Omg, I love how he was super paranoid about Ellen running into everything and she's just sitting there looking so unimpressed. XD Lmao, this was really cool though.
@@bucsfranchise2704, you also made a lot of grammatical errors in your sentence like capitalizing the first letter, adding an apostrophe in "can't" or even ending your sentence with a period. Also, getting an A does not necessary requires you to have knowledge of grammar and spelling. I have many friends that have PhD degrees that don't even know how to write, but are good at what they are doing such good at math, science, computer programing, etc. For instance, my grammar isn't really good, but I can draw and paint really good and I am in college.
He was talking about the type of railway that was straight. There are plenty of superconductor tracks like the circular one, but only one version of the straight one he showed first
Hahahahaa .. Lol! I'm glad someone up top of comments is mentioning it .. I was really surprised not to see Elllen laughing at that sound. It looked like she wanted to but she was holding back the whole time. Not sure what is happening with her ATM. Hope all is well with her. But yeah tubas warming up is perfect👌
ya0sef I believe the speed he said can only be reached in a partial vacuum since at that speed, the drag forces would pretty much be impossible to overcome.
The problem is that we're nowhere near a room-temperature superconductor (and it may or may not even be possible), so we're stuck with ordinary magnetic repulsion, which isn't nearly as stable and awesome. With two regular magnets, you have to perfectly line them up to make 'em float. Superconductors work like magic, as you can see in the video, and you could just have a line of electromagnets as your "track" turned on in very quick succession with no moving parts getting you moving at incredible speeds. I just read a story a few months ago by Greg Egan called "Zero for Conduct" (soon to be collected in _The Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of the Year - Volume 8_) where this Afghani high school girl in Iran develops the first room-temperature superconductor.
Thank you @ellenshow for everything you do. This show helped take my moms mind off of her terminal illness and gave her reasons to smile and see that there is good in this world. I wish nothing but the best to you and your families.
does she not like him? i wonder why she looks ... bothered? like if I had to ride one of those I would be stoked.. but I guess everyones different? ...
It was actually Steve, he literally jumped off his to stop here from crashing, and she just sat there unimpressed, and not even caring or being grateful.
Why does she look so bored and uninterested in his science experiments? Even at the end, with those cool hover chairs, she quickly did her final speech at the end of the show and then immediately started to get off the chair just as the video ended, as if she couldn't wait to get off that hover chair. Maybe it's supposed to be her "humour", but if it is, I don't think she's being funny at all.
@Max Brewster that's because you dont know Ellen the show is an hour long they don't just spend the whole hour on it they had other plans. So everything is planned out. Also, in case you didn't notice she was focusing on his experiment the whole time.
I think she gets nervous cause she doesn't know what he's going to come up with. And she might get mildly frustrated cause she doesn't fully understand how some of his tricks work (some people go 'wow', some go 'wtf i don't understand')
Why does Ellen always seem so bored and unimpressed by Steve? It's like she's trying to do the science daytime version of late night talk show hosts being afraid of animals, except it's not funny. That levitating superconductor "train" is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time, and those chairs look really fun. He made Ellen her very own hovercraft and and just sits there and with a sarcastic "this is ridiculous" expression on her face. It's not like _she_ never acts somewhat odd and/or ridiculous (it's part of why people love her). When you're being shown things that are amazing and genuinely interesting, and the person showing you is excited and super happy about being able to share it with you, the "I'm bored and your antics embarrass me" straight-man act stops being funny. She just comes off as rude.
SgtPiggie I guess she thinks it's funny. Or maybe she's truly being rude because the producers are forcing her to have him on since he's so popular. I agree - if she's going to be that way the whole time, why keep bringing him back. On another point, her popularity has given her considerable influence, especially with young women. Yet her attitude here contributes to the negative mentality towards science & learning in the US, where evidently even the most fascinating, dynamic presentation from a dude who really knows his stuff can be seen as boring & irritating.
SgtPiggie At that level, talk shows have a huge team including writers, producers, directors, etc. and the "talent" (Ellen) is under contract. She definitely doesn't have full control of the entire show. She may have more creative control compared to the industry standard, I don't know, but even if her contract states she can veto any guest, they can make it hard for her to use that power (because it would piss top people off or create a tense working environment). To be clear though, that was just one idea I had for why they would continue to bring Steve on the show. It could be various other reasons.
+Privacy Lover Because superconductor has been known for decades. In fact Germany Japan and China has been using these Maglev trains for commercial transport at least 10 years. Its interesting how uninterested Ellen looks when Steve's at Ellen's.
+Quesy Cake Yeah, i think she just goes with the flow and just agrees with everything lol
Or shes trying to focus on what he says
I specifically looked at comments to see how many others thought the same thing lol these are cool tricks
I never watch Ellen, but thought the same. He just took over being so enthusiastic, and she was just bored. I've been there
its most likely because she has absolutely no idea what hes talking about.
6:10 This is exactly the same noise my girl next door makes when she plays the tuba. (She plays it every evening 8pm.)
