Diane plays the 185 Rank Rodgers Pipe Organ of Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas installed in 1987. This was performed during the National Guild of Organists.
It's all FROZEN in my memory. We went bonkers! I was at that recital nearly 30 years ago at Houston Second Baptist and not over it yet. You wouldn't be either. If Bish had played any better that night, we wouldn't be able to stand it!!
As usual, very nicely and awesomely played. Virgil Fox would be proud of you!
And this ladies and Gentlemen is why the organ is the King of Instruments!!!
And why she is queen of the organists!
This video is fabulous. The Grand Dame of Organ playing one of the grand dame's of organ literature. Brava, Ms Bish!!!!!
Outstanding! Thank you again Ms. Bish. All praise and glory to God our Heavenly Father.
Bravo!
But what is very sad, they have now erected three giant projection screens in front of all the pipe facades leaving the organ hidden. :( The joys of "contemporary worship."
You can see the screens on the RUclips video called "Hallelujah Chorus Second Baptist Church 2012."
Does it make since to get a organ that huge, just because the church is rich $, then years later, the organ is rarely used???😮😮😮😂❤
Where's the fire? I didn't hear any sirens, did you?
Why rush through the beautiful toccata at 100 and plenty miles per hour?
I think her tempi are exciting, as they express the message of the music. So naysayers, what's the scriptural reference of "Thou Art the Rock"? And not just this composition, just sayin....
Diane Bish one of the greatest organist in the world today. She studied with the late Marie-Claire Alain in France . This is the way she feels that this piece of Music is Played To me it is a matter of interpretation of Music
that is your opinion that she plays it to fast.
That Rogers is not a pure Rogers. All the pipe works are Ruffatti only the electronic stops and controls are Rogers. Rogers went 2 million dollars in debt building this hybrid organ.
Thom Faircloth I'm curious as to how you know that Rogers went 2 million dollars in debt building this organ. And why? Seems like a bad job to take if you're going to be 2 millions in the hole.
Nater389 I worked for CBS musical Instruments which owned Rogers at the time. Don't misunderstand me please I said they went into debt to build the organ. They represented Ruffati in the US in those days and they had to invest that money to get everything from Italy to Houston. I didn't say they lost two million dollars. They of course made a return on the investment but it was a scary time for Rogers.
Interesting. Thanks for the info.
Thom Faircloth rodgers has never gone in debt for any organ they have sold that I assure you
Isn't this the ignorant church that took out the en Chamade trumpets for screens and a smaller console..
..is it even being used or has it been replaced with a keyboard?
The church took out the Chamade Trumpets because of Hurricane Ike in 2008. The Chamade Division was removed and the other divisions on the fifth manuals were placed to the fourth manual so they removed the fifth manual on the organ. The Chamades in the Gallery is still there but the other Chamades in the Choir were placed in the Solo Chamber of the Organ. It is still in use they use it for traditional worship which sadly the don't broadcast.
too fast, again by the organrapist!
Actually this is the exact tempo Virgal Fox plays on the Wannamaker on his 1966 LP.
