product markets itself through RUclips creators and influences also turns me off. It's very predatory behavior. Does the company really care about their product and their customer or do they just care about how much money it can make them?

Thanks for your insightful and comprehensive review of Athletic Greens AG1. It’s always great to see dietitians giving their honest opinions on wellness products. We appreciate your perspective and want to address some of the points you raised.
Firstly, you’re spot on about the convenience factor of AG1. In an ideal world, everyone would have the time and resources to prepare nutrient-rich meals every day, but that's not always the case. AG1 is designed to be a convenient, quick solution for those busy days when you can't get all your nutrients from food.
Regarding the nutrient content, yes, AG1 is packed with a wide range of vitamins, minerals, prebiotics, and probiotics. The goal is to supplement a regular diet, not replace it. We understand your concern about the risk of overconsumption of certain nutrients. However, the formulation of AG1 is designed to be safe for daily consumption, while aiming to boost areas where typical diets might be lacking.
You mentioned the cost, and we get it - wellness products can be an investment. But think of AG1 as more than just ground-up fruits and vegetables. It’s a carefully crafted blend of high-quality ingredients, designed to support various aspects of health, from gut health to immunity and energy levels. The price reflects the comprehensive nature of the product and the convenience it offers.
We totally agree with you about the importance of eating whole fruits and vegetables. AG1 is not intended to replace these. Instead, it’s there to complement your diet, especially on days when your intake of fruits and vegetables might not be optimal.
Your point on third-party testing is crucial, and we’re proud that AG1 is third-party tested. This ensures the quality and safety of our product, giving our consumers peace of mind.
Regarding the proprietary blend, we understand the need for transparency. The blend is a part of our unique formula, and while we keep the exact amounts confidential, we are committed to ensuring each serving of AG1 delivers effective levels of each ingredient to support health claims.
Lastly, we agree that wellness culture can sometimes be overwhelming with its promises and claims. Our approach with AG1 is to offer a product that supports, not replaces, a balanced diet. If AG1 helps people feel better and supports their wellness journey, that’s a win for us. We encourage everyone to make choices that best suit their health needs and lifestyle.
Thanks again for your review, Hannah. We appreciate the dialogue and the opportunity to discuss the benefits and considerations of AG1. Remember, the best diet is the one that works for you, and supplements like AG1 are here to support that journey, not dictate it.

Clearly, on the most fundamental level, it's better to eat wholefoods rather than "supplements". It's better to eat a chicken breat than drinka protein shake (everything else being equal). But what about the bottom line? Which for some might be the cost of the shopping basket. I can't speak for the US, but in Europe many fruits and vegetables are becoming alarmingly expensive.
I think something that might be relevant is to talk about how much it would cost you, comparatively, to buy whole food products that would give you the same nutritional value as this product.
If this product costs 90 dollars per month but buying the equivalent in ACTUAL broccoli, kale, spinach etc cost you 100 dollars??? Plus the expense and time of buying and cooking that wholefood... well, that might influence people's choice.
It would make an interesting project to focus on some of these products from that perspective.
