    This is by far the best tutorial for Rendering in RedShift. I originally was hoping you would just tell me the settings but instead I got a deeper understanding of how to properly use the render settings in each scenario. subbed.

    Nice dive down in to optimalization.
    i just discovered that bucket size has a huge impact on speed of rendering if you have lots of big textures or massive meshes. so push it as big as your Vram allows. In som scens its like 2-4x speed

    Man you are SMART. This is easily the best RS render settings video explainer I've ever found. Thank you. I know it's a chore, but every time they update RS, these settings jump about and get added to or name changed. Is it time for a new vid? Maybe a short, just for the changes from 10mths ago. I'm trying to end up with three, master settings presets -Brainstorming (everything as fast and as responsive as possible); Testing (for client progress showable) and Final (for output). Obviously each job will require tweaking of each, but to have a baseline three... boy what a blessing that would be. Thanks for your wisdom and hard work.

    Thank you so much for this video, I'm learning a lot!
    When I turned off all my lights, it renders pitch black even with the C4D default lighting checked (under Globals), wondering if anyone encountered the same issue.
    @11:00 The 'Light Samples' options are not showing up on my Area light, even with 'Automatic Sampling' checked off in the render setting, any guidance with this will be so so much appreciated! Much love

    7:00 I don't think you should force the Min samples to high values because afaik what it does is it will force in your case 128 samples no matter what even if it's just a picture background or some highly lit areas might not require X samples to get to certain noise levels but your Min settings forces it to oversample those areas. Ofc 128 is not a lot and likely it's rarely enough, but now lets say if you set Min samples to 512 ar 1024 or whatever it can be totally different. What you should do is simply use the Threshold as it will pick something inbetween the Min and Max values, different areas of the scene will require different samples to reach X noise level aka Threshold.

    • @BTB3D
      @BTB3D  Год назад

      Adjusting the threshold lower forces redshift to use a higher number of samples so it makes Redshift less adaptive and increases render time. You are right different areas will require different samples, but by adjusting the threshold lower you are essentially raising the minimum samples.

    • @ExacoMvm
      @ExacoMvm Год назад

      @@BTB3D Yes that's what is it for and in your case you increase the samples manually so it's sort of the same thing as lowering noise threshold. I just prefer to use threshold since I know approx. how noisy the render will be in the end so threshold to me is like "Hey I want this level of noise and use whatever amount of samples you need to achieve that, but do not exceed my maximum samples" so I often set something like Min 1-4 and Max ~5K to give RS some room for the sampling. But if I set the min/max samples manually by somewhat overriding the threshold ( e.g. going with high min samples ) I have no idea what the result will look like and how consistent it will be in animation renders etc, threshold is somewhat always consistent in terms of noise level if it's not then it's not enough max samples. The Threshold should really be renamed to "Noise Threshold" since when the pixel reach certain noise level RS will stop calculating those areas. So even if you set Min samples ~4 and max samples like 10K it will still render fast with something like 0.01 threshold, lower it to 0.0035 and it will probably start using around 4-6k max samples depending on your scene.
      Since RS is very similar to Arnold I've heard that in Arnold it's bit different and threshold should not be used for IPR as it's way slower but it's fine and preferred for final render. Saul Espinosa also mentioned something similar about RS years ago that the threshold doesn't work like in V-Ray, Cycles X and many other renderers even tho based on my testing it does work the exact same way and I haven't really noticed any significant speed differences when using threshold as main control vs going the manual way.
      Ofc take it with grain of salt, I am mainly V-Ray / Octane user so I might be somewhat wrong due to lack of testing/experimenting with all that but imo using manual overrides like you've showed + threshold combination is the fastest way to setup nearly the most efficient rendering.

    Hi, I have a question regarding the AOVs in the render view. I've activated the AOVs that I needed and they show up in the render view drop down menu. The problem I have is that only some of them work when I hit render. Reflections, refractions, SSS, AO, GI all come out completely black on the preview render, only shadow seems to work fine. I'm rendering using bucket render just like you're doing. I puzzled cause I'm doing exactly what you are, step by step but it's not working. Is there anything you can think of that I might be missing? Thanks!

    Hello thank you for this tutorial, I have a small question :)
    you have shown us how to make AOVs to separate the layers but how to make object masks on REDSHIFT to separate the objects for example of disonaurus to have it on a single layer for compositing. as you can do with the render tag on the Physics engine.
    THANKS

      its very unintuitive but besicaly you need add more then max semples.
      so for example if you have your max samples 256 and want to improve noice in reflection you need to overwtie it to 514 to have double new samples in reflections
