I honeslty really love FP 1. Hell I might even like it a bit more than FP 2, even if FP 2 is objectively better in most regards. For me FP 1's short length made it super replayable and ever since I played it for the first time in like 2018, I ususally do a playthrough like every 6 months. The story is definitely a bit of a mess, but I still find it stragnely charming.
You definitely made the analysis this game deserves, and with a well written script. The art is one of its best tributes to classic platformers, and they didn't neglect its mechanics design either

I remember playing this as a kid/early teen. There was a point in time where I was very infatuated with the game, to the point where id draw Lilac all the time in my notebook 😂. But I could never beat it. The game was hard af for me.
your point about how harder difficulty modes aren't always scaled the best is a good one. i think games like kingdom hearts 3 really tear at the seams when higher difficulty modes are presented.
