When all army men will have new combat uniform with bullet proof helmet/ jacket? When this INSAS will be replaced with modern rifles? We can not always risk our foot soldiers lives at risk by these high rank generals who never fight in the fields.
I would assume that the gear looks outdated because that's not the combat gear, because this is a shooting competition, not an exercise. They're issuing bare minimum equipment for the competition although the troops on LoC look well equipped.

Ya even modified Ak 47 / AKM that is used by Indian arny is better than INSAS. But SAF carbine 2 a 1 is ok.
