There is actually a type of shotgun that is cheaper than even the Maverick 88 on average. You can find them pretty easy too. Most bolt action shotguns can be found at around the $125-$150 mark. They come in just about every gauge on the market. And if you are on a budget while still wanting to protect your home, I wouldn’t turn away from them. I own a Mossberg 16 gauge I found at a gun store for $150. She hasn’t jammed or failed me yet.
Good video. I have the maverick security shotgun. It's the best. Shot over 500 rounds in the the shotgun. No problems, shot bird shots,00 's slugs, steel ammo and 3 in. Magnums. 👍
Excellent video as always... The 7 shot Maverick 88 has been my home defense gun for years, it was 219.00 at Academy Sports and runs perfect.. A few months ago bought the JTS AK12 for 279.00 at PSA which has functioned perfectly so far and has the lightest recoil of any 12 gauge I have experienced so far... About the same time I also bought a Hatfield 28" semi auto at walmart for 214.00 and a Dickinson 20" semi auto for 250.00 both of which ran good with heavier loads but I enlarged the gas ports so now they function with light loads... A few days ago I ordered a 20" Citadel Warthog from Grab a gun for $169.00 which seem to get mostly good reviews and I assume it will need a gas port mod to function with lighter loads but that's okay... The Citadel looks almost exactly like the Dickinson....
The Maverick is a great gun for sure, but it is not the best bang for the Buck. For home defense and hunting for example, many of the Turkish shotguns are as good or better and at least come with with drilled receivers and chokes. I have the Winchester SXP in 18" and never looked back. Light weight for easy carry in the rough terrain I hunt in. Choked out for Deer, Turkey, small game etc. Easy to add a red dot or any kind of sight and totally well built and reliable. Also the balance is much better than the 88. It also is much easier to shoot with the pump assist. and a lot more fun. I 88 now sits in a closet. I do have the Mossberg 500 in 20ga which gets a lot more action for just cylinder bore, light shooting. I have a rifled barrel for that gun and has taken quite a few deer.
Tristar raptor is fairly reliable and cycles everything. I got mine in 20gauge just before the pandemic buying for about $300. It was a youth model for the mrs. works great over 2 yrs later.
I am a shotgun fan. Have many, Beretta, Benilli, Mossberg etc. I bought the Panzer M4 based on friends from my Club. And I have to tell you, it runs and runs and runs. One of the best deals I have made in my decades of being a firearm enthusiast. Thanks for the reviews, keep up the great work.
I keep going back and forth on whether to get a Panzer M4 as my first shotgun. I've shot a semi-auto shotgun before and want something nice and smooth like the Benelli M4, but I dont have Benelli money. Would the Panzer M4 be a good option for me?
James Reeves at TFBTV has done 500-rd torture tests on several Turkish semi-auto shotguns and they all performed miserably. Not just malfunctions; some broke down internally and couldn't be fired without professional repairs. His Maverick 88 pump performed flawlessly. His conclusion is that cheap (under $500 or so) semi-autos are trash, but there are some good pumps under $250.
I would submit for consideration the Dickinson 212 as well. Good reviews for a $300 Semi Auto HD gun. I picked up a trade in at my LGS for $225. Haven’t shot it a bunch yet but it’s quite nice for the money if you’re on a budget.
The maverick 88 is easily the best shotgun in this video. There’s been a lot of videos the firearms blog being one of the big producers of torture test featuring Turkish shotguns they generally don’t hold up. The Stevens, The maverick, those are great options please avoid the semi automatic Turkish stuff.
My mom bought me a maverick 88 as my first gun when I was 13. First gun I hunted with and it's the same gun that now defends my wife, house and baby on the way
Would you recommend it for a beginner? I’m looking to buy my first gun and I want a shotgun but I know nothing about them and worried recoil will be hard to control. I want to move up later on but right now I want something simple or easy
@@Icy_Pumpkin there is a variety of low powered shells you can get to start in you are recoil sensitive. I'd go to a range or ask somebody to shoot theirs first and see what works best for you. It really depends on what you are look for (hunting, home defence, etc) 12 gauge is great but you can always get a 20gauge as well

Glad to see the Stevens 320 on here - everyone always talks about the Mav 88 but I think the Stevens is a better shotgun and is usually a bit lower in price.
I've had my Stevens 320 since 2013 and it's a pretty good shotgun. Low recoil uses 3" magnums and apparently the price hasn't changed in the past 10 years
PLEASE do a .410 ga Home Defense Shotgun Review, Testing, etc.! You've done a Ba-Zillion 12ga reviews, but there are literally MILLIONS of us who are older, and/or impaired, who CANNOT handle the recoil of even the mildest recoil operating 12ga, or 20ga, and so .410 ga is the only one left for us in real world terms (ammo availability, especially in Home Defense rounds). I've been trying to find a Hatsan AR-15 Style .410 anywhere here in the US (they DO market their 12 ga guns all over the place and they DO make a .410 ga AR), which chambers the 3" rounds as well as the 2.5" (sadly, the IDIOTS are Bear Creek brought out their .410 AR but it ONLY chambers a 3" if HAND FED.....mags only accept 2.5"....utter IDIOCY) in 17 round mags. Please think OUTSIDE the Box! Cheers from the Oil Patch in Central WY
I know they are more old fashioned compared to what is shown in the video. But what about bolt action shotguns. You can find a good dependable bolt action for around $150. They come in most gauges and they were mass produced for decades. They were only phased out because of the pump action. I’ve got a Mossberg 190 16ga. and she still works. Good old American Made craftsmanship, and she can still make Swiss cheese outta any target. Sure compared to modern shotguns they have there shortcomings. But for $150 I’ll just adapt to it and make it work.
The phrase "budget auto loader" is right up there with hepatitis in the things that should be avoided category. Semi auto shotguns are pay-to-play and the 930 is the budget option for them.

Man I swear you must be the only one I know with a good JTS . Mine broke 100 in to it my buddies broke couple months later. But I 💯 with you on the other 3.
The JTS is the least reliable gun I've ever seen. Mine didn't technically break, but it doesn't feed properly, never did. I'm not gonna put the money into having a gunsmith fix it, if it can be. I will say it does shoot soft, probably because it weighs twice what my 1301 does, lol. It's the last gun I would recommend to anyone looking for a budget option. I can't even recommend it as a gimmick because the frustration of all the malfunctions.

Love the Maverick 88. Might easily be the best gun for the money out there.
I believe it's a huge value.
It's on my list. They're actually cheaper here in the UK than Turkish shotguns so it's a no brainer
