That film was pretty popular and a cult in 1980. Most of my better-off buddies rented it on VHS video and it was revered in the same way as Mad Max and First Blood. Not widely spoken of today, unless you are over 50, but this cutting song at the end…..
I think of this song when I see my friend who I secretly have a crush on. "and I wonder if she has been thinking of me now and then" One time I went nearly two years without seeing her and the lyric "cause tonight I'll see an old friend" hit me good
I've just watched The Exterminator for the 20+ time since 1980. I had a VHS copy but streamed it annually the last 5 years. I thought it was Leonard Cohen singing this. It is certainly his style. At least the end credits identity Chip so I could find him here. Beautiful song! :-)
Such a great song. God Bless the United States of America and all who have defended her. I wish more people had the patriotic love expressed in this song in their hearts.
Yes this was written specifically for The Exterminator and sung over the closing credits, but not this version. During a tour of Ireland in 2000, I was with Chip after one of his shows and told him how I'd always loved this song but had never been able to find a copy. It seemed that he'd almost forgotten it but this reminder prompted him to include this version (with slightly altered lyrics), on his 2001 "Black and Blue America" album. I have the Video & DVD but was an OST album released?
i heard this way back in 1982 or 3, and it just stuck there in my mind, ive searched many times for it, not sure which movie it was in but i always remembered sit me up straight in my chair, comb my hair, and the movie credits said theme from sitting ducks ??? anyway so pleased i finally found it december 27th 2017 !!!!!
Robert Ginty fyi. I've just watched Exterminator again. Seen it dozens of times bc I had a VHS copy. Now streamed it. Love the brutality to those that deserved it! :-)
Chip U never disappoint just keep rolling along making me thinking about the good things that happen in pass and present and da bad and hope, thank U❤️
Chip Taylor is one of those musicians that got lost in the shuffle of the cards. Music does that to some of the best. Listen to a few tunes by " Mandolin Orange", if you want to know what I mean. They too sing from the heart.... Americana !
Sit me up straight in my chair, comb my hair, because tonight I will see an old friend, and I wonder if she has been thinking of me now and then, she's a candle that burns for a sailor that returns, she's brave she is free and she's waiting to keep me warm, save all your small talk for some other lady just give her your love and your pride and lay down beside her and give her what's left of your hide
I searched for this song from 1981 or 1982 I think it was. It was played at the end of a movie during the closing credits.....he also wrote "Angel of the morning" and "wild thing"
Did they record the song specifically for the film? It did end with him alighting on Bedloe Island at the end of the film, and one of this fellow veterans does end up as a quadrapalegic.
@@jamesglickenhaus.2311 Hey Mr. Glickenhaus! The Exterminator is one of my all-time favorites. And The Soldier was pretty excellent too. Your choice of Tangerine Dream for that sound track was brilliant. You made two formerly unheard of actors fairly famous with these films, Robert Ginty and Ken Wahl. You are a very talented film maker, and its too bad you no longer do that. Anyway, this song was a suburb choice for the ending of The Exterminator, and it captured the whole theme of the film.
I would never have known about this song if it wasn't for the movie "The Exterminator". Such a beautiful song. It kind of brings a tear to your eyes.
Same here. Tht's where i first heard this song.
Escucha esta, Chip Taylor "One up for the good guys" del film "The Protector" (Jackie Chan)... ¡¡¡ maravillosa canción !!!
I just watched a old movie from the 80's called The Exterminator...It was good and then at the end...This music gem.
The music editor was genius to use this in closing and "Heal It" in the opening scene in NYC.

My late husband introduced me to this song many years ago.I listen to it "every now and then"
Like today...

Marvelous song, getting a little choked up. Thank you to all who have served and are serving. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

Thank you for protecting our Country and for your sacrifice. May God Bless and protect you my friend. Semper Fi.
As close to perfect as it can be. They know it is that good and they know how to make it shine.

One man's patriot is another Government's fool
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
From a mad keen 76yo Aussie fan.
GOD--Chip is so,so brilliant & John & the band are superb.
I could listen to Chip all day long. I would love to see him write some tunes with two of Australia's best Don Walker and Paul Kelly.

Mandolin Orange ! You are a connoisseur of good music!
An amazing talent.
amazing song, thanks!
Yes, it sure was. Great movie. Just watched it and wanted to check out the song here...
Just watched The Exterminator again for the first time since the mid 80s. It's so different than what I remembered it like as a kid.
Great song to finish The Exterminator
Wasn't this song in the OST for 1979-lensed vigilante movie THE EXTERMINATOR ?

Chip's a giant.
.
nice
this is jon voights brother, he looks just like him..beautiful song..
I can see Georgie in the background. Damn cancer wars.
Now in 2021 the song after Taliban is so painfulllllllll
This man sits right next to Leonard Cohen. At least.
If he is Jon Voights brother then wouldn't that make him Angelina Joulie's Uncle....? lots of similarities around the mouth
+flatroader He is the brother of actor Jon Voight and geologist Barry Voight and the uncle of actress Angelina Jolie and actor James Haven.
wow ...you really did your home work. I like to know some history and life experiences that inspires the songs they write. Thanks for the info

Theme for an American hero
🙂👌🏻
This is his date With liberty
End of our national unity circa 1980
He looks like Rutger Hauer's twin brother.

I think it was written very closely at the same time. Would be interesting if it was as that would give it extra cool points.
@@LandersWorkshop It was written for the Exterminator. I was there when it was recorded.
