I just finished making this. For those who haven’t tried it yet, it is as delicious as it looks. The apple adds a nice crunchy sweetness and the fresh herbs are to die for. It’s so good, thanks John!
LOL to the troll who said it caused then food poisoning.. The only way that could happen is if YOU didn’t cook it thoroughly. That has nothing to do with the recipe. 😂 Troll someone else’s video
My grandmother used to make this for my Grandfather and he loved it! This recipe is very close to her potato salad. She also made it for potlucks and family picnics ect..
I visited Poland some years ago and rather by chance ordered a superdelicious potatoe salad that just looked like yours (there were pickles, herbs, red onion). Can't wait to try It at home.
I also love every single, solitary ingredient in that potato salad!! This looks luscious!!!! I have a friend who uses apple in hers, and I thought it was some of the best potato salad ever. I must make this. I must!!!
I found this foolproof way to hard cook eggs. Cold eggs, cold water in a covered pan. Bring to a boil, turn off heat, let stand at least ten minutes. Drain, fill pan with cold water, let eggs cool a bit, drain, then put the lid back on, and shake the pan. Shells will practically fall off. BTW, I love the idea of adding an apple.
I made it for my visiting extended family too and it was almost completely GONE! They all absolutely loved it! Thanks again for this very awesome recipe 😍
I hate peeling eggs as well I found this tip n used it ..it works Add a tsp of baking soda to the water when boiling eggs As soon as it's boiled, crack a little by shaking the pan ,dunk in iced water Peeling made easy, works everytime for me
This recipe is TRULY a winner. The first time I made it, I made it with baked potatoes; today I use Millie's suggestion: "Boil the potatoes in the jackets." So, I pressure-cooked them, and the peelings almost fell off. Personally--when it's just for me, I like to leave the skins on. The only thing I did different was put the diced apple in a couple tablespoons of lemon juice so they wouldn't turn BROWN (💩) in the salad. I'll garnish it at potluck tomorrow with the fresh dill and some scallions on top.
That's how I made this recipe a couple weeks ago: with left over baked potatoes, and it was WONDERFUL; today, I pressure cooked the russets in their jackets, and the peelings almost fell off the potatoes. If I was making it for just me, I'd leave the skins on.
this is my favorite dish you have made i have a massive obsession with potato salad and the only time i get to have it is at family Christmas when my cousin makes the best i have had. or at my Nana and Poppa's house occasionally.
Wow, what a fresh idea, adding apples to a traditional potato salad. I would have never thought of it, even though I’m a fan of Watergate Salad. I, too, prefer fresh herbs in my salads. Everything about your recipe screams delicious. Can’t wait to try. Thanks a bunch!
Just made this tonight ... absolutely the best. Thoae are Yukon Gold potatoes, i think .. at leat that's what I used. Buttery smooth! Rather than slicing the red onion, I diced it, and it still was fine, Love your recipes, John ... and this is everything you said it would be. YUMMO!
Living outside the USA for one year ! Have tried so many of your recipes and not once have I been disappointed! Peeling boiled egg hint - when they are cooked through drain hot water , leaving three or four Tbs of the hot water bang them around until shells are broken ( the hot water will get a bit under the shell) then fill the pot with ice cubes fill with cold water swirl and that expands the egg shell and in many cases the eggs peel themselves- But sometimes not - but still it makes for a bit less work ! My job in a commercial kitchen was to boil and peel 36 eggs a day - love your program ! (
I always find it fascinating just HOW MANY versions of the humble potato salad that actually exist ... : ] Oddly , or maybe not .. I have been craving potato salad for weeks now ! The honey crisp apple addition is something I have never seen before... looks interesting .. and worth a try !
THANK YOU, I WAS LOOKING ON UTB RECIPES AND YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE, STRAIGHT TO THE POINT, LOOKS GOOD AND I BET TASTE GOOD AS WELL, YOUR CHARISMA IS AWESOME, THANK YOU.
Love your potato salad as this is the same style i do too. Sometimes I add apple, sometimes celery or even cranberries. And eggs, yes - that’s a must for island style potato salad here too.
Today I made it for my family and it's literally the best one we had so far it's so good and delicious and balanced it's literally the best recipe out there everyone should try it. 😍
I did it and it was the best potato salad I have ever eaten!🥰 Sadly I am allergic to dairy, so I switch the sour cream to dill pickle juice and it turn out really good ! Thanks for this tasty salad !
I do eggs in mine & red onions, mayo, grated carrots. & bacon pieces ... Hi from South Australia ( Adelaide ) new subbie... :) Love all your recipes.. :
Just discovered your channel and I’m hooked! You are so genuine and delightful! I made this potato salad last weekend and we loved it! The dill and the sweet pickles gave it such a refreshing taste!! Will definitely make this over and over! Thank you for sharing your recipes!
Making this this weekend. Are they golden potatoes..love that you "lost the bag"...at least the dog did not eat it. You are a natural! Love your Mom..but love the way you responsed to her when cooking with her more..I think my son has adopted your whimsical classy polite conversation style!! Makes me smile.
John! My mom used to make it like this! I always thought it was some kind of Sri Lankan (where I come from) version of a typical Salad but looks like it isn't! I totally agree though this salad is just a meal on its own!
I've never thought to put apples in a potato salad but that actually sounds pretty good! I always like my potato salad on the sweeter side. Definitely going to try this potato salad recipe.
I had never heard of apple in there either, but I'm open to it. I wonder if using jicama would be better (not as viewer friendly as an ingredient I realize).
Thankyou so much. I am making this today, can’t wait to eat it. Always looking forward to your videos. Incidentally I loved the video about your trip to New York with your partner and boys. What great Dads you are ❤️🙋♀️🇨🇦
Hello, dear sir. I follow all your tutorials and I would like to express you my gratitude for your delightful recipes, but as well your way of showing us how you proceed. I admire you. You are very pedagog, a kind of teacher. Actually I am a French teacher living in the French Riviera, Nice. I like your way of speaking, doing, explain, there is a kind of lightness... You are showed really human, you're full of joy and humanity. You are someone very positive. Thank you for being so kind and educational. Sorry for my terrible English.
This looks divine. Perfect for Summer, or a BBQ side! I use some Paprika, and Olives in mine typically. The juice of Spanish Olives is great for Potato Salads.
LOL! Omg HI JOHN ! Thank you for the amazing potato salad recipe, your dishes are always a hit ! The segment of 'Cut the flesh away from the core" LOL! It was chilling yet hilarious at the same time ! Thank you for your content once again, the warmer weather is rolling in so this is the perfect side for any summery meal !
I've been making my grandma's potato salad recipe for the last 2 decades. It's got much of what you use for your potato salad (although I peel the potatoes before boiling them), but the spices and apple, and I've always used regular mustard instead of Dijon. Will have to give your recipe a try, though. It looks yummy!
I always try your recipes knowing that are going to be so delicious! Thank you for sharing with all of us! I tried this yesterday and it was AMAZING!!!
Hola hermosa persona. I love everything you say and do. Thank you for sharing all the good food recipes. I just want to tell you that I made the potatoe salad today and it’s the best ever ever. 🥰🥰🥰thank you
Made this TWICE, and EVERYBODY loves it; today I will try a 'healthier version' now that I've perfected a Japanese (J.) silken-tofu mayonnaise recipe: (500 mg., 2 tsp. olive oil, salt & pepper & brewer's yeast & rice vinegar & lemon juice to taste; plus some dry mustard.) 🎉
John, you simply are the best cook ever. You asked about what type potatoes you used. I'm thinking they are yukons. They come both in baby size and large size, I use both. I could be wrong but from what I looked at, I would say they're Yukon potatoes. I made your recipe and I really loved it. My family didn't care much for them, oh well, they're used to chopped dill pickles, plain on mayo mixed with miracle whip (which I hate). And they hate celery. So from now on, I"ll be making myself my own John's potato salad. I love all the "fresh" items and produced you use. Linda from Texas. Hint: I did make one similar to yours, only difference was the potatoes were backed, covered with olive oil, garlic oil and bacon grese (potatoes unpeeled). I received the recipe from The State Fair of Texas. Everything else in it was the same things you had in yours. Linda from Texas.
I love how you get straight into the video and don’t waste any time
