I lived in Vegas from 1987 to 1993 and my dad worked for a construction company that helped build the Excalibur.
I remember going to the grand opening and all the workers and their families were invited to a free grand buffet and an exclusive jousting performance. It was such an amazing experience and being a 6 year old kid made it even better!

I also lived there during that same time. No construction relatives. Didn’t see the construction of the place, was working 3rd shift and slept during the day.
Did go see the jousting performance shortly after it opened and have all the $1 coins they minted in circulated condition (free money for them!). The experience was great but never stayed there. Luxor didn’t exist and neither did Mandalay Bay or Trams.

The only way the resort fee goes away at this point is if the state regulates it away which the state should. I know the hotel prices will just jump 50 bucks a night to make up for it but I would rather see 150 a night vs this nonsense of 100 per night plus a 45 dollar resort fee.

I stayed at the Excalibur in March for my first Vegas trip. I got a good deal booking during the holiday season. 18 dollars a night. I was in a room on the tenth floor. It was fine and relatively clean. There wasn’t any noise from the other rooms.
There are two benefits Jacob didn’t mention. The airport is close to the Excalibur. A great benefit if you have an early morning flight. The second is the buffet. 30 dollars. It’s open from around 10-3. Lots of food, including a meat carving station and a made to order crepe station. Ate around 11, skipped breakfast, and was full till dinner around 6.

Been hanging out here since the early '90s. #1 bartender at the Lobby Bar has been there since the opening in 1990, and IMHO he's the best bartender IN TOWN. He's become a good friend. What saddens me about MGM is they've lost sight of who their customer is. This place is clearly for the "low roller" crowd, not the ballers who want to hang at the new posh properties and don't mind paying outrageous prices for everything. They used to understand this, and drinks were cheap, food was reasonable, etc. Now everything is gouge city. This is the reason people flock to places like South Point, who caters to that same customer, but actually knows how to do it, and do it well. We spend a ton of time there now too.

I stayed there once, it was okay; nothing more. I equate it w an old Holiday Inn. I was a "LV newby" at the time, found it affordable & the Welcome to Las Vegas sign was an easy walk. I also liked that the casino has a Krispy Kreme Donuts! I hear they have a good Medieval Times show, but I've never seen it.

We usually stay at the Excalibur. I run the strip in the mornings, so it's straight to Circus and back about 6.2 miles in total. The little one loves the pools for sure. The buffet is actually pretty darn good. It's right next to the NY which has the coaster, and then a few blocks from Planet which has those good shops. The gambling is great; they have one of those video craps multiplayer ring areas. My little one likes the games downstairs, but I was once bonked in the head with a rubber ball thrown by a little monster child, so the supervision wasn't as great down there. There are some great shows in the vicinity as well. Our room is just... well a room. I like how they now require a key or phone app to board the elevators; it keeps the randos from bugging.

Sure, the rooms aren't plush like those on the center Strip, but it is as good as the places I've stayed at downtown (without all the noise). I don't go to Vegas to spend a lot of time in my room, so this fits the bill. It's close to other properties and a short stroll to go to a Golden Knights game. The casino has a nice vibe to it. Jacob great job and hats off to the videographer.
I use to work for circus corp back in the 80’s and there’s a very interesting story about the Luxor and how it came to be. For a really good history lesson on how these properties came to be was the minds of William Bennet and William Pennington who envisioned themed hotels in Vegas.

I have stayed at Excalibur every year since 2019 and never had a problem. Resort fees are the exact same I think across all the MGM properties. I do a convention every year that is held over at MGM and even with the block of rooms for that convention Excalibur is still cheaper and a good deal. I enjoy staying there every year and will probably continue to book a room there each year.

The clean carpet smell of Excalibur is one of a kind. Once you step foot in the casino, you know it's Excalibur. The Buffett is pretty good for the price, if you use the self check out you end up avoiding the huge line to get in. The Lounge has a DJ on the weekends.

Thanks for this! We're staying at the Luxor end of June, and learning more about Excalibur is a big benefit. I used to work Renaissance faires back in the day, and I looked at the property, unfairly, through that lens when I visited there last.
We're looking for some family-friendly things to do, not necessarily on the Strip. Our son found Impact Archery and wants to do that... any chance of a video covering things like that in the future? Thanks for all the great content!

Thanks so much for this video and updates. First trip to Vegas was in 1999 and stayed at the Excalibur. It was so much fun and inexpensive. I had never been in a hotel and casino that was so massively huge. Buffets were like $3.99 for breakfast and you would get a buy one get one free buffet coupon which could also be used for the dinner buffet which was like $8.99. Room was $20, no resort fee and free use of the phone for local calls as not everyone used cell phones. A great stay for families for cheap eats and the arcade. The hotel would give you free arcade coupons or 2 for 1 coupons for other entertainment. Never used the arcade freebies but gave them to kids playing games in the arcade. If the room smells funky, break out your favorite room spray from Bath and Body. I always keep this packed in my to go bag for all my trips, cruises etc. and have been going to Vegas since 1999 but prefer to stay at TI as it has the bridge to the Fashion Show Mall etc. I'm more of a shopper and into fine dining than gambling but how can anyone NOT have fun in Vegas. It's always changing with so much to do that the word Boredom doesn't exist in this city.
