Never gets old I have been coming back to your videos for sooo long and you are just the best jazz pianist doing these tutorials!!! Happy thanksgiving!
I love how there are people around here who are willing to put so much effort into making a tutorial like this! I really appreciate it, I want to learn some songs so I can play them during christmas :P
Love your arrangements!! you are one of my favorite musicians!! I have played classic piano all my life and I am having a great time by learning your so delightful music.
Hey Roger, you really helped me out tonight! I was looking for some inspiration on how I wanted to play this tune. Not only did I get the inspiration I needed, but I "stole" a few sweet chords from you. LOL Please keep up the awesome playing! I could listen to you all day brother! God bless ya! (Houston, TX)
L2L - Your whole style is so well resolved. You seem to be able to direct your energy toward the musicality because your technique is so coordinated. Thanks for these brilliant pieces.
This is definitely a tutorial it shows you what he's playing cords and then the midi on top. People are just to lazy to get back to keyboard and study.
This sir is absolutely amazing! Every but of it was fantastic. I so want to learn this song now! I just finished learning George Winston's carol of the bells. And working on uploading it. This isn't next song! Thank you for making such amazing videos. Happy holidays! :)
if to simplify, bass usually plays the roots of the chords. for example, if it is an E7 - the bass plays E, if it`s Cmaj - the bass plays C... of course there are many ways to sophisticate this..
@whitesnake2859 Thanks for your comment. I am putting together a DVD Volume 2 of my videos which will allow you to slow them down using Windows media player. Volume 1 is available on my web site but does not contain this particular video.
I REALLY ENJOYED your playing on this! And watchin it with the chord progressions going by is fantastic....I am trying to pick up the ideas that you are laying out in your playing....is there a way to slow it down?? I try to pause it...but alot of times i miss the notes on the above piano...and i can't make out the extended/modern chord you are playing vs...the plainer one that is shown. Any ideas would be appreciated!
@dinosaursandi Mark Levine: The Jazz Theory Book. Well... you do need the basics to learn from this book. But if you're done with this, you are able to perform in New Jazz style. It's not that hard to understand.
Do you use Band-in-a-Box for your videos? I have the 2010 version but from what I'm hearing, yours is far superior. Is there that much of a difference between mine and the newest version of BIAB or are you just using it to show the chord progressions on the screen?
Great arrangement, but without a backing track and the drums ONLY the piano part sounds a bit lonely. I cannot get the backtrack at the school christmas concert cause all I can get there is a grand piano, the rest I must figure out myself. And I don't know anyone who plays contra-bass so I'm screwed. Gonna have to listen closely to what the bass plays and play it myself. Especially in the middle part where there's not melody. Could you pherhaps tell me sort of what the bass plays PLEASE?!
Thanks, but I know that. I meant the walking bass that is played by the backing track. can you tell me the pattern? My ear is not trained well enough to hear it and play it!
Hey what program is that? Does it show you your chords that you are playing.. If not do you know of any programs that will show the chord names while playing. Thanks for your help.
The best jazz cover on the world.
I always come back to this video every time Christmas is near. Almost a 10-year tradition and only now will I be leaving a comment. Never gets old.
Thanks so much. I just played this yesterday (at home) getting into the spirit of the season!
Those chord tensions are just beautiful nicely played.
Thank you Noel.

@jorgenk3
Blue's Scale.
Lower the third, fifth and seventh note in your key. E.g.: C-Major Key ->
C - D - E flat - F - G flat - G - B flat - C
@LoveFoPrince I appreciate your comment.
@dieWeiseBanane Glad you liked it.
nice solo!
