this issue of jobs being important is so insulting to Albertans... we lot 80 to 100 thousand jobs here well the federal government did nothing and now they make a big stink over 9000 jobs that wouldn't even be lost(because the work still needs to be done) just that some other big construction company would have to do that work like Fluor or PCL.... that work doesn't disappear... it still needs to be done just different contractors would be doing it... they talk about workers... about shareholders... Fluor and PCL have shareholders and workers too... sick of this weak defense being used.... you'd have to be blind not to see that this is about protecting Quebec... this is about votes.

There is a lot of commentary about the Shawcross doctrine going around. Here is what Shawcross himself said. (I got this from the UK government website)
Sir Hartley Shawcross, informed the House in 1951, “an Attorney General, in order to inform himself of relevant considerations MAY CONSULT with any colleagues in the government and indeed, as Lord Simon once said, he would in some cases be a fool if he did not.” But it is important to remember such a consultation - since 1951 termed a Shawcross exercise - is for the provision of information and does not consist of telling an Attorney what to do - that decision is mine and mine alone and cannot be shared or passed to government colleagues.
Clearly, it is up to the Attorney General to SEEK advice - NOT to have a bunch of folks from the PMO and elsewhere pester the AG.

Jody Wilson-Raybould as Attorney-General approved the prosecution of Admiral Mark Norman - it was commenced under her. The proceedings against him have been underway for more than a year. A decision to prosecute a high-ranking military officer can only have come from the A-G's office. The pressure to prosecute has come from Liberal advisors and those who lobbied them, who were unhappy at the way in which the Admiral obtained the speedy delivery of a supply vessel from the Davie shipyard in Levis, and who wanted to stop the RCN signing the final contract that the outgoing Conservatives had expected to go through. How long before Ms Wilson-Raybould's role in bringing the prosecution against Admiral Norman comes under scrutiny? Jody W-R may not look so good if (as there is good reason to expect) the Admiral's lawyer Marie Henein obtains a dismissal of the charge against him on the ground that it is an abuse of process. None of the pundits here, while criticising Trudeau's administration, want to discuss the departed A-G's involvement in bringing a case against the most senior officer in the RCN.... David Lametti the current A-G has the opportunity to cut Jody W-R's image down to size (and so reducing the pressure on the Prime Minister) by abandoning the prosecution that she had a part in commencing. He could perfectly well decide to do so.

Why did nobody once even raise the plain wording of the DPA that says that it can not be considered in respect to national economic interests, ie Trudeau's "jobs, jobs, jobs". Furthermore, it can only be considered if the company involved in wrongdoing confesses to that wrong doing BEFORE they are caught? Which did not happen in the case they are currently charged with.

National interest as opposed to foreign interest is the distinction that is excluded.
That came out during testimony... but you didnt hear that? just as Sheer didnt hear, PIZZAGATE?
Long term, economic interest of Canada is the only reason the DPA law exists and justified.
SNC has not been convicted. If they were to cut a deal, admit guilt then DPA could apply.
If these issues are too much for you to comprehend, you dont understand, dont you think for the good of the country you should recuse yourself from voting?

@@dtgps According to Wikipedia "The legislation states that, in the case of Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act, the prosecutor "must not consider the national economic interest, the potential effect on relations with a state other than Canada or the identity of the organization or individual involved." I don't see the distinction you speak of there. This simply means "jobs, jobs, jobs" may not be considered.
"Through the regime, companies have added incentives to comply and to "self-report potential wrongdoing". It is not a matter of pleading guilty. It is too late for them to "self-report potential wrongdoing". They were caught with their pants down.
Face it, you feminist floozy friend is corrupt.

@@TropicalCoder Its obviously too complicated for you, TC. What possible reason for the legislation if not for long term, economic interest of the country. Other countries have the same legislation.
So why have the legislation at all if not for long term economic interest?
"must not consider the national economic interest, the potential effect on relations with a state OTHER THAN CANADA." That is one statement, not two separate statements.
Still too complicated for you..... recuse yourself from the next election... please.

@@dtgps The legislation is not for the " long term, economic interest of the country". It is to protect shareholders and workers from actions by the corporation that are outside of their control. The legislation has nothing to do with protecting national economic interests and states that clearly.

@@TropicalCoder protecting innocent workers from loss of their jobs due to no fault of theirs = long term economic benefit for them and for the Canadian economy.
The legislation prevents a country from enacting the law to gain advantage over another country(outside of their control) for sole purpose of protecting national economic interests, over foreign country(s).
