Man, I know this feeling all too well. Whatever you have in the works these days, I pray you continue to find joy in them

Failure is not an option... make art..do it..and redo it till you get what u can..and must..I'm ten movies in ..they have made the roundss globally never did more than 24 k in budgets collectivley..minus sweat equity..but I would never say it's not working..do it and get it done.. learn from your mistakes and make something better..it's a tough art..but repetition makes perfect

Love these type of videos, crazy how different a film's making can be. I had a film which after an entire year of principle photography I decided to cut it off since it was taking too long, I was hating the story, and I wanted to move on from it. Watching this helped me realise some things I gotta look out for too!

I really enjoyed your cinematography in this.

I know that sinking feeling when something happens in the acting department and you're at the point of no return. Next comes the despair of actually watching the footage. Finally the flailing attempts to save it in the edit... a hopeless endeavour with stilted dialogue.

All of that is some of the most important learning curves you can face. Not everything will work, and some things are destined to fail. It's knowing why, that makes us good film makers.

Got a good eye for cinematography for sure. And for a one man jobb, you did great. you showed that you had what it takes to go the distance, regardless of what the quality was... Just as one need to know scripts, directing and so forth, that doesnt do anything if you dont got the guts to go out and film. which you obviously have. And most of all, you can see the mistakes you made. so you probably learned more from this than most people do in filmschool... read all the books on filmmaking you can find, analyze movies and learn structure, characters and dialogue(exposition is a big one to make sure you use right). Keep on making films and you`ll make it, brother.

Great video! I just uploaded my feature film from 2018 that I tried to "save" in the edit. I eventually decided to "Let go" of it and just upload it after all this time. I relate to much of what you were saying and glad more people went through similar situations. Cheers from Iceland!

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Film is very very hard sometimes, and very often they're a reflection of the film maker at the point in their lives. I looked at some of you videos, definitly interesting, so keep it up!

First of all than for the sincerity of this video I learned so much from your experience and i will keep your advice in mind for my own future work. I woul'd also like to know what lavaliers did you use for your movie. Cause I think about investing into some wireless lavaliers too . Do you think it's a mistake ?

Lav Mics are extremely dependent on the scenario. If you have someone on your crew dedicated to monitoring the audio then they're a great addition! But if I had to choose, I'd probably always go for food boom audio first and lavs as a backup or for scenarios where a boom wouldn't work. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, the experience was a massive learning curve for me, but taught me so much!

      Canon C100 Mk2, a mix of lenses, Canon 50mm 1.8, 24mm 1.4, Sigma 10-20mm 3.5 , audio was XLR into camera, using sennheiser lavs and a Rode NTG2 mic

I'm sorry, but even this is unwatchable. I dread to think how torturous the feature might be.

Thanks? 🤣 It's not good and that's kinda the point. Didn't like the RUclips video, fair enough, have any constructive criticism to go with your comment?

@@HarveyBridgewater I think you have a really interesting story and a lot of valuable things to share but it's admittedly a long winded video that can't seem to find momentum in the narration you've provided. I think the person above was being a little bullyish, and I think with more mind paid to the edit and not trying to bite off too much (trust me, I do it too), you have lots to say and clearly have passion and taste in cinema that will guide you to an exuberant something.

If you want to be a filmmaker you need to study. Do everything you can to get into the most prestigious film school in your country. Once you graduate, make shorts till you have MAJOR festival success. At least get in to a top 10 festival. Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Berlin, Toronto etc. Then do it again. Then you might be ready to write your own feature film. Good luck and i'll see u on the festival circuit. You can't fluke talent and talent can't make up for taste.

Maybe stop using alcohol and drugs, admit you have a problem, and get rigorously honest.
