Funny, this was something they considered for the Allianz Arena in Munich and that just has colored blogs the size of busses on the outside, not even a display of such fidelity. Apparently color changes were limited to every 20 seconds or so, display like this would not have gotten permits at all. I think from space it likely just looks like a very bright pixel, you can make out Vegas from the bright lights, but probably need a really good camera to see individual blobs representing the casino's. The wall of china can't be seen from space actually. My biggest worry, pilots getting distracted, not the airline ones, but the private jets and smaller airplanes that tend to fly around Vegas a lot. NTSB and FAA going to be shitting bricks over this, how'd they approve this I wonder.
As someone who has done LED walls on a much much smaller scale, dead or defective panels are a huge problem and getting them replaced is an even bigger PITA due to manufacturing and matching differences. If that many panels are bad already I can only imagine how bad this is going to look weeks and months from now. I sure hope they have the means to replace them easily from the inside at least.
Thought of this also. I would THINK quite a few could be dead already since this has been running almost non stop since mid July, early Aug. But maybe not enough to really notice so far? I just assume they have plenty of spare new panels..but yeah, this will be a constant job replacing them for months, years to come.

Great at night, but just another ugly structure in Vegas during the day. I have been driving though Vegas on my way to Zion during the day. How pathetically ugly and drab stucco and concrete structure's in the daylight AND NOT A GREEN TREE IN SIGHT. Not only that but 114 degrees during the day. I use to live in the Vegas area and could not wait to get back to Orange County CA.

I suppose it's inevitable in this massive a construction: there are several small but noticeable areas of defective LEDs. [Wabi-sabi?] Nevertheless, the designers had a technological field day with this thing. I hope they can keep the images as high quality as these are. All-in-all, pretty amazing.

Im local, live in Henderson and this was a huge waste of money for all the problems we have going on in Vegas.
They did the big orange pumpkin the night we were there on Oct 1st. Too bad there is no bench stop for public to sit down & enjoy the viewing.
