It is thought that some have such terrible power that they can kill by looking at you in the eye. Outside of anime, another example is Rowling's Basilisk in the second Harry Potter. The original legend of the basilisk wasn't a giant snake; but was said to have the Evil Eye. These days most remember the Evil Eye in terms of a stern/angry stare, without the death.

But it's still a Japanese series since the original novel was created by a Japanese man (called Takaya Kagami). The series Avatar the Last Airbender was created in Korea as well, but it's still an American show because the people who came up with the story and everything that happens -and how it happens, when it happens and what it looks like- are American. Koreans should be given credit, but it doesn't make it a Korean show. It also doesn't make it a half-Korean show.
@shadowduel plus denyuuden is still ongoing^^ the novel i mean. the naime covers the first 11 volumes, and there are about 40 voluem snow.. ahhh, thecould just do a second season already, they wont run out of material anywhere soon wil they?
if the person who created the story is Japanese, and it was created in Japan, it's a Japanese story. Taekwondo was created in Korea, but when we practice it here in Holland, would we call it a Dutch Martial Art just because it's now taught by Dutch people?
