Here in the United States, the women's Olympic golf was given the same TV coverage as the men, thankfully. It was as epic as the men's was too! HOWEVER and I'm sorry... but I have to disagree with having Long-Drive competitions representing the game of golf as a sport. I'd prefer seeing golf removed from the Olympics and save the game for it's tradition than to see the game morph in it's current trajectory. Right now (and I work at a golf course here in the U.S.), this game I love has seen a decline in the quality of the type of person playing golf. We have had an enormous increase in damage to the golf courses (all 4 of our golf courses, last year totaling $68,000 to golf carts and property), incidents involving alcohol, arrests (!) due to alcohol related incidents, (6 times as many calls to law enforcement than in the previous 30 years!), the lack of golf etitquette and the disrespect to other golfers and the game itself, a sense of entitlement that directly correlates with the lack of etiquette and utter and complete disregard for the rules both written and unwritten as it pertains to all of the aforementioned. Next few Olympics may include golf carts (or buggies to you Brits) jumping bunkers and into ponds or seeing how many times a beer-swilling idiot can roll-over his golf cart down a steep fairway decline because that seems to be the direction TikTok and RUclipsrs seem to think golf is best appreciated.
I feel your pain over those "entitled" scum who are ruining the game and the courses!

@@turnittoglue the biggest channel is how many views you are getting, not how many subscribers you have. So I think there are other chAnnels that are already bigger. That said, it's my favourite channel and hopefully has more longevity

You clearly have a goal across all your channels to highlight the virtues of golf to as wide an audience as possible, and for all your idiosyncrasies I think you do a great job. However, this episode was dull. I am not interested in your cynicism around subscriber lists and eyeballs. I totally understand you should be, behind closed doors, but don’t use us and your platform to air any dirty laundry. You’re better than this - don’t be churlish.
We had full live coverage of almost everything here in NZ. Sky sport had 13 channels running for the olympics. I binge watched as much as I could especially the golf. That last day of the mens was some of the best golf I have ever watched with players from everywhere going for shots and making a charge. I was cheering for Tommy and he was all class. Not to mention then Lydia Ko holding her nerve for Gold. It was epic.
I hated it, my partner took over the TV for 12 days, couldn't watch anything but the Olympics

Olympic golf is interesting and I think the idea of having amateurs as opposed to pros might change how I view the competition. I'm an American but Tommy Fleetwood is my favorite golfer so I was totally pulling for him on Sunday like I would any other tournament. But if they were amateur golfers, I probably would have been all in for whoever was reppin' the US team.

It’s interesting that the TV coverage is different in different countries. In the US, we were spoiled that the golf channel covered every shot for all four days.
I think for the first time in the history of golf, the US broadcast it the best.
In defense of Matt Douch-er, the difference between a birdie and a bogey on that hole is something like 140k. Wanting that extra money is understandable. That being said, he’s a tosser

I was good at Badminton as a kid, County level. Played 2 matches against a Welsh national level player at same age group. Didn't win a single point... Peoples don't don't appreciate that pro's are many levels above.

I love seeing RUclipsrs connecting with pros. When rick does rounds with Tommy Fleetwood or Lee Westwood, Micah Morris playing rounds with Akshay or Sahith, Me and My Golf working with Aaron Rai... It makes everything a bit more relatable for the average Joe.

Living in Asia and using an IPTV type box I was able to watch nearly all the mens golf, it was the best and most exciting golf after the Ryder Cup.

Totally agree. The olympic golf should be purely skill based. Long drive. Long putt. Nearest pin over set distances. That would have me glued. But just for note the stroke play was available for full days on discovery plus. Admittedly for 6.99. But still i watched every round on catch up.

PGA Tour should come down on Kuchar like a lead hammer. His 3 shots probably cost the tournament 6 figures$ in expenses.
The problem with the Olympic golf coverage in the UK was the host broadcaster is Eurosport (Discovery+) NOT the BBC. The BBC list their rights after Rio. The steam was on all day, every day for both events. The final round of the men's comp was one of the best I've ever watched. Scheffler was an absolute beast and fully deserved the win. The three medalists were Scottie, Tonny and Hideki. I think that says quite a lot. The womens event was also as good. Good atmosphere, Celine Boutier tearing it up on day one. The final round was also really good. Ko looked like she was walking away with it until she doubled 13 and then it was squeaky bum time.
With the McDowell issue, it's the same as British Olympic Skiier Alain Baxter who lost his bronze medial in Salt Lake City 2002 because of Vick's nasal spray. The UK version doesn't have the banned substance, the US one does.
You could watch all the golf on Eurosport. Broadcasting rules said BBC can only stream 2 sports consecutively. With a round of golf taking so long I guess they wouldn’t want to waste resources on full coverage. 😢
Discovery+ had the actual rights to the Olympics. I watched most of the OLympics on there
Golf has TV coverage nearly every week of the year. We watch shooting, gymnastics, synchronized diving, and archery etc, once every 4 years. Be realistic, golf has more than enough platforms to showcase itself throughout the year. These minority sports deserve all the coverage for these two weeks once every four years

I've been a fan for years and regularly listen to the pod... interesting discussion today, but must be honest - not a fan of the clicbait title. You are known for honest relatablity, yet pushing a "beef" title just to tee up a next episode... seems beneath you. Or maybe I'm just naive about what it takes to be successful on RUclips. I think your discussion had many other topics with merit to be used in the title. Take it or leave it, but just my thought.
I assume the beef is about alex elliot, which is a shame because i do fancy his channel for instruction.

Yes, Kuchar is not making friends, but the difference between a bogey and a par (which he made on Monday) was over $100K and that helps him keep his tour card. I don't blame him for doing it knowing what was at stake.

In the United States, both men's and women's golf was 6-7 hours labeled part 1 and part 2 everyday. Coverage was fine and I saw pretty much everything. Not sure what you're complaining about?
I've heard a lot about Olympic Golf being hard to watch in the UK. Surprising that there's not a golf channel like we have in the US. I think every round was shown live then on replay for both men and women here.
Re the Matt Kuchar thing ; the difference between the par he got and a bogey was north of $50,000. To you and me that is a lot of money but his tournament earnings are over 60 mill, goes to show what a tightwad he is
Kuchar is fighting to keep his PGA card this year... a dropped shot on the last would have cost him $40+k

Guy has absolutely hit the nail on the head as to why the Golf can't be the centre of attention at the Olympics, plus I don't think golf needs it. Because of the memes around the the Turkish shooter, that sport has more of an eye on it, which it deserves in my opinion, but Golf already has eyes on it. I love that Football is just a footnote in the Olympics, despite being the most popular sport in the world. The Olympics is a celebration of human endeavour, and somehow it doesn't hit as hard seeing multi-millionaires like Rory and Scottie, although as you said last week Scottie's tears show how much this means, which I think is more related to the Olympics, rather than just Olympic golf, Scottie I'm sure has watched Olympic games since a child and dreamed of winning gold, not in Golf, but just in general, and now he's done it. A gold is a gold regardless of the sport and the medal means so much, I would argue it's the greatest single feat in sport generally.

Probably every other Olympic athlete is a professional apart from combat sports.
