    Hi my friend. The channel is excellent. Just seen the part where your looking for some people to work for you. Well I can only say. It's a shame I'm now 64 and work for Cosworth as an engine builder. Iv'e work for them in the early years in F1. Then left and went back to aviation. Now I'm back at Cosworth.. and I'm a Porsche nut having had seven. And restored most especially my 911sc 1982. I used to work on a lot of the porsche club cars for friends. And I'm just having my garage extension done and a two post lift fitted. Anyway enough waffle from me...just wanted to say. Well done my friend
    Love the channel. Keep up the great work. And maybe one of these days, I'll be buying a lovely 996, 4s from you.. kind regards Bob Rose. Northampton.

    I am not surprised 996’s are sold as soon as you post them. These cars are beautiful and they are if not one of the most significant cars in the history of Porsche. This is the only 911 that doesn’t look like every other 911. The design still looks good to this day and looks like something that could still be offered on the showroom floor. This is the time to grab one of these because they will never be this affordable anymore. C2’s,C4,4S and turbo models are already seeing a serious uptick in prices compared to the last few years. 🤙

      Pinky Lai nailed the design of the 996 perfectly! If you haven't watched the interview of him by the Nine Eleven Guy, make sure you do. It's gold! I find those who continue to bag the 996 as the only Porsche ever with flaws quite funny now. Narrow minded and prejudiced, trying to sound like knowledgeable experts when they just sound like they're in some kind of repetitive time warp.

      @@usynnstradler he designed the 996, so definitely the 996.1. Don't know if he was the designer for the changes in the 996.2, but apart from the headlights and engine, the changes were minor.

    My new to me ‘99 996 has the 014 Sports options package.
    Great spec with:
    030 Sports suspension
    220 LSD Limited Slip Differential
    and 375,376 Sports Seats.
    Really enjoy watching your videos in the USA.

    Very impressed by the thoroughness of your preps. My comment: when you sell them, please include the price in US dollars. That would make many of us happy to hear what you sell them for in the UK and the US. I am an avid watcher of your videos. I own a 2001 911 996 Carrera 4. Always looking for an upgrade.

    As a 996 owner I find these videos very informative. Question for Luke or anyone else who would like to comment. Why does supporting the engine in the way shown with the transmission removed stress the engine mounts? Is it because the mounts are being compressed too hard? Also with the number of 996’s being serviced here I would’ve expected some mention of cold start up rattles and need to replace the timing chain tensioners.

      The engine is only held in with mounts at the back of the car, the front facing end of the engine is supported by the transmission mounts and the transmission. I believe stress testing it in that way puts more torsional forces on the mounts, as they probably aren't quite in their normal position.

    Hey Luke. You mentioned on inspecting the blue Porsche it had a leaking RMS, but you did not mention it on the list of things done to it on completion. I doubt you forgot to do it but just forgot to mention it. Right?
    This is an earlier video than I have seen. Dan is no longer there and Ollie got hired off your video add? You only just have one mechanic at a time?
    I can't believe that guy spent £26k on that car and never renewed the mounts. You can really feel a difference when done. I had to renew mine on my e320.

    Great video as usual. How did you start the car at the end of the video (to demonstrate the exhaust) without putting your foot on the clutch?

      Thanks Bruno. 996s don't require the clutch pedal to be pressed while starting the engine in the UK.

    What is the price of doing that pinion gear? I have a '99 C4 that has that sound.

      Mine also started showing symptoms of failing (2000 c2). I continued to drive the car until the noise got quite loud, and finally stopped when I was kicked out of second gear while driving. My research suggests that you'll be better of buying a new transmission, rather than replacing the bearing, which would require lots of professional equipment and custom tools. I'm in the process of swapping the transmissions, I ended up buying a rebuilt tranny from cogs cogs.

      I had that issue as well with a C2 LSD, ended up replacing with another LSD transmission. I would expect $4-5K, but will be different for a C4.

    How do people buy the cars before they've even been listed? Do you text out new cars to a subscriber list or something and whoever phones up gets it? How does it work?

      Hi, thanks for your question. We have lots of people email and call every day asking what cars are going through prep and often these cars get reserved prior to being ready for advertisement.

    unfortunately the 99-2005 have bad engines, bore scoring, cant be fixed have to rebuilt engine. The GT and Turbo versions are exempt as they had the previous air cooled pistons and cylinders.

      Hi 31acruz, it is actually the 2005-2008 Gen 1 997 that people predominantly worry about bore scoring with, but in our humble opinion it is an exaggerated issue.

    Have you noticed if these rare situations have coincided with the cars that have ab LSD? Just a thought. As you said, not many folks order the LSD, so maybe because of that, you don’t encounter the whine very frequently.

      My pinion bearing, failed and I own a car without the lsd, so I'd say it could be both. I know of other non-lsd c2s with this problem as will.

      Harrison thanks for the feedback! Was just a thought. I was thinking that maybe the LSD was putting additional stress/load on the input shaft. How expensive was the repairs for the bearing set? Just looking at getting my first 911 (996) and I’m trying to get an idea of how much some repairs would cost. The 911s are not really that pricey to repair/maintain especially for commonplace issues, I.e. water pump, AOS, coolant hoses and oil changes. Most of this can be done by the owner if you’re willing to get your hands a bit dirty!

      @@medic53067 After visiting several local Porsche mechanics, I was told that it would be cheaper to buy an entirely new transmission, so that's the route I took. I was able to source a rebuilt transmission with new bearings, syncros, and 1st/2nd gear assemblies from Cogs Cogs transmission repair for ~3000. Right now I'm actually in the process of installing the new transmission in my garage, I don't have the money to do that professionally, which would be at least another 1000. Ideally this should never happen to your car, like they said its pretty rare; I certainly didn't expect to have to go down this path. Don't let this turn you off though, 996's are great drivers cars, and although parts are expensive, you can cut prices in half if you're willing to do the work yourself.

      We have had both non-LSD and LSD cars with the whine. I haven't noticed a correlation. I'll ask the expert from the gearbox company in the video if the LSD would cause more strain the next time I see him.

      Friends Green Porsche just a thought. Could be no correlation at all. It could be a bad batch of bearings ( that hasn’t happened before! HAHAHA) Just wondering. It certainly would not deter me from buying a PCar with an LSD!
      What’s your opinion on rebuilding vs replacing with a used/rebuilt unit?

    13:18 What kind of ‘specialist’ believes the 3.6 engines don’t have ims bearing failures! A specialist to avoid, would be nice to know who.

      Hello Beautiful World. We agree and upgrade the IMS bearings in all 3.4 and 3.6 litre 996s as a standard course of practice. I’m sorry, I don’t feel it would be appropriate to name the business who stated the 3.6 litre 996 engines don’t suffer IMS issues. Thank you for watching our video.
