- Let's put the theory to the test in the Victoria High Country, how good is the BYD Shark 6 in the Victoria High Country and does it keep up with other 4WD vehicles?
The Sharks traction systems seem so unpredictable , not sure I would feel safe/confident off-road.
lol cool story
Yeah it has way too many modes
@@SouthEastofdingopisscreek I am going to have to agree with you here, while it’s unpredictable and with a lot of software torque limiting it can put you in a situation that could have been totally avoided. It needs work, the hardware is there - the software while improved over pre production models still needs a bit of work to be trustworthy on the tracks.
Hello from Katoomba 😊 I'm really starting to like this channel. Great content and well edited and very informative . I have some ideas I would like to see in future videos with the BYD. Thank you for the entertainment
@@Peter_Monti thanks!
CarExpert might need to redact their Shark review. Seeing what the owners are doing with their own car is not looking good for their credibility. Bless that durometer test though.
I'm pretty sure CarExpert lost all credibility a long time ago! No real appreciation of where the market was or where it was heading, wonder how many people lost money buying outdated fossil cars due to CarExpert!
@@DavidS-wm9udrelax mate, this is just still hybrid. $2000 for a major service, 10litres per 100km when not in EV. It’s better than diesel for most but not the absolute best. Still needs plenty of development
@@lengerer You are dribbling rubbish @lengerer. All Shark service costs were reduced a few weeks ago and now average $550 with 20k service intervals. I've done over 3000km and average under 7L/100. On the highway it is 9L/100 for long trips with full fuel and battery. Local driving is under 4L/100.
@lengerer Perfectly relaxed, looks like you're the one fretting ;-) Spinning off a bunch of balderdash like that you'd think you were KRudd's buddy! 😂 $2000 for a service?!? How?!? Battery requires no service and standard little gasoline motor shouldn't be any more expensive to service than a corolla. As for mileage, nice try but reality is closer to 2L/100km when battery is above 25% and 7.9L/100km when battery is below 25%. And let's be honest, most people only do 40-50kms per day on average so will likely literally charge off solar and never bother with gas except for long road trips. Literally blows up old fossils! Time for you "Merchants of Doubt" to take a hike, we're not dumb anymore, energy independence matters!
@@Johnno1979 you said outdated fossil fuel cars…… you’re literally driving a fossil fuel car. It’s a step in the right direction but it ain’t as good as you make out.
Wait until the updated shark comes out next year, blade 2 battery will have 120km ev range and 2 litre engine will be more efficient and won’t rev its nuts off to keep charge
Be good to have a list of what mode suits what type of terrain best as some modes look to be good across a few types of different terrains.
@@BrizBiker it’s strange there are modes for the situation but sometimes you have to use 2 seperate modes for 1 obstacle if it’s reasonably extreme eg, both a front and rear wheel both off the ground with steep climb combination. I will try and make a video about this, but in this long version coming I do play with the modes and explain what I think is happening and physically showing the result on the track.
Looks like a absolutely awesome trip
@@jasonfields2793 was good 👍
I noticed you using the 2 tow points. Are these strong enough for snatching? They do seem pretty solid. I was looking at getting a rated tow point for the tow bar.
@@Johnno1979 these are not rated but they go through the bar and are pinned, I am happy to use them for static recovery, just not a snatch or kinetic recovery.
What a tease! whats the seceret?!? :P
@@peacemakermotion3949 that torque limit is a problem, but you simply go through different modes to find the right one, on Blue Rag it was muddy terrain until software torques you out, then switch to sand mode and away you go ;) it’s so bizzare. Sand mode allows wheel slip and minimal traction control but it has better allowance for torque output it seems.
What A/T tyre size did you settle for?
@@sladewilson2379 275/70/18 the main reason is because it’s 5% bigger and fixes the speedo to be exactly 1:1 with the GPS measured speed. Could have gone 285/70/18 and I think it would have still been fine.
Huh, seems like sometimes the TC would just... not send power? There definitely is some tweaking to do on BYD's part. I think this is their first offroad focused platform, still somewhat immature.
Most things could probably just be fixed with software, but I would definitely feel more confident here if I could put a limited slip diff or a locking diff in the front or rear, Especially with all around independent suspension.
BYD Bao 5
@ Yep, that's what I want. I currently have an order it for the shark, but if they release the Bao 5 before I receive it. I'm gonna swap it straight away.
@ If you take a look at the tear down videos, it looks like the half shafts goes straight to the "power box" (seems like the motor and diff is a self contained unit). Doubt you could swap out the diff easily with those.
@AlyxMSC manufacturers generally don't reinvent the wheel so you're most likely find a standard ring and pinion gear inside. If it's like most other combined Drive units though you'd probably have to drop whole thing out and split it in half
1:27 Not dirty enough, try harder 😂
@@user-fed-yum I didn’t want it this dirty at all, pain to clean, asking for mud in places you don’t want, but had to know high voltage system wouldn’t malfunction incase this is a situation in the future.

Mud Shark😍
first!
Looks like a toy compared to real trucks.
@Kiwi_Dave well yeah. It is a ute after all. We use a Unimog for powerline works. Now that's a truck.
