  • Did Galaxy Trails outdo their last game? Or was lightning is a bottle that could not be contained?

I completely disagree on the story side: i feel that the writing, direction and voice acting were all huge improvements from the first game, with a lack of cringe the first game definitely had. Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion at the end of the day and i still enjoyed hearing your thoughts. Great review.

Somehow reminds me of the N64 game 'Mischief Makers'

well, Milla is supposed to be the youngest and most cringy character, she's 16 after all, so I think you are getting what you've chosen...I would think its bad if she was not written cringy, i.e. I hate teens that are written reasonably as if they are 30 year old, teens are, have been, and will be, stupid, so to reflect that rightfully in media makes perfect sense to me
you can always choose a more no-nonsense approach older character - Neera, who regularly when very young characters like Aaa or Milla start there antics, just goes with "Whatever, I don't have time for this" and then leaves
the story is ok, I think the love arc in the secret ending is kinda forced I didn't like that that much, but the regular story where you don't even get it is fine and even in the secret one its just part of the story that you can quickly move past...its not groundbreaking, but I would have to dig very deep into my gaming memory to get me a story that actually surprised me, all media rehashes same things, and in this regard fact that FP2 takes subjects of genocides into account and how to deal with history of that is among the more refreshing things instead of "boohoo big bad evil, me defeat big evil"

They tried too hard to make Merga seem sympathetic, her motivation for destroying the world is fine but I don't see how it's a moral gray area. If it was killing the Magister or overthrowing the government I could see some people taking her side but not planetary destruction.

@@DavAndrus they don't, if you read Askal's dialogue he was all for it while Merga seemed to have want to only dispose of the Magister, because that's what she originally presented herself as to them...then once she had Bakunawa she became a tad insane and when you defeat Askal there on it, he admits he was wrong in her and that destroying the world is of course no moral way, but at this point he is afraid of her...and others characters seem to think similar way...nobody is excusing Merga's actions in the end
if anything Merga is presented as having a sort-of like-able motive, but then a descent into madness and more destruction with revenge...the descent you try to pull her out of in the additional ending...I find this a believable outcome...as I stated I think the way to pull her out via a romance is not the best imho, there could be many other ways, but ok developer decided for a love based redemption try

I agree on the story. It's def cringe but it also insults the first game's lore to fall into the trap that the Sonic games had suffered: inconsistency. Freedom Planet 2 was hyped to be an epic story from its first trailer alone and when the finished product came, it flopped badly in that department.
Honestly, it really shouldn't be a series focused on stories anymore but just pure gameplay since that's its stronger point.

Yeah I just look at the story as fluff on the side.
