You should of used a high pressure washer with degreaser and then soapy water and wash out the dirt etc inside. Also getting the foam blocks off use a heat gun or hairdryer to heat and soften the abrasive to then pull them off or at least get off easier than scraping with a blade.

Also start small camp in what you have!
Just a thought. You are putting solar on the roof if so then why not put a removable battery pack or packs in the van that way you can take them out and use them outside of the van. Just be handy to use stored power at home when the van isn't being driven around. It would be a waste so to speak having them permanently fitted inside.
