I'm 19 and from Milwaukee but sad to I've say never seen Laverne and Shirley. I'll marathon it this holiday in her honor. I wish more women were like this today. Beautiful yet tactful. RIP Penny Marshall what a legacy.
Don, you are maybe the best thing on all of RUclips. And gee, Dave really worked hard to win Penny over. I think she was almost starting to come around, by the end.
Well....it was a lot better than Dave's interview with Nastassia Kinski et.al. Wondering if her lukewarm response to Dave, may have come from his bringing up THE SAVAGE SEVEN///@1968.
I thought she might be coming around, too... until she ended the interview by yanking her arm away from a handshake and then literally running out of the studio while Dave was still speaking to her.
She was part of my upbringing. Back then, there were only so many things on the tube....it's funny how it's now a shared experience amongst old dudes like me.
My late mother spent the first forty years of her life living in the Bronx and my late father spent the last 40 years of his life living in the Bronx where he died in 1989. I learned how to walk on the streets of Harding Park in the Bronx in the early 70s. RIP to PENNY MARSHALL, a hilarious hometown girl.
I loved Laverne and Shirley, as a child, As a young boy, i had a crush on penny. Penny was very, opposite to her character that she played, on Laverne and Shirley, she was very shy, private & introverted. She was a great director. Penny you, will be missed!!!😘
They need to have even Number Episodes of Laverne & Shirley with The Numbers of 20 22 24 26 and 28 for Season 1 Season 2 Season 3 Season 4 Season 5 Season 6 Season 7 Season 8 Season 9 Season 10 Season 11 and Season 12 in Milwaukee for The Girls to appear in as Main Characters Together
More so no cuz all the legends are dying off...that's what happens when you got the best run EVER from the 70's to 90's. People have all been dying WAY too early. 2016 took Prince, David Bowie and George Michael ffs...and a shit ton more than year. Fuck 2020, 2016 is the king of a sucktatude. All my heroes died. MY dad in 2014 (which made everyone else not as important lol), roddy piper, ultimate warrior...legends from every facet of entertainment kicking the bucket left right and center...
She was a lovely, cool and incredibly down to earth person. And I miss that natural look so badly. When was the last time you saw a female celebrity on a talk show interviewed in jeans looking so completely casual. Miss that.
I always loved her. Just a normal, nice-looking funny, laid back chill kind of lady. Love the line about her playing an Indian woman with her Bronx accent being the highlight of her career with a sarcastic tone. That's so awesome . Rest in peace.
I love that when they shake hands, she acts confused as to why he's holding on to it XD. Some other girls get confused too, but they try to hide it. She doesn't even try to hide it and she even pulls her hand away
@@EphemeralProductions Letterman probably wanted her to wait so he could say something to her during the station break~maybe he wanted to know if he had offended her. But clearly she was in a hurry to get back to rehearsing "The New Show." It's sad, because he seemed to admire her, and her lack of enthusiasm took him by surprise.
Boy, she did not want to be there. Dave of course was handling it well, he knew he had to fill up the time and tried his best to make it go fast. And Bud Melmans Toast on a Stick commercial is making me hungry for some toast on a stick! God almighty Late Night in the early 80's was some of the best Guerrilla Comedy TV ever.
Happy Days for LEGO Dimensions on Playstation 3 And Xbox 360 to have Fonz Richie Potsie Ralph Laverne Shirley Lenny Squiggy Carmine Mork & Mindy to be Playable without Audio Archive Voice Clips from Episodes so They can be Voiced by Actors & Actresses
A lot of people are saying she just really couldn't stand Dave in all reality it's just a live interview and she was really nervous you can see how vulnerable she is in a life interview
iRider1 Oh, I like the awkward ones, too. But usually the awkwardness is a result of Dave needling the guest a little bit. I haven’t seen many like this where Dave was actually quite solicitous, but the guest just wasn’t having it.
Miss Marsciarelli from the Bronx. Her voice dropped an octave after many years of smoking. She was a real person who was actually more level-headed than her loony tv persona.
Penny Marshall has lefted me confused here. She says she played an Indian in The Savage Seven but she actually didn't play the Indian girl (Marcia) role that was actress Joanna Frank. Penny actually portrayed (Tina) in the film. Unless she didn't remember? 🤔🤨🙄🤷
her net worth was only 5 million less than her brother, which is remarkable knowing how many things that dude was involved with. He was a legend and he was an industry all of his own doing.
Penny has always been so attractive and intelligent, her LaVerne character was an obvious exaggeration . David casually mentions comedian Joel Hodgson who would go on to co-create MST3K.
Uncomfortable interview ending 9:10 Dave held her hand to tight to long she pulled away. She couldn't get out of that studio fast enough. Thank for the Laughter & Love Penny Marshall...RIP
I think she's very pretty/Sexy! And very well built here! She left us too soon. Her brother Gary was a genius! He created a lot of great shows like "Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, He developed Neil Simon's 1965 play The Odd Couple for television in 1970. but it didn't stop[p there.... He is also known for directing _Overboard (1987), Beaches (1988), Pretty Woman (1990), Runaway Bride (1999), and_ the family films _The Princess Diaries (2001) and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004). He also directed WonderBand singer_ _Marcus Violano for the 1994 movie :Blind Love.._ 🤠💖
This is so different from modern female guest appearances, in which women show up dressed trashily and the host talks only about sex and the biggest feature is whether there is a slight wardrobe malfunction.
She nailed the Flashdance sweatshirt off the shoulder look, good ole 1984. RIP Penny
Laid back, cooled out, just takin the time to be there. Not one ounce of pretense or BS. Real class act. RIP.
Love you for this comment, Thank you! 🙏🏼❤️
one thing i always loved about penny was how down to earth she was, never acted like she was something special, just loved doing the work.
...on TV. IRL she was a narcissist. Ask the SNL crew.
@@TransoceanicOutreach lol, i'd ask them if i knew them.

So did you watch any? It was a hilarious show
Pure talent & chill demeanor & no interest in placating Letterman -- refreshingly real was Penny Marshall -- greatly missed😞

@@andyrose5616 Well....Dave was holding her hand TIGHTLY. perhaps an earlier 80s #MeToo?!?
She's absolutely charming and beautiful here.
A good old nice gray sweater and some jeans - sweet, soft and natural !!

Sad when Dave says "it will run long past the time you and I have left this earth".. rip Penny 🙏 ❤️
75 was the checkout age for both her and her co-star Cindy ..much too young
Nice Tribute Don Giller.....Much Appreciated. I put Penny right up there with Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett as physical comedians!
I totally agree with you on that one.
This is why I watch more RUclips than I do modern TV.
This is what happens when 2 very sarcastic people meet.

I first watched them at the age of five and still at the age of forty nine, they’re still just as funny..
Over 34 years later and David Letterman was right! Penny Marshall has left the world and Laverne and Shirley is still going strong!

Andy Rose yeah, she’s like, I’ve got better shit to do😆
She was in the middle of rehearsals for the following night's taping of "The New Show."
