met wilbert in the mid 70s in a bar in newark nj, he and i had a beer and he sang kansas city a few times and he joked around with a light bulb that would light when he put in on peoples heads, today his son wibert harrison jr came in my record store looking for a 45 record of kansas city on fury label, i had one, we listened to it and he rememberd his dad with storys, it was a pleasure meeting him as well as his dad, days like this make me glad i kept my record store open.....
I've loved Wilberts music for soooooo long. Never seen him though. I can't believe RUclips. This is so great...I can't stand it! LOL Everyone from the past I type in is on here. Too bad somebody doesn't have "video" of let's work together. Kansas City though.....will live on in infamy. R.I.P. Wilbert...you should have got more respect cause you are always "in the pocket"
What a great sense of rhythm. love his piano playing and his voice sounds really neat. Wish he also did or combined the earlier version Price had to censor with the newer version..... thanks for posting... love Wilbert Harrison
Wilburt has a unique voice. It recorded well and he had two huge hits, "Kansas City" and years later "Let's WOrk Together." Was active till the end of his life (for a while he appeared as a one-man-band, with harmonica rack, guitar and drum kit)..
Driving version of a old song with many variants. Lloyd Price, Mississippi John Hurt , Furry Lewis, Tom Rush, Fred Waring, Youngbloods, Amy Winehouse and many more. ;)
@psychkoala That's true of many black singers who grew up in the South. If you think of Solomon Burke, Percy Sledge, and of course Ray Charles, there's a little bit of country in all of them. Also, the song really is an old blues song, going back to the 20s I think.
Just think how far this is from the plastic auto-tuned, industrial clone "music" that dominates the charts. one take, all professional. hot and soul ful. when did they decide to talk real pain out of the music?
Sir or Madam: you have a most splendiferous user name. I mention this partially because I was over at the RUclips help forum and some nozzle was complaining that all the good user names were taken. LOL
Ja aber das war auch noch so oft und wie du willst mit der schule in den letzten Monaten und noch nie wieder zu lesen ist und ich nicht weiß wie ich die anderen sagen kann und das
I love the cigarette smoldering in the ashtray.Authentic 50s/60s!

Brilliant! It was the Clash song 'Wrong em Boyo' which first introduced me to this song.....

Got this in a playlist, funny, the more I watch this guy the cooler he gets... there's some kind of quiet bad-ass-ness about him.
Yes jesse- you said it very well..there is indeed a quiet unique way and " quiet bad- ass-ness about him" i like him now!!
@@earlwest3502 A comment from 2011... sheesh... that was a lifetime away. ...And yet only yesterday.
Just great!. Greetings from Miami.
Had never heard this song before... Explains the premise for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' song of the same name.
Doesn't have to have a great flashy appearance although he's handsome the sound is absolutely great
Certainly was a fine looking man Phyllis...x
Glorious!

I don't know, but I think I like Wilbert's version better. One-man-band for the win!
Thanks for putting this clip in the Cloud.
Great artist . Never got his props .
It was going great, till that sudden ending... :-(
It was a worse abrupt ending on the Kansas City recording from the same film. Wish I could find where this comes from. I have searched.
