Looks like Z6 produces same picture in 8 bit as Sony in 10, plus ten times better screen, ergonomics ten thousand years ahead, sharp evf, great stills possibilities and all it for less money. Nice.
Nikon is a better choice, considering it is almost the same price. With an external recorder, you can also record 12Bit Apple ProRes video + full photo capabilities + Full frame + viewfinder, and much better ergonomics. and saying colors are just OK on Nikon, that's was a really fun part :) I'm not a fanboy of Nikon, but it has better color science than Sony even
Not the most color-accurate way, but an easy way to get rid of the magenta shift in Nikon FLAT is to do a CST to Arri LogC and apply the Arri Rec709 LUT. In Davinci, you need to add contrast in-between the nodes as even with the LUT applied it's flat. But it really helps with the magenta shift.
I personally have an Atomos Ninja V and Atomos Ninja Star, both of which give me 10 bit NLOG. NLOG is great when graded in Davinci resolve using the CST + manual grading. Great DR, highlight rolloff, colors, very thick codec. But I've been shooting 8-bit internal a lot recently because it is much more convenient. I use Nikon FLAT with entirely stock settings, and I set Active D-Lighting to High or High+. Gives me a nice DR boost. No it isn't 10-bit LOG but as long as you have good WB and exposure set in camera, combined with the aforementioned Arri LogC workflow, you can get pretty good results.
cant really compare a newer cinema camera with an all around camera just for videos. Anyway they both do the job great as nobody notices slight changes even though the sony records 10bit log but im waiting for nikon z6 3 if it comes this year. That expeed 7 should change the game a little, maybe even give 10 or 12 bit 4k 120fps or 6k capabilities :) and i need it for photography and videography, both.
Sony is so compact and industrial looking that it would be nice to have that one but it seems that Nikon has a bit nicer bokeh. Audio is great on both. I think that either camera would get the job done.
I wonder why you didn't use the PP Portrait in any of the comparisons. Actually, with WB set to A-Natural Light and PP Portrait, the footage will look even closer to the FX30 right out of camera. Anyway, I have 2 bodies of the Z6, and I am more than pleased with the look and noiseless video files, especially when shooting in 4k - there is plenty of room to play with colors, if you like. On the other hand, 8-bit is unforgiveable if you are happen to overexpose. On the photography side, Z6 is extreeeeemly good.
I have the Nikon z6ii. Video isn't its strong point. I prefer shooting video either on my Panasonic gh4 or gh5 or canon c100. They are all great cameras but each has their strengths. I did enjoy this video. I don't shoot Sony but that fx30 looks great.
Nikon z6ii at 10bit with ISO 800 is pretty darn good. Nikon even suggest this as optimum settings. the nikon colors work so much better for us Black people...LOL
Looked like a Sony nuthugger here, ended the low light early when Z6ii would have excelled, $1200 is what I paid for my Z6II on ebay. 28-75??? what?? get a decent lens then retest.
Excellent episode! Well thought out. Didn't realize how much better Sony was at video as compared with Nikon. Thank you for all of your hard work on these videos. 📸
Did you increase the focus speed on the nikon you can make it faster in the settings but faster doesnt always mean better in videography slower smoother transition looks better than focus just snapping into place
Tnx for the video, anyway it seems a little bit unfair to compare an hybrid camera made to shoot photo/video with a "cinema" camera made to shoot video. But put in perspective i was impressed as 8bit video (of course it lost) but was able to compete against 10bit footage. ☮️ and ❤ Ale
It isn’t a video camera, it’s for photographers who may occasionally dabble in video, in which even shooting 1080p 8bit the quality is better than that of a phone.
@@tommolewis3105 I know. There is far more latitude, capability, low light, and dynamic range on a Z6 II than any phone camera but still, the Z6 was Nikons video camera. Full sensor readout from 6K. The Z7 was the photographers camera with base iso of 64 and 45mp.
@@truthkeeperfilms Not at all, the Z7 was for landscape and portrait work, the Z6 was for sports, wildlife, hence the faster burst rates. They both shoot 4k with the z6 having marginally better noise control, but it is by no means their “video camera”. Sonys A7S was only 12 megapixel which is the sort of number you’d expect from a purpose built 4k camera for video. Stating the Z6 is for video would he like stating the Z9 is for video purely because it can do 8k.
@@tommolewis3105 - But you realize why it shot faster right? They both had the Expeed 6 processor but one shot 24.5mp and the other 45.7mp. It’s pretty hard getting a high frame rate with almost 100% more resolution with the same processor. And having owned the original Z6 and Z7, than both Mark II iterations and the Z9, the Z6 absolutely blows the higher res out of the water in terms of low light capability. Sure I can get somewhat closer with good post processing with Deep Prime. The Z9/Z8 are very capable video cameras. Not just because it shoots 8K which can be scaled to 4K with the advantage of much better detail than shooting 4K, but you get a number of formats from ProRes RAW to NRAW and H.264 and H.265 in basically whatever color bit you want 8-10-12 bit as well as 4:2:2 subsampling. You still get dual native ISO to help with low light. Also you get wave form and much more needed information while shooting. Clearly the A7S3 has it in low light at 12mp. No one doubts the capability from the A7S III. But if someone is a hybrid shooter the Z8 is a better overall choice.
I feel like Nikon is always ahead to show the world how it is but I would prefer the sony image Maybe because it leads the market in his line. IDK but I feel like the way Sony shows the world is the ideal and this goes for the Z6II Vs FX30 as well
How do you like the Nikon Z6 ii footage? Which camera would you choose between those two?

Thanks for the comparison! I've got the Z6 II, but felt I was left behind while everyone is filming with the Sony🥲
One is a photographic tool ones a video tool . Its like comparing an apple and orange really. I have both to for the reasons mentioned
Nikon z6 ii for sure

You know, you can get rid of the magenta just by customizing the picture profile for video. Very simple to match the sony

Yeah, the nicer bokeh is because of the full frame sensor vs apsc (full frame has more shallow depth of field)

I actually liked the Nikon footage
Isn't the sony shot in 10bit 422 and nikon is shot in 8 bit that does make a difference correct?
Correct
you will not see the diff between 10 and 8 bits in this kind of comparison

Of course I did)) all the af settings on both cameras are set to the fastest speed and sensitivity
Of course sometimes you need a slower speed of focusing - that’s why you have the af settings)
Hallo sir. Do you have tutorial for colour grading nikon z6ii to fx 30? Thank you in advance.
Hi! Yes, on the channel there is a FCPX tutorial on color grading and also s-log3 tutorial (check out tutorials playlist on the channel)
@@NOlimitsON thank your sir.
interesting comparison although for video I wouldn't of thought the Nikon stand a chance on the fx30 but thx maybe a 6iii would do better

I ended up getting the z6ii - $900, 50mm 1.8 z -$30, 24-70 f4S - $275. Value wise it is nikon all the way
my friend went to the Italy last week and also got robbed, camera, lenses etc full bag all about 15k $
Dammit… that’s so sad…(((
Why u didn’t show here fx30 stab performance? Side by side
Because it’s better with native sony lenses and I didn’t have a native lens to showcase it.
I think all comments paid comments 😂 . Sony fx is best for cine line. Look is movie feel. Full . Nikon wedding merriage party function is ok .
🤣you made me laugh with “paid comments”😂😂😂
Z6 II was a bit of a disappointment. No improvement even with 2 Expeed 6 processors. Nothing better than 8-bit 4:2:0, which sucks.
