You can groom an adult, regardless of how much people think you can't. He was devoid of parental love an thus when she became that for him on set, she became his everything.
She kept saying how perfect he was for the roll and from the fact that his parents let him be naked on stage at 8, they clearly paid little mind to his acting. It meant everything to him to have someone actually acknowledge how good he was. Since she was attracted to him, she would have been letting that be known somehow because of the way they acted on set.
He doesn't have to be a minor too be groomed. Grooming victims are usually always head over heels in love with the groomer, that's how it works. They separate you from any other emotion support so that they become your EVERYTHING.

There's just too much brain development that still needs to happen before you're 25, and I know this because there is a stark difference in the way I see the world and behave now compared to 18. When you're that young, everything is new and feels incredibly high stakes. As you get older you develop wisdom to not rush everything. Clearly nobody was there to tell Aaron this. So by gushing over an older/successful woman, he saw his chance to fill that void and start a family of his own. Now as an adult, Sam should've shut that shit down and had a serious conversation with him about the age gap and how inappropriate their union would be. Instead she acted on impulse and caved into her urges. I'm curious to see how she would react if any of her children date someone twice their ages. What would her course of action be? Would she be accepting or reject the notion? Even though she didn't practice what she preached. Time will tell.

Aaron's entire career and personal life as we know it is like, SOOOO many red flags. He has the classic signs of a child star that was taken advantage of by adults, and made to feel more "mature" for his age -- not to mention he seemed super overworked as a 6 year old like jfc. His interviews make it sound like he was so tied up in his work that he was low key having an identity crisis at the age of 17.... how he says he's never attracted to "girls", as though women his age are immature, which ew? I really wonder who the older women in his life were growing up, and if he ever dated seriously before Sam... but either way, he really was set up for something like this the way he came up.
Beyond all the ageist mysogonyst shit, it's overall gross that Sam could see someone close to her own children's age, who is obviously struggling with his self-esteem, and has little life outside of acting, and still pursue him. She shouldn't use the false equivalency of older woman/young man with older man/young woman to defend their relationship, as if history of patriarchy has nothing to do with that, and if the latter has ever been morally acceptable... So i super appreciate it that you mentioned how regardless, women can be predators.
I always feel yucky thinking about these two, like it seems really sad and like something that could blow up any day now, but no one knows them personally, and all my conjecture is really overstepping at the end of the day. I’ve always had a weird feeling about their relationship, but watching this video, especially the bits where Sam talked about how Aaron naturally embodied John Lennon, really caught my attention. In some ways, Aaron is like Lennon, and perhaps that explains his relationship with Sam as well. Both Aaron and Lennon went through a lot as kids and acted out as a result. Lennon notably gravitated toward strong older maternal figures, a result of his complex upbringing with his stern aunt Mimi and flighty mother Julia (as depicted in the film), which explained his attraction to a woman like Yoko…so maybe there’s a similar pathology with Aaron and Sam? And Yoko and Sam both have artistic backgrounds, and have received a lot of backlash for their respective relationships, both deserved and undeserved. So maybe, in a twisted way, it was fate?

I have always thought that she groomed him from the beginning. The interview that you played with her talking about his audition (when he was 17) and how she starts to say what she thought at the time but then she catches herself and instead says "well I won't say what I thought, I'll keep it to myself. " Then she proceeds to say he was perfect for the role because he embodied Lennon. She stopped herself because she knows he was 17 at that time and she was attracted to him. That's is 🚩 she was attracted to a minor and instead of doing what was right she acted on her attraction. If it was a 42 year old man directing a movie attracted to a 17 year old girl that auditioned for him then proceeded to enter into a relationship with her that would raise eyebrows and he would be labeled a creep [ rightfully so IMO]. Now all that being said that was the past and they are married with kids now. When Aaron is being interviewed and the interviewer presses him on whether or not kids /family is what he's always wanted. He says yes but the caveat being "since the moment I met Taylor it's what I've always wanted ." Could it be because he was 17 when he met her and still a teen when they were engaged and pregnant? He didn't really have time to ponder whether or not a family was what he wanted he was so young. I think maybe they need to both stop acting like people are not going to raise eyebrows at their relationship. They need to stop feigning shock that people have questions and that their relationship makes other uncomfortable. If you just say yeah our relationship is super unconventional but we're happy and leave it at that it leaves less room for doubt, however it feels like they keep trying to justify their relationship and try really hard to convince people that this kind of relationship is normal when it's just not. As for the Jamie King rumors I mean where there is smoke their is fire . Even in Mary Kay letourneau 's case Villi couldn't justify their relationship in the end.

Man, grooming is so fucked up. I was reading a reddit post of an adult man who found out that his dad met his mom when she was 15 and his father was in his 20s. It rocked the guy's world, and completely changed his relationship with his father because, even though the parents said they didn't date until the mom was 18, it was morally wrong. His dad assured him that he wasn't attracted to children, he and the mom just had a "spark" . He talked to his mom in private and she said she was happy, and if for some reason she was no longer happy, she felt like she could safely leave the marriage. But what is there to do beyond that to rectify that situation? It shouldn't happen in the first place, but there is nothing legally stopping an 18 year old from being in a relationship with a giant age gap, even if the public can speculate they started dating before that. I am in no way saying grooming or dating barely legal teens is ok. I hate it. I think it's gross.
But, I think we are at this point where when we see relationships with giant age gaps involving teens, we can agree it's wrong, but we don't have a way to properly cope with relationships that make it beyond those initial stages. This relationship has progressed to the point of there being children involved. Even if Aaron says "yes, we had a power imbalance and in retrospect, I was taken advantage of, but I love the life we built together and I don't want it any other way", then what? Or Sam says "the public harassment has broken me and I can't do this anymore, so I'm leaving the relationship and taking the kids with me." Is exploding what has become a family really a victory? What is the best charted course for this relationship now that we are here? I don't know and I don't think anyone else can know. Best we can do is try and educate kids about these things, for adults to keep their friends in check, and keep publicly talking about how this isn't ok. This isn't a Hollywood problem, it's an issue everywhere.
Thanks BE, another interesting video, done respectfully and with tons of great interviews.

My parents started dating when my mom was 16 and my dad 21 and got married and had me in less than a year. My mom was barely 20 when she had me, and now, being 20 myself, I find it all gross and terrifying. My dad laughed it off as "age doesn't matter" and how my mother's abusive upbringing made her mature for her age.

I think both of them had some experiences in life influencing this outcome. Aaron didn't seem to have much in terms of relating to people his own age growing up and Sam had cancer. Sometimes after surviving cancer, people start to live more young, like it's their last day because they've already came face to face with mortality.

I think it is healthy that people react when young people enter into relationsships with such a big age difference. The power dynamic is very scewed, there is no way around it and many of these relationsships are just a "trophy" thing... BUT, there are always exceptions and although cautios we must also be open-minded to those. We have no right to try to ruin people's happiness, it is rare to find. Wonderful video as always Bee. Same goes to if I had a 20 years younger husband at the age of 60, I wouldn’t want a 40 year old man taking care of me at my old age, I would fee l guilty. I want to create a life together where we are both equals and there’s no imbalances of any kind. The thing that bothers me about this whole debate is how long ago they started dating. Yes, at the time the looks weren't great, he was so young and there was definitely a power imbalance and I totally understand the people who would have been suspicious or concerned. But now it has been what, 15 years? they have been married for over a decade, have two children together, seem happy despite all the negativity in the press. I think it's time to let it go! Exceptions to the rules do exist. Would I go around recommending 18 year olds start dating people in their 40s? No, but at the same time making the leap that every single such relationship MUST be abusive is simply not how reality works. I've seen people on the internet claim the wildest things, that she must be constantly manipulating him and he needs to be "saved" and such. At this point it's just a ridiculous infantilisation of a man who is now in his mid thirties. He's not 18 anymore, y'all. He doesn't need saving. Let it go and maybe be humble in realising you ultimately don't know these people or their lives.

I think it can be true love or he felt greatful towards her. Perhaps she was a guardian figure he craved. Maybe she given him lectures, advices and wisdom of life during the shoot and it made him admire her. Maybe he thinks his admiration is romantic love rather like the love for a teacher or a parent. He's probably confusing it all but what he feels is definitely a strong feeling of some sort which he wanted to preserve through institution of marriage. Maybe he thought that was the only way. At age 42 she knew what she was going for. She was awed by his validation and probably loved feeling young. Midage crisis I must say. I'm 38 so I kind of understanding her ignorance to reality. Did she groom him, I don't think so. But she could had ignored him easily, but didn't. Because she rather feel good, great, like a teenager again, then to let the man grow up and see what's he's missing. I get hit on by much much younger guys, even guys in their early 20's. My reaction is hysterical towards them. I tell them I have a son their age and give them the mom look. I don't have a son their age, but my point is it's very very easy to push away much younger guys when you are gushed over by them. Women in their 30s,40s,50s are very wise. Things like this I don't accept. Specially when he's a teenager? Com'n....guys in their 30s with much older woman is okay, u know the guy is matured and wise enough. A 17,18,19 year old boy? In the art world, the taboo on age differences and between people in positions of power and subordinates tends to be smaller as long as they are between consenting adults. The world of cinema tends to be a little more sensitive about this too. Most of her contacts come from this art field, Aaron also said in an interview that he was passionate about this art field. I believe that is why their relationship works despite criticism of the age difference that tends to be more from the pop culture side.

@@betheecommentator well, i watched, and i feel like i still don't know who these people are! but also i feel like that might not matter to the conversation at hand. to me, the gender roles don't matter - if it is "wrong" for an older man and a younger woman, the same is true for an older woman and a younger man - or same-sex or nonbinary couples for that matter. i don't think age is necessarily worrisome on its own - it is when the intersectionality of power and consent come into play WITH age that alarm bells start to go off. if someone is a minor, if someone is someone else's boss, etc., then it is a problem. period.

While I don’t agree her trying to date an 18 year old, but If he was of age when they met. I can’t hate. However, I don’t feel that 18 is an adult. And Aaron being separated from his family and particularly his mother is it really shocking she fell in love with a “mother figure”. Granted he was in the industry for a while and likely had more growth and experience than an normal 18 year old, it still seems like it wasn’t a healthy attachment at first. Who knows if he didn’t have these separation issues with his family from being a young actor maybe this wouldn’t have happen. But an age gap shouldn’t be an issue as long as it’s healthy and there isn’t a power dynamic as there also is here. Just my objective opinion

Their story reminds me a bit of the dark romantic comedy film from the 70s that caused repulsion at the time, "Harold and Maude". The story is about a rich young man of 18/19/20 years old with an existential crisis who always tries to fit into society, obsessed with death, who falls in love with an old hippie of 80 years old who survived the Nazi concentration camp. Aaron, like Harold, had a "perfect" life before meeting Sam (Maude). Money, fame and career took the attention of girls, but at the same time they felt empty and artificial. Maude and Sam went through traumas in life (for Sam it was cancer) that made them want to live intensely without caring about the opinion of others. Both attract the hearts of young people who feel socially alienated. I believe their dynamic works the same way ://ruclips.net/video/oj94MgHyhTk/видео.htmlsi=WSYF0sOkhgiUDii0 And about Aaron's desire to be a stepfather and father at such a young age, I believe it is a way to reclaim his lost childhood, similar to Michael Jackson, who also had no childhood and became obsessed with children (to the point of being accused of pedophilia for it). Both Aaron and Sam seem to me to have a "Peter Pan" syndrome because of their lost childhood. I have researched their interactions away from the public eye, whether in Instagram photos or taken by paparazzi, they always seem a little "childish" to me. The journalist himself describes it with them playing on set at 15:11. I believe it would be difficult for him to have a "normal" life or relationship if he had not met his wife as I suggested the jealous fangirls. Taking beauty and money out of the equation, he does not seem to me to be the kind of man who would be able to maintain a socially appropriate relationship.

I don't like how she is accused of being a groomer for being with a man much younger. He was an adult. He was used to being around a much older crowd. I genuinely believe if not Sam, Aaron would have married another woman much older than him. Their union seems to be complimentary and it's still going strong. If the sexes were reversed, no one would be bothered. Sam doesn't have a history of dating much younger men or relationships with a power imbalance. I judged them until I watched their interviews. By all accounts, Aaron pursued Sam and refused to hide their relationship so I don't get why she is accused of grooming him.

correct, not to mention that he was already a highly sought-after actor with an intense resume before meeting her. Their relationship can be considered the imbalance of power between actor and director and about the age difference, but it can hardly be defined as "grooming".

My other Grandfather is 12 years older and they are still together. He wasn’t her boss but he met her on the job. They are African American. I never heard anything about grooming or taking advantage of my Grandmother’s. My GM in Norway was very happy and had 4 kids. My mom married a man 10 years younger then her. He was a great guy that died of cancer. I feel if you are of age and that’s what you want to do then do it. Tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone. Just my opinion.✌🏾

No one wants to admit that women's anger towards Sam is that they can't accept that a young, handsome, consenting boy wants to "waste" his youth voluntarily without manipulation with an older, "ugly" woman, while men's anger is the reprimand of age differences in modern mainstream pop culture, not reaching this specific couple that was normal male in entertainment culture in the past. She also confused feminism itself, because on the one hand what she did was "wrong" despite being cool, however it is the most common thing when the gender is the opposite. She breaks the idea of "good girl" girlboss social justice without caring about it. almost like Leni Riefenstahl
