10:56 Chamber Support-you called it! I experienced a blown-out case today at my first range session around 275 rounds. Never experienced one before; it startled me, for sure, but other than a slight burn blister from the blast, no serious injury to report. It blew the baseplate off the mag, sent the follower shooting across the range floor, and dumped the remaining rounds (obvi). Reassembled the mag and function-tested… gun performed fine on remaining rounds, but the slide catch is damaged and won’t lock back. Lifetime warranty doesnt mean much when after 1 year they want you to pay for shipping and their repair work can be hit or miss in terms of quality. This is a new gun design for taurus as well, there are going to be a ton of lemons the first couple of years.
Leave it to GBGuns to find the little nuances other channels missed with the GX4 reviews... with the keychain serving a purpose (same metals BTW), the GX3 engraving, unsupported (fully) chamber, the mag release being reversible, but you did miss it is Teflon coated. I am of the opinion that if you shoot less expensive ammo, or reloads through a defensive gun you're doing it wrong... you should have a single, or two 3.5-4" inch guns that you use a test beds for reloads, or less expensive ammo, with fully supported chambers. None of the 5-6 popular micro-compacts fit this description... all tools serve a particular purpose. What sets this channel apart from the others... rushing through the reviews is not an option. 2-3 videos you can expect from each review... that's because GBGuns does not use T&E guns most of the time, and those have a deadline to return after reviewed. Looking forward to "What's For Dinner"... Tube On!
Thank you for the kind words. We're journalists, not "influencers" and take our reporting seriously. After all someone's life might depend on the firearm they purchase after watching a video.
I go pick up my GX4 in the morning. Hope i can get a few boxes of ammo to go with it!!! The not fully supported barrel is a huge turn off for me as well. All barels should be fully supported. Taurus needs to be made aware.
On the table it looks pretty solid! My negatives so far would be it's not optics cut and ready, and it doesn't come with the extra pinky extension for a slightly bigger mag to account for full three finger contact.
well...hhmmm....the 1/4 turn take down & internal chassis scream Beretta Nano & APX Carry to me; as for my recently acquired G2C...mine is good; while I like what I see with the GX4 (multiple video reviews) my practice is to wait at least 6 months to 1 year before jumping on a newly introduced firearm (eg: many complaints of Sig p365 & Beretta Pico firing pin issues in early examples)
Mine broke after 230 rounds. Sear snapped in half. Taurus charged me 50 to ship it for repair. Only gun company not paying for postage on warranty items. I've purchased 3 Taurus pistols and all 3 broke early on. They work great until failure. Then how do you trust for carry? Waste of money. Save up and buy something else. I bought a canik sc.....awesome.built like a tank.
Question, I noticed when you reassembled the gun and when you pulled back on the slide the take down pin automatically went back in the vertical position. When I repeat the same process my take down pin does not go back in the vertical position, I have to lock the slide back and manually rotate the pin back to the vertical position. The owners manual that came with my gun says to lock the slide back and use a screwdriver to rotate the pin back vertically but there are other youtubers that reassembled their pistol and after pulling back on the slide the take down pin automatically went in the vertical position. Do you think there is a problem with my gun?
I have a gx4 with serious reliability issues. It will not go 2 shots without a failure to feed. I’ve tried multiple brands and styles of ammunition and have run it through a break in period of around 300 rounds with several cleanings. It still has the same problem. I’ll have to contact Taurus
My GX4 has been a good pistol so far with me … 13+1 mag is a must for me … it is what it is .. for a micro-9 it will work .. But I like my G3X a bit better at the range
There's so much to like yet enough to be concerned about. I like its minimalist profile, flat-faced trigger and mag ejection. I'm not in love with that take down that needs a screwdriver. I guess new shooters are OK with this but as someone who has actually had to field strip while under fire I can't trust something that requires me to have a tool. My life is worth way too much for me to carry an unfixable weapon into the field much more for EDC. I might consider it as a BUG. That unsupported barrel is worrisome to me as I use a lot of reloads and with an ammo shortage you can't guarantee that you'll get the type of ammo that this gun likes. The fact that a lot of people report that their gun either came scratched or gets scratched whilst holstering is not great! Perhaps I'll wait for the next model of the GX series. I'm guessing that Taurus will address some of these issues then.
I am new to Your channel. I am a newbie. Excellent video. The opening disclaimer was great!! Your review is excellent! I hope to get one plus a 13rd mag
I got mine 6 to 7 months ago and haven’t have an issue with it at all tried a bunch of different rounds through it and when I bought it they told me to stay away from plus p due to jamming issues
Thank you, sir. Your video is very important. I am in Brazil, the country where this equipment was designed and is now manufactured. We are going through a similar moment, I think it is a continuation of that moment. Here, it is almost impossible for ordinary citizens to buy equipment of this category, because those in power are taking away all of people's rights. Your work is very important, do not allow the American people to give up their fundamental rights. I am able to separate the actions of our leaders from the will of the people, I believe that the American people are not to blame for what is happening to us now, although I am not sure about their leaders either. May the people of America continue to be free, God bless the American people.
The chamber support isn't a worry if it is reliable. Not going to run questionable ammunition in a micro 9, especially questionable +p . Thanks for the tip about the keychain.
@@GBGuns I appreciate your tabletop in-depth reviews. Given that I have seen a few vids of this model blowing out the extractors; I got to wonder if your assessment of the chamber fitting not being good, has cause some of these issues. I try to avoid + p rounds on all of my hand guns, the only exception has been the Sig made M18 + p rounds which I have fired off of my 320 XCarry without issue. The round seems specifically designed for that gun; so I figured it was safe before hand.
My barrel says "GX7" on the bottom where yours says "GX3" ... I'm gonna contact taurus to see what that means. Mine also has a slight lack of chamber support with several factory brands... not as bad as yours, but im never gonna use +P or reloads so not super worried.
Did you ever have any issues with overly tight recoil springs with your Grand Power pistols? Have you learned any tips or tricks for the Grand Power owners?
I had bad experience with springfield, colt and sig sauer i had been collecting guns for years it doesnt matter where its made all manufacturers makes bad designs and model of gun sometimes even U.S. made are flop most times.
I just bought the GX4 yesterday, and after watching your video I checked my barrel and it actually has GX4 engraved instead of the GX3 engraving that yours has. I seated a Federal 147gr hollow point in the chamber and it seems to seat deeper than yours does. Do you think you might have gotten an earlier production unit before they quickly noticed that and made a change? I don't have any Nosler ammo to compare.
Chassis and takedown looks like a mashup of APX and Pico, which is a-ok with me. I didn't see any exposed cross pins, so I'd bet that if you remove the takedown pivot, the chassis will swing up out of the grip. Looks like a really serious effort, but was kinda disheartened by the casehead support situation.
Great review. I can’t understand why a company would knowingly design a gun without a fully supported chamber. Disappointing. Hopefully it’s not a problem but I’m sure it will be.
Why didn't Taurus at least include the pinky extension in the box as opposed to selling it separately. Why include 2 flush fit mag knowing how small the grip is?
my question, being new to modern guns, how many currently-produced guns percentage-wise, have what you would call "fully supprted brass" ? if 95% of modern gun fully support brass, it's a bigger issue than if most guns only suuport 80% of the brass.
You'd have to split that between model numbers and volume. The classic Glocks for example, don't have a fully-supported chamber. It's really only an issue if you want to run reloads, high-pressured loads, or want to reload your brass.
I realize this is an older video but if someone could get back to me about the engraving GX5 on my barrel I'd appreciate it did they start making them with new barrels or did you somehow get a gun with a replacement barrel
This video is one of the earlier production guns, from what I've heard there are multiple barrel markings across production. As you'll see in the second and third video this barrel ended up being problematic, but Taurus replaced it under warranty and the gun now runs great.
I'll wait for the GX4 T.O.R.O. They probably did this by design, they sell as many as they can with out the T.O.R.O. system then get the same people to by with it.
If it uses the same magazine release system as the g2c, g3c, etc. it’s a no go for me. I’ve personally seen three of these guns have the magazine release just fall out. The little nub that stops the magazine release from getting pushed out is butting up against a small plastic ledge so if you exert too much force on the opposite side of the magazine release, it in turn mushes over the ledge that the nub butts up against and the magazine release will just round over the edge of the plastic wall and fall right out. Like I said if you look it up on the internet, quite a few other people have had the same issue. They need to put a steel insert for the magazine release nub to butt up against and this would never happen.. easy fix lol thanks!
I just got one of these and to take it down it takes several pulls of the trigger to get it to dry fire to the point were the slide will release, I'm very new to guns so I'm not sure if it's something I'm not doing right or what. So could it be a problem with the fire arm or me just being dumb lol.
Ours does the same thing. Sometimes it pops right off, other times it feels like I've done something wrong. So much so that I repeated the process several times because it seems sometimes easier to pull the trigger first, other times not.
They have both pinky extension floorplates and an extended magazine. I tried to order one of each but I don't think the Taurus shop website is working. It's been 4 days or so and no email confirmation from them.
Fits my pinkie with room to spare. I hope manufacturers continue to provide options for those with small (actually small) hands. First that I can properly reach the trigger as well without a modified (poor) grip.
The guide rod looks like the same one used in the old 709 and 740 slims they said all the parts where new they did not use any existing parts i think they used the same guide rods and same sights lol
We just had a Guy die in PA. Shooting reloads. He let another guy shoot it and it blew apart. Killed the guy standing next to the shooter. Archbald shooting range
@@obeyt-raw4876 Probably not. Article I read was dated 5/16, said it happened on a Saturday, which would've made it the 15th. Unless he had one prior to Taurus' official release, I doubt it was a GX4...
IT seems like all the current mice pistols have some things that bother me. The Hellcat has accuracy issues. The Ruger seems cheaply made and the trigger is ridiculous. The P365 trigger has no trigger safety & has proprietary rail. Shield Plus is expensive for the optics version, and the Taurus has unsupported chamber and it's slide finish is questionable. I'm on the fence in choosing which one to get.
You refer to it as an "American gun" - distributed, yes, but made in Brazil. 1:12 ~ Also, BRAVO Concealment writer, Eve Flanagan, who links this video in her review of the GX4, erroneously refers to, "Argentina-based Taurus" as the manufacturer.
Nah 👎🏽 I've tried several times with Taurus. The first being a .357 Rossi revolver, manufactured in Brazil, and the next was the PT111. Both had major trigger malfunctions, but as bad as my experiences were, their failed attempt at "C.S" was worse. Hopefully it'll preform for you during "What's for Dinner."
That chamber support is pretty disappointing to see. I'd still like to get one (along with all the micro compacts), but clearly this one won't be getting the cheap stuff.
Thanks again, graham. I know I'm in the minority, but I just can't stomach the idea of buying a striker fired handgun without some form of external safety that isn't in the trigger.
@Andrej Bulechik that's still a safety that can't keep my finger from firing the gun, no different than the Glock trigger safety. If I pull the trigger, gun goes off. No bueno. I train with the manual, external safety and I carry it that way. Gives me one more step before I can take someone's life, you know, seeing as how serious of a decision that is to make...
@@s.vernon5118 triggers get pulled *accidently* all the time. It's called a negligent discharge. That wasn't so hard, was it? 😁 Glock trigger safeties are designed to help mitigate those events. A manual safety that's engaged until you disengage it to fire the gun helps to mitigate that situation even more.

My barrel has GX5 engraving
My Taurus 856 also came with some scratches but its a tool so no worries 💥✌
Looking forward to your range time vid, an thx for the vid.
Wonder why they didn't fully support the chamber??
I go pick up my GX4 in the morning. Hope i can get a few boxes of ammo to go with it!!! The not fully supported barrel is a huge turn off for me as well. All barels should be fully supported. Taurus needs to be made aware.
Hopefully it's a non issue. We'll be looking at the cases in our Shooting Impressions video.
Its like a g3 and tx22 put together but small
Yes, contact Taurus. Their customer service has greatly improved over the years.
My GX4 has been a good pistol so far with me … 13+1 mag is a must for me … it is what it is .. for a micro-9 it will work ..
But I like my G3X a bit better at the range
maybe the GX3 on the barrel means GX 3 inch? it is a 3 inch barrel after all!
Yes that’s what it means, GX for the gun model and 3 for the 3 inch barrel =GX3
Love mine so far
I like your channel because I have XL ~ XXL sized hands.
Our barrel has been replaced since this and the second video. An update will be coming.
@@GBGuns Awesome!
Give it time to see if any recalls , new models especially Taurus I don’t trust blindly
Looks like a great gun to me
That unsupported end of the casing is scary.
Lots of guns are like that just don't shoot reloads out of it and you will be fine. They really should of made it fully supported tho.
I am new to Your channel. I am a newbie. Excellent video. The opening disclaimer was great!! Your review is excellent! I hope to get one plus a 13rd mag
Welcome to GBGuns! We have a Facebook community as well.
@@GBGuns excellent
We don't run questionable ammo either, I'm concerned about the budget-conscious buyer who might.
Taurus told me the markings don't matter. After we shot this (another video) we got a replacement barrel and made an update.
The commercial they ran for it said brazilian manufacture and US assembly.
Did you ever have any issues with overly tight recoil springs with your Grand Power pistols? Have you learned any tips or tricks for the Grand Power owners?
No issues with tight springs, they all use long, uncaptured springs. We have an entire playlist on Grand Powers
Yes, I've been told the markings don't matter, but my barrel was out of spec. We have a new barrel now and it chambers 9mm correctly
You about ready to give us the shooting impressions and more info on the unsupported chamber???
Yes, our Patrons have been watching it. It'll likely go public this week.
If they release a Toro model that competes with the 365 XL or 365X I'm interested
I would guess the scratch happened by the keychain during the shipping process.
That's what I was thinking.
They should've had a tiny holster for it. 😉
Great review, I think I'll go with SIG p365 , cause I want p+ammo
I cant get my gx4 to feed ammo i just bought it its brand new every single time i rack it the bullet gets stuck
G3c upper tx lower and take down like a spectrum
Awww it comes with a baby gun😳🤣✌
Great review. I can’t understand why a company would knowingly design a gun without a fully supported chamber.
Disappointing. Hopefully it’s not a problem but I’m sure it will be.
Made in Brazil. But looks like a good gun. I might get one
Why didn't Taurus at least include the pinky extension in the box as opposed to selling it separately. Why include 2 flush fit mag knowing how small the grip is?
No clue. We'll see if my order ever processes
my question, being new to modern guns, how many currently-produced guns percentage-wise, have what you would call "fully supprted brass" ?
if 95% of modern gun fully support brass, it's a bigger issue than if most guns only suuport 80% of the brass.
You'd have to split that between model numbers and volume. The classic Glocks for example, don't have a fully-supported chamber. It's really only an issue if you want to run reloads, high-pressured loads, or want to reload your brass.
I have a Taurus GX4 is the slide catch supposed to lock without a mag mine doesn’t lock in place unless i have an empty mag in it
It should if you're lifting on the slide lock while pulling it back.
If it is PRODUCED IN THE USA then why does it say under the barrel just in front of the trigger gaurd
"MADE IN BRAZIL/BAINBRIDGE,GA?"
It's assembled in the US
Atleast these came out good the first try the sig p365 is a failure when it first came out
I realize this is an older video but if someone could get back to me about the engraving GX5 on my barrel I'd appreciate it did they start making them with new barrels or did you somehow get a gun with a replacement barrel
This video is one of the earlier production guns, from what I've heard there are multiple barrel markings across production. As you'll see in the second and third video this barrel ended up being problematic, but Taurus replaced it under warranty and the gun now runs great.
@@GBGuns thanks appreciate you getting back to me and so quickly and definitely answered my question glad I subscribed
WHERE IS THE RANGE REVIEW?! Graham you are killing us! 😉
Patrons saw it last week. General public is live now
Oh I gotcha, just saw it! Thanks again!
Taurus: “Just put it in the box, he won’t notice that scratch.”
I'll wait for the GX4 T.O.R.O. They probably did this by design, they sell as many as they can with out the T.O.R.O. system then get the same people to by with it.
You should do a video on the Steyr A2 pistols!
But that price! Not enough income at the moment
Will the g2c mags fit this
No
Sux they didn’t put a rail for a light but for a Cary gun I can live with out that.
Is that something I should contact the manufacturer or the place I bought it from about?
@@Bass_the_Viking I'd contact the manufacturer. Mine isn't terrible, just not predictable.
If Taurus makes it with a pistol grip that fits the pinkie that will be a great pistol
They have both pinky extension floorplates and an extended magazine. I tried to order one of each but I don't think the Taurus shop website is working. It's been 4 days or so and no email confirmation from them.
@@GBGuns I've yet to see anybody with them. They might be vaporware at the moment but coming to fruition soon
@@EvanDickersonM81 yeah it's a bit annoying rhat I was able to add to cart and checkout and then....nothing.
My barrel says GX5 on the under side
We just had a Guy die in PA. Shooting reloads. He let another guy shoot it and it blew apart. Killed the guy standing next to the shooter. Archbald shooting range
A Taurus GX4 was used?
@@obeyt-raw4876 Probably not. Article I read was dated 5/16, said it happened on a Saturday, which would've made it the 15th. Unless he had one prior to Taurus' official release, I doubt it was a GX4...
@@chaburchak I'm not sure what pistol Was used. Just an article about reloads and accidents.
Ove noticed most Taurus slides scratch and mark easily
The Trigger looks like there logo rotated down slightly.
Orders are always in “pending’ state. Takes several days. Even though they a;ready take it out of your bank account
What happened to Megadeth ???? Always good buddy 👍👍👍👍👍
Even though we notified the band, we gear further crackdowns on RUclips
That chamber support is pretty disappointing to see. I'd still like to get one (along with all the micro compacts), but clearly this one won't be getting the cheap stuff.
Very informative, Sir. Especially your comment on Plus P ammo. I don't have this gun but do have the Taurus G3C..Don't plan use plus P in that gun.
You have to do what is best for you . I just can't think of a situation where i pull the trigger of a gun and don't want it to fire.
@Andrej Bulechik Yeah, its kinda hillarious but at least they have good intentions. Interesting philosophy but good intentions..
@@s.vernon5118 triggers get pulled *accidently* all the time. It's called a negligent discharge. That wasn't so hard, was it? 😁
Glock trigger safeties are designed to help mitigate those events. A manual safety that's engaged until you disengage it to fire the gun helps to mitigate that situation even more.
@Andrej Bulechik I would hope that my taking care in the decision to take a human life isn't what's funny to you 🤔
No size comparison to the p365 or the hellcat? Why does it seem like everyone is allergic to doing this...
Because it's pointless. The specs are posted, and how it feels to you, fits in your hand is something only you can answer.
Exactly the same size as p365
@@ozzyosbourne826 if you go by the specs the GX4 is taller and longer with both having flush fit mags with the 13 rd mags it's just as tall as the G2c.
@@timtaylor1483 but the difference is so minute , it’s hardly noticeable, .. there are a couple of comparisons on here , where they hold them both together and the difference is so small, it all boils down to preference on which one YOU like best
@@ozzyosbourne826 I agree
Of you lose that keychain, you should look for a screwdriver. 🤔
Or a piece of brass
@@GBGuns yep, gun owners do not carry extra items for their gun. This may affect selling
Great reliable gun taurus g4x for me much better than p365 and 43x
🔥👌💪💯
Is it me, or does pulling the trigger while it's in battery to disassemble seem dangerous? Keep it pointed in a safe direction.
🤣
