Great tutorial. I'm such a noob, my sky kept not showing up, but it was because I was in orthographic view instead of perspective the whole time. I couldn't see my sky, just the ground color.
I have noticed that in the Render Setup Menu, you have the tabs on top and the drop down menu's and the render button on the bottom. In my 3ds max, I have the opposite layout (Target, Preset, renderer, and render button on the top and the rendering tabs and options on the bottom. How did you switch their positions?
gaivskakashi nvm i had another system created by accident GREAT TUTORIAL i like how you force people to learn everything about the settings rather than just show them how to get the final product.

It seems as good as vray.
is there a way to animate the water?
gaivskakashi oddly enough, the mental ray water "ocean lume" is already animated. If you render the animation the waves will change over time =)
NICE!!! Excellent tutorial.
Clint DiClementi
Ocean Lume? so the plane that you used to become water.. the mental ray render-er makes it animated by default?
